It's always a good time at CQLZ.
Be warned that the wait is long, usually 2-3 hours Friday-Sunday, esp at dinner, so you should just come out down your name and then explore Flushing. The larger the group, the longer the expected wait (eg if more than 6, they only have 3 tables that size, so it takes a while). Beautiful interior reminiscent of an old Chinese village. The broth here is delicious. If you like spicy, the hot broth got you covered with however hot you want it. If you don't like spicy, the tomato broth and the mushroom broth are both solid, with the mushroom broth being more delicate. The meat and vegetables are all pretty fresh, and you should probably get 3-5 things per person depending on how hungry you are. The sauce is make as you want, and they have some recs for combinations at the bottom of the menu if you get overwhelmed with the options. Definitely worth a try. This is our go to hot pot spot.
Be the first to ReplyFavorite hotpot place in NYC, hands down.
Super authentic chongqing flavors aka super spicy. Their ingredients are fresh and unique. Some of my favorites were the black tripe, homemade shrimp paste, taro balls. Their service is also great, severs are always checking up and refilling our soup base. We arrived around 4:30/5PM on a Friday evening, knowing it gets extremely crowded and they don't take reservations, only waitlist which didn't seem to work for us.

Chongqing Lao Zao brings the vibrant flavors of Sichuan cuisine to the heart of Flushing, NY, offering a tantalizing taste of authentic Chinese hotpot. Nestled amidst the bustling streets of this diverse neighborhood, this spot captures the essence of Chongqing's cuisine. A particular highlight of this place is the interior, really really scenic. We went with a big group of friends and it they accommodated about 8 of us with no issue.

I've been dying to try this place for a while now and I'm so glad I had the chance to. My friends and I came here and it was about a 45 mi wait during peak time. The interior ambiance is filled with charming knick-knacks and intricate details that perfectly complement the dining experience. From bibs for diners to bags for coats, they've thought of everything to ensure comfort. While they offer a sauce bar, the flavor of the soup was already so incredible that it didn't need any enhancement. Be warned, though, the soup packs a serious punch with its abundance of chilis.. even if you order mild. Honestly, everything was so good. I will def come back again!

If you're looking for a different kind of experience of hotpot I definitely recommend ChongQing! I do recommend coming here before 7pm; or else you'll be waiting for 1+ hours. I came here at 6pm and was seated right away, a couple of times I've gotten here it was after 6pm, and the wait is long so definitely come before then to secure a table! ChongQing offers a different variety of broth and food to go in your hotpot. I got the tomato and spicy broth, the spicy broth definitely has a hit of spice which you can ask which level you want it. They have different cuts of meats and the quality of the meat were amazing. There is two floors in the restaurant, great for a party of 4 so you can try different things in the menu! The service was top-notch, making the overall dining experience enjoyable. The seats weren't that comfortable, but the aesthetics were worth it. Will definitely be back again!

Visited this Chinese hotpot place and despite the long line, the experience was worth the wait. The food was fantastic, with magical soup bases that added an extra layer of flavor. The service was top-notch, making the overall dining experience enjoyable. The seats weren't that comfortable, but the aesthetics were worth it. WARNING THOUGH! The MILD spicy soup base was almost too spicy even for me, and I consider myself an above average spice lover.

LOVED the interior of this place! We had to wait ~30 minutes but we just walked around and got boba in the area to pass the time. We did a split broth with the lowest level for spice which was still a little spicy for me - which is usually very rare for me. Standard ingredients and adds on. Service was a little slow although it might have been where we were seated that caused this. Still a great place and worth the visit for the whole experience !
Be the first to ReplyI think it's even better than the hotpot I've had in China.
Even though it's very spicy, I'm enjoying it a lot. The fact that there's always a long queue here indicates how popular the restaurant is.
Be the first to ReplyThis was the highlight of the trip to Flushing.
The interior has all the knic nacs and details that are befitting of such a place. They have bibs for people and bags for coats. They have a sauce bar, but the flavor of the soup was already amazing. There was a ridiculous amount of chilis in the soup. Yes, it was spicy. Did we order the spicy? I forgot. I did use a ton of tissue paper (which they had a stack in the table) because I was sweating profusely! The milk beef was tender and delicious. I highly recommend that choice. Overall, great experience and food. It was tough to get a table. They had an app that tracked your table and time. But still highly popular making it difficult to just sit down. Would I come here again? Yeeeees!

