The experience begins with trying to find this off-the-beaten-path place. Street parking is easy, but your GPS may not be able to help you navigate the last few hundred feet down an alley. This is all part of the charm. Because the menu is so limited, everything the chef prepares is extraordinary. The menu for the day is announced at 11 a.m. in FB, which gives a hose with allergies or dietary restrictions an opportunity to ask for compassionate late cancellation without penalty. It’s a memorable experience and a highlight of a visit to Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyJust incredible.
Everything about our experience was great. The service was wonderful. Our server and the hostess were kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambience is cozy and great for couples. Not a whole lot of room downstairs for much bigger parties - there’s an upstairs I didn’t see, and an outdoor patio for larger parties. The food was AMAZING. I was looking forward to the menu but not super excited about specifics (for instance, spaghetti was one of the dinner options and not necessarily my first choice), but when I tasted the food it didn’t matter. We ordered the whole menu, which is only 6 items. Everything was incredible, appetizer to desert to even the after dinner espresso. Somehow they made a tomato salad taste eyerollingly good. One of the best meals I’ve had in Charleston. Not cheap, but I’ll pay for a dinner like that.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious but treated rudely.
This tiny, hidden spot was unexpectedly lovely, though very full of itself. The host was incredibly rude because we were 8-minutes late, even though we'd called ahead to let them know. (Finding parking nearby is near to impossible, so give yourself extra time.) Our server was good but also pretentious, as though we were lucky to be there at all. There are only 2 choices on the menu and we loved everything we ordered, but spent too much time swatting away flies on the patio. Not their fault, but annoying all the same. Delicious food, very cool atmosphere, but the staff needs to treat their customers like welcomed guests.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice and original place.
Very nice out of the way place. We have eaten there several times. We are fine with the limited menu. Got the trout that was stuffed with salty ham. The ham gave it the flavor it was served over greens and potatoes the potato’s looked like an afterthought and would have been better left off. It was 46$ a bit pricey but everything is high today. My wife had agnolotti and loved it. Tasty pasta and stuffing.

I’d love to see a 4.5 rating choice for my reviews because a 4 is underrating and I am trying to save my 5. I’d say the lower rating here are the limited menu selections and the tight but charming seating. I was thrilled with my salad and bouillabaisse but Edward only had that and the duck to chose from and he’s not that fond of duck. But what they have is what you get. Edward was very pleased with the appetizer of tuna served rare and the bites I had were delicious. I would say definitely try this charming restaurant but think if it as a special eating experience, not one where you would go early or linger. We started out with drinks at Janny and Lee’s house in Ion, then headed downtown. (There is a fun community table outside but anywhere that puts out bug spray for customers use is a no go for me as I would be the main course for the mosquitos!)

Charming experience from start to finish. The handwritten menu (in french) only features two entrees subject to seasonal availability. Great wine list with many french wines available by the glass.

