China Chilcano Washington Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing dinner and fantastic celebration !
This restaurant , food and staff are amazing . Well located in Washington DC is a must visit for its visitors!. I requested a good seating table and it was ready even before my arrival with my guests. Our server did her best to please us and we enjoyed very much everything, but especially the Fish . It was something from another planet . We ordered 3 of them ( Roasted Doradas on the banana’s leaf) ohhhh my gosh , delicious !. Our overall experience was terrific and we thank each of its Staff involved 👏👏👏🙂❤️. We will come back again , for sure!.
So sad.
Had a very ordinary meal. We ordered the Chef’s Menu. It’s a shame that Andre’s restaurants are dead.Even Oyamel was disappointing when we visited last year. Basic food. Very basic. Poor service. Nothing special about a night out. No heart like we used to have in the Bethesda Jaleo! So sad.

This was my first José Andrés restaurant I went to, and I have to say it was a cool concept, although I didn't love all the dishes we had. The restaurant is very open and decorated well. We ordered: Shishito Peppers - 5/5. Seasoned so well and nicely grilled. Causa California - 3/5. Honestly tasted like nothing. Reminded me of baby food when it came to consistency. Papas a la Huancaína - 2/5. Not my favorite -- sauce was a little bland. Tam Tam - 5/5. My favorite dish. This was so good and the noodles were cooked perfectly!
Stopped here for lunch on a Friday and it was mostly empty.
The food was excellent, especially the classic ceviche! IMHO, most of the Jose Andres restaurants are just too precious and the waitstaff act like you should be grateful to be there -- but this place was different. The server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, and overall it seemed less chaotic. It's an attractive dining room with good natural light. Finding parking during the day is almost impossible unless you want to pay $25+ at a garage a few blocks away. The parking that the restaurant recommended was full -- the attendant said they're always full -- and forget about finding a meter on the street. Plan ahead.

We stopped in for a quick bite before an event and had a great experience. It was a busy Saturday night but we were able to snag seats at the ceviche bar. Atmosphere: busy, vibrant Service: very good and very attentive. We let her know is we were headed to another event and Sri Ms and food came out promptly. 10/10 Food: we split the Aeropuerto. It was a fried rice dish with tons of veggies, eggs and crispy potatoes on top. You don't even miss the meat with this dish. 10/10 I've been here once before for happy hour but will be back for lunch or dinner!
Excellent service and food.
We loved every dish we tried - about half the menu. So much fun to try so many new flavor combinations.
Two of us enjoyed lunch at China Chilcano today.
It was pouring rain on a weekday, and this place looked warm and inviting. I had the set lunch for $28 which consisted of siu mai pollo, tallarin saltado de verduras (chow mein noodles), and suspiro limana (sweetened condensed milk custard topped with soft and crispy meringue and a passion fruit ice. My cousin ordered the shrimp donburi. The prices were extremely reasonable for the tastiness that was delivered to our table. The service was very good. Our waiter, Franklin, patiently answered all our questions and all his recommendations worked out great. The space is very cute and cheerfully decorated. The Chinese, Japanese and Peruvian flavors blend wonderfully. I encourage people to learn more about the history of how these elements found harmony with each other. It took a long time.

Top notch service, really great wait staff and nice
Top notch service, really great wait staff and nice ambience unfortunately couldn't make up for truly disappointing food. Every dish missed the mark, too salty, too fried, questionable freshness of ingredients. Just a real bummer when you're spending the money to expect a great meal.
Holy crap.
Amazing. Every dish was delicious and came out hot. Favorites were the steam buns with the pork belly, the fried rice, and the sample of 12 dim sum. Service was slow at first but took off and did not disappoint. Really cool spot for dinner. No dress code. Kids must be adventurous.

Maybe because I grew up in Peru I am extra picky and gave only 4 stars. I think the essence was captured by the restaurant menu. The ambiance is great and lively. But the plate execution is just OK. I have been there twice and both times I felt like the quality of the dishes is lower than the price tag. Then again, there aren't many Peruvian themed restaurants in the DC metro I would give 5 stars to. The closest thing is Barra Brava in Rockville where you get quality.
Best Restaurant Ever
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. It has been over 2 weeks and I still think about how good this food was. It is very creative mixing Asian style with Peruvian food. And it tastes absolutely amazing.
A Dining Experiment of Success
I have for a long time been impressed by Jose Andres and his philanthropy. While on our visit to DC, our daughter made reservations at one of his restaurants. It is an amazing diverse menu that one does not know where to begin to start ordering. The blending of Peruvian, Chinese, and Japanese is unique. Our table did one of the Chef’s Tasting Menus. Absolutely everything was good. Such an amazing blend of flavors. I think I lost count of tastings after 10 rounds of food. It was just endless amounts of good food appearing. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere is as interesting as the food.
Bright, lively restaurant.
We had lunch here on a Thursday without reservations. Service was good. Very attentive. Very familiar with the menu for explanations. Food was tasty. I really enjoyed the Lomo Saltado. Very good. I also loved the Kam Lu Wantan. My husband enjoyed his Tuna Ceviche and Salmon Donburi. He is very sensitive to cilantro and the server did not hesitate to bring him a new one when his came with it. The Tallarin Zhen Fe was very different but good. Drinks were also very good. The server was very patient in explaining the offerings. Would definitely recommend.

Ambiance is great, I thought certain plates were a little larger like the shrimp lomo saltado nothing crazy as well as the dim sum, the yucca was great and the suspiro limeño dessert was the most amazing the dessert perfect combination of sweet and tarter
Different and wonderful
Wonderful flavors. Unique. Good service. Not the most comfortable seating. Big and unfamiliar menu...wish I could go back frequently
Thank you Manager CJ !!!!
Excellent restaurant with great service and great food. We enjoyed the pork buns as well as the five spice old-fashioned. Will be back again.
Affordable fixed lunch menu
Our first day in DC, came here for the fixed price menu at lunch. It wasn't very busy so service was very fast. For $28, you get 3 courses. We started with the Siu Mai Pollo and Papas a la Huancaina (this was a bit bland). Main: Aji de Gallina and Salmon Donburi. The salmon is meant to be raw but we asked that they cook it. The best part was the dessert: Suspiro Limena and Ponderaciones de Kiwicha. The latter was served with amazing banana ice cream and chocolate cream.
Excellent
Great food, the portions are large and the food is priced well. I find some of the other comments bizarre. If you go, download the InKind app to save $25 off $75 or pre-buy InKind cash to save money. We ordered three dishes+ dessert, and we left with enough food for another meal. My only quibble is the food came out too fast and I felt rushed.
Pretty marginal tasting experience
Had the Peruvian tasting experience. Based on the offerings, will probably never have Peruvian food again. Also did the cocktail pairing. Of the four cocktails, two were ones we had while we were waiting at the bar. The final straw was the dessert offerings. One looked like a small child made the dessert. The Camouflage green color was disturbing. Disappointed. Love the work Chef Andre is most famous for. Will probably not go back based on our experience.

Pretty crazy, but cracking down will cost them a lot to maintain. They probably will lose the fight.

In my experience they will typically restore your reservation if you say it was an error.