Take this review with a grain of salt because this was our first time ever to a hot pot restaurant. I'm half Chinese but this was never something we did growing up. We enjoyed the food and the overall experience immensely and hope to be back soon to try some more options, and hopefully with more people. We walked in after parking down the street and they seated us right away despite it being 12:30 on a busy Saturday. It was cold and windy outside and walking in here was so heavenly- the ambience is warm and relaxing and the smell of the hot pot was incredible. We sat at a tatami table which didn't seem like a big deal when they asked if we wanted to sit there or at a regular table - but after sitting there through this meal I would caution against it unless you're keeping up with your mobility exercises. Both of us had one leg fall asleep from sitting cross legged for so long, and after awhile my knees were getting a little tired of being stuck in that position. It was possible to extend my legs since it was only the two of us at a table for 4, but I would recommend sitting at a regular table. Since this was our first foray into this type of food we really had no idea what to get. Our server was fantastic! She walked us through it and helped us select items we would enjoy. She also wisely steered us away from getting the medium spicy broth and had us get the mild and holy heck I'm glad she did! Again I'm half Chinese and grew up eating spicy home cooked Chinese food but this was plenty hot for me. My sinuses were completely cleared out by the end of the meal. Maybe that was TMI for a food review, but if you're not used to eating very spicy food be forewarned- this is HOT. I don't remember everything we ordered - my favorite meats were the beef meatballs and the shredded beef with cilantro. We made a bunch of dipping sauces which was a little overwhelming at first not knowing what we needed but once I got going it was just like having all your kitchen go tos in one spot. Like others I was a little surprised at the bill but it was a huge meal and everything seemed to be made from high quality and fresh ingredients.
Be the first to Reply第N次众人口中的某某餐天花板踩雷后,老灶成为了最后一家"天花板". 。。

Be prepared for a wait! I've heard about this place for years but it's still popular with long wait times, especially on the weekend. Overall, although this place was good -- nothing made it stand out compared to the rest of the competition. I don't get the hype. Maybe it's the decor that transports you to another place, but the food itself was nothing to write home about. I had high expectations for the milky beef but it literally just tasted like meat lol The sauce bar needs an upgrade in basic ingredients (ie: missing sriracha, sesame seeds, etc). It's good but there is really nothing special about this place.

Very cool ambiance inside with an old village style of decor. Usually this place is really busy because it's popular, so come prepared to wait or put your name down for a table to have hotpot. It's a la carte with a big selection and the ingredients all seemed very fresh and were delicious when cooked in the spicy broth.

Not bad if you live in Flushing but simply not worth it if one lives in Manhattan. No need to travel 1+ hours to get here when there's plenty of good HP places in the city.

The venting system is not very good. Food is actually good. Almost no free food (compared to Haidilao).

Food was very good I loveeeee milky beef and intestines a lot. We had 9 blocks medium spicy mala, it was too spicy for us so, next time we might need to order mild. The waiting time was around 1-1.5 hour so make sure to go there early and put your name on the waitlist before walking around

Fire. Just fire. You know that guy in spongebob who crawled around looking for good food, service and atmosphere (ambiance). He shouldve gone here before trying those darn pretty patties.

I loved everything about this place from the moment I stepped thru their doors. I was impressed by everything. The decor was so cute and creative! I'd say it was definitely worth our long trek from Downtown Manhattan. Service was good, ingredients fresh...making for a delicious meal! The decor takes you back in time and feels like you're eating in a old restaurant back in the day.Very nice extras- aprons to protect your clothing from splashes, bags for your jackets soon as you're sat at table, even saw elastics hair ties for the ladies at the counter on check-in.
Be the first to Replymy favorite hot pot spot!!! It is honestly worth the wait.
Usually the wait time is 1-2 hours. I come here all the time whenever i'm craving hot pot. The mushroom broth is my favorite. They have a lot of vegetables, mushrooms, meat, and seafood to choose from. The decor and aesthetic is really nice too. The price is not too expensive for its quality. It's fair. Definitely come try it out.

You will not be able to resist the smell of this place, the moment you open the doors, you'll be flooded with the various spices and fragrant foods. My friend and I came on a Saturday at 1pm for lunch. Our wait time was only around 45 minutes, which wasn't too bad. Once they notified us that they would have a table ready, they gave us a clipboard with the menu of items we could order. I recommend you and your group take the time to review these items before getting your table, as it will save you some time. We ordered more than 4 dishes per person and got the hot pot with the Spicy Beef Tallow Pot - Medium spice. For our sides, we order the Tai Chi Beef (which is really spicy - order if you really enjoy spicy food, otherwise, it will burn haha), shrimp paste, which was really fresh and tender and doesn't taste frozen, and the usual vegetables such as enoki mushrooms, cabbage, and etc. Overall, it was a great experience, would definitely recommend this place as a nicer night out as the food was pretty costly for the amount served!
Be the first to ReplyWhat an absolute staple of a hot pot place in Flushings.
I can understand why there are hour waits for this place. The second you walk in, you can smell the hotpot flavors and scents. They don't take reservation so you have to go put ur name in advance to be on the waitlist m. My party of 4 showed up Saturday at 5:21pm and it was an about 3 hour wait (but let me emphasize worth it).On food alone, this place is a perfect 5/5. Some highlights of the meal for me were the- peanut milk: oh my god it's like a peanut hot chocolate. It's nutty and the pitcher of it was absolutely stunning. I wish more places offered it.- Mala quail egg: the spice rub on this is so good. The quail eggs are cooked well and are flavorful. Also love that they're brown because it's like mini tea eggs. The spice isn't too spicy.-Milky beef: I swear this has to be a signature item of them. They bring out beef and than poor milk on it m to tenderize it. It gives the meat a much more complex texture and depth to it.- shrimp paste: they roll it into little balls for you and put it in. It was absolutely stellarThe only reason it's a 4 was because of service. We never received aprons like every other table and because our table was in a corner with little space, we ended up getting all our foods at different times (most of the time there's an extra little shelf next to the table so they can put extra foods). They ended up bringing all our meat first and vegetables at the end which was a llittle frustrating. However this place is amazing and I would definitely come back!