Excellent food and service. Served by Randall at the bar. Knowledge about wine and very personable. Limited seating and limited menu which changes every night. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyNot for everyone, perfect for me
On our annual return from Florida to New York we often stop in Charleston and dine with friends who live there. Chez Nous had been my choice having heard great reviews from acquaintances in the hospitality industry. I booked well in advance then invited a couple with long history in the Charleston area. They accepted but admitted it wasn’t their first choice, primarily because the menu offers limited choices. The nightly offering is narrow including 2 starters, 2 entrees and 2 desserts, that is the draw and for me Chez Nous came though. Admittedly the second floor dining room wouldn’t be my choice as it’s a little like a back hallway, but the food and service trumped cramped quarters. We started with an asparagus appetizer that sang with the season, my fluke entree with fondant potatoes and a light delicious veal broth was superb and for dessert my wife and I spilt a pecan tart. In the end our menu choices on this rainy night hit high notes m, with our guests too. The limited menu guarantees freshness, seasonal dishes and carefully gathered choices to star in the center of the plate. Having observed the restaurants social media I know the menu shifts seasonally, nightly, drastically and gracefully. Bravo, go ahead a do Chez Nous.
Be the first to ReplyFriday Lunch at the Bar.
It was a truly great lunch. The best lunch I’ve had since Paris last June. Bright and flavorful small local asparagus with a bit of ham and pepper sauce. It came briskly and surely and so did the Black Bass with roasted onions and greens. The fish is a star in this and came hot and just right. The bread was very personal and generous. All in a very busy small dining room and terrace with only a tiny bar. It was all well done and fair for the price. The espresso service was also my personal favorite. Worth the Trip without doubt.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Dinner in Charleston!
This is such a romantic and quaint spot for a dinner date! From the delicious food to the welcoming service to the insanely cute space, this will be an experience to remember! They hand write the menu each day, with a choice of two appetizers, entrees, and desserts. My boyfriend and I shared a fried swordfish appetizer, the fish and chicken entrees, and then a cherry custard for dessert! Highly recommend this restaurant for your next foodie adventure! Pro tip: try to snag a seat at their charming bar area!
Be the first to Replyquel dommage
For people who do not speak French, "quel dommage" means "what a pity". We had a reservation at Chez Nous tonight and our reception was not well received. We were disappointed because this was supposed to be such a special experience. My husband and I politely declined to dine there even though it was a busy weekend in Charleston with SEWE going on. As luck goes, we tried a new restaurant in town, "Southbound". Southbound has been open less than a week. It was warm, quaint, swanky, super elegant, the food was great, and the service outstanding and friendly. We would highly recommend it. I guess we should thank Chez Nous...Merci
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
Loved our meal at a sister restaurant and could not be more disappointed in the meal we had at Chez Nous. Wouldn’t make accommodations for a picky member of our group and they replaced flounder for snapper. And they barely whispered the substitution. The three hundred dollar tab for 3 shouldn’t feature flounder. Wow. Bad
Be the first to ReplyIt was fine...
This is such a charming restaurant and would be very romantic for a couple. The location in town is ok. It isn't the nicest or most well-lit area. Parking is not ideal, but doable. I wish it had a full bar, but the wine selection was nice. Our waitress helped us select wine and the recommendations were great. I knew going into it that the menu would be small. I did not have trouble finding things to eat, but my party did. We all selected our dishes and got ready for an extraordinary meal. The food was ok. It felt like it was trying too hard. It was trying to be elevated but missed the mark. We had a shrimp salad to start, and it was very good. The flavors were nice and balanced. The shrimp were fresh. You could tell that everything was a nice quality. It could have used a little salt to make it perfect, but overall, I was impressed. The main courses were the disappointing part. I had the mackerel, which I usually love. Two others in my party got the same dish. The fish was overcooked and dry. The fennel was the best part, but the dish was under salted. It was just bland. My husband had the pasta, which is made inhouse. The pasta was fine, perhaps mislabeled, but fine. It was a bit overcooked of him. The prosciutto gave it some salt, but it was bland. Would I try it again? Yes, but with caution. I would not recommend until I had a stellar meal.

We know this place is semi-iconic, so we were very excited to visit. Sat at the bar, which was nice nice it’s pretty sedate here and there was a bit on conversation at the bar. Small, ‘cozy’ space, but part of the allure. Cool little wine list—many really good by the glass options. Menu—as in known—is truncated, but diverse choices. We essentially had everything offered; all excellent to outstanding. Everyone should dine here…
Be the first to ReplyLabor Day Weekend
We tried this restaurant over Labor Day and the food selection while very limited (two choices only - similar to the countryside of France...) was excellent. Everything we tried that night was fantastic. The menu is fairly priced for the quality and detail but the wine list is a bit pricy but we shared a very nice bottle.
Be the first to ReplyTiny Venue/Menu – Big Experience
I do mean “tiny venue” – very few interior tables supplemented by garden seating, BUT the menu is fantastic. The chef decides on the menu based on local ingredients and his mood – so you get what the chef likes – and the selections are GREAT. This is close to the dining experience in small Parisian restaurants, the chef shops in the morning and that defines the evening menu. Service was great. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyAll about a great experience!
We had a fantastic experience. The concept of 2 starters, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts works so well. What sounded like simple food was actually complex and delicious creations. We split each course and the two options even went well together for each course. We asked our server to pair wines for us and the pairings were interesting, spot on, and delicious. It’s a lovely environment in a classic old Charleston house. We ate upstairs but would have loved the communal dining outside too.
Be the first to ReplyMeh--overpriced and don't understand the fuss
Chez Nous was highly recommended by a foodie friend of ours. We were seated outdoors and immediately were attacked by gnats and chiggers on our legs and ankles. The menu is handwritten by the chef is not readable. So we had to ask our waiter to tell us what was on it. We noticed all of the other patrons had to do the same. Waste of valuable time for the patrons and waiter. We ordered the blanched green bean salad as a starter. It was really just a bowl of fresh cold beans with salt on them for...$19! The beans probably cost less than $2.00. We also ordered the breaded swordfish as a starter. It was just o.k. Dry, really could have used a dipping sauce. Again, overpriced I ordered to Spaghetti ($29!) and it was not even close (in quality or quantity) to our local pizza place's entrée that sells for $11. My wife ordered the chicken thighs. She got 2 small pieces and a very small bowl of scalloped potatoes. The chicken was very dense and dry. The scalloped potatoes were decent, but took all of 4 bites to finish. The wine list is overpriced and unimpressive. The beer list consists of 3 beers. I had a couple of very average beers for $10 a piece. The waiter had been assigned was too many tables and, as a result, service was compromised. We finally caught his attention and asked for the check. As we were leaving we laughed as he was explaining the menu once again to another couple that couldn't understand one word of the scribble on the menu.

Wonderful dining experience and excellent service. Menu changes everyday and hand written. A must if in Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyFrench kitchen in Charleston
First time in Charleston this was one place that I wanted to visit as I have been a fan of the chef and have followed her on social media for years. The experience was good. Beautifully set establishment cozy and great for intimate fine dining. We were seated at a bar. The menu that changes daily was creative and wonderful take on flavors and unique menu. Can’t wait to visit again.

This wonderful restaurant was a little hard to find but worth the visit. The menu is limited but this ensures quality in my book. My only criticism was the smell of citronella candles while we ate outside. But I think that was to be expected. I just don’t like the smell.

An unbelievable culinary experience tucked away in a Charleston neighborhood. Our server was top notch and gave us the history of the building and explained the menu to us (and let us ask questions! it was amazing because we had questions and they were very patient and kind in their answers). Then the food, oh the food! Amazing is a start to describe it, but it was one of the best meals I've ever had. If I ever find myself back in Charleston for any reason, the #1 thing I will attempt to do is dine here again.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food with amazing staff in an intimate environment
We were there for lunch, 4 of us. It was too cold and wet to sit outside the day we were there, so we were seated upstairs, where there was room for just 5 parties, and it was very intimate; we had conversations with each of our neighbors. The menu is short; it's set up to be a 3 course meal with two offerings for each course, but you can just order one item from any course. And the menu changes every day. Two of us ordered the "appetizer" course as our main course; one had a salad and I had crepes with mushrooms - YUM! One person had the salad and fish stew and the other had just the fish stew. Everyone thought their selection(s) was excellent. We ordered one each of the desserts which we all shared. Lemon torte and a berry meringue, both yummy. Two people ordered glasses of wine; one of the wines was not good, and they graciously replaced it with a different wine of his choice. We also had cappuccinos with dessert, also excellent. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and helpful about the menu as well as about the extensive wine list. This was a once-in-a-long-while meal, exceptional in every way. It WAS expensive, but we all felt it was well worth it.
Be the first to ReplyGood....
We ordered spring onion fritter appetizers, smoke trout salad, and fish in parchment, with a bottle of wine.
Fish in parchment and smoked trout salad were excellent, fish was flavorful and extremely well seasoned. FRitters were a solid disappointment. Too much for an appetizer and no real flavor just fried dough.
Must Visit French Restaurant in Charleston, SC
This is my second time in this amazing gem restaurant in downtown Charleston, SC.
This quaint little place is hidden and tucked in in a small historic house so parking a bit tricky.
The ambience of the place just so lovely and very warm.
We can dine in or sit outside in the patio and even its small but the outside wall was covered with green ivy and hanging strings light so it looks very romantic.
Now for the food, they have small menu selections and great wines and cocktails options.
The first time I came to eat there, my palate was spoiled by the amazing steak dish that melt in your mouth like butter and I had tiramisu as well and it didn’t disappoint me at all!
The second time was for lunch date with my husband and he had the fish dish and he loved it!
Mine was ham dish that rolled in some sort of veggies which I am failed to remember it and was top with this awesome cheese.
It is kinda hard to get reservations for dinner so my suggestion is to try lunch options and make reservations.
I will definitely coming back to rat here again.
Ps: our waiters both time were nice and very knowledgeable of the menu as well.
