Excellent food! We are particularly fond of their Dan Dan noodles, which are fragrant, spicy, satisfying, and affordable! If you love the numbing spice (má là) feel of Szechuan cuisine, this place hits the spot!

I only first came to Chengdu Taste for Dan Dan Mian and had a strong first impression. That was my personal gateway to mala paradise. I am now a hopeless addict to the mapo tofu with extra peppercorn powder sprinkled on top, the Phoenix claws in their sweet-savory chili oil base, those lustrous green beans stir fried with a little pork and bright red chili, and the hardy toothpick lamb that reheats perfectly a day or two later. It is very difficult to eat it all in one serving, even with another person. Sometimes I fly too close to the sun/numbing Nirvana. The chili and peppercorn elements work together to make my stomach think I've had more than I think.Every time my partner and I come in to chase the dragon, the staff remembers us (because we always ask for this so they get it out of the way now LOL) and gives us a little cup thing of extra peppercorn powder before anything else. It's great! And we ALWAYS put it to use.Yelp is prompting me to describe the Ambiance, which I have never given a fuck about. I guess adding the wall of masks as a Pokéstop is on my to-do list. Don't come here and get all ignorant because you finally understand what it feels like to receive a Listerine enema. I personally think my life is made better for that battery acid tingling. It keeps me humble. Stay away and stop shitting up the rating with your "waahh I couldn't handle the heat" complaints. I don't know how some of you respect yourselves if you are showing your ass like this. THE FIRE IS IN THE NAME if you have any initiative to research what you eat. I miss the pre-pandemic days where my party could end up awkwardly sharing the round tables with strangers. But it wasn't that awkward, because both parties need to be open to the idea first. We're all there to enjoy the food.
Be the first to ReplyI've been here regularly since 2015.
The food quality pre-pandemic was a little inconsistent, probably because the head chef had to split his time between multiple locations. I noticed that the food quality was much more consistently good after the other locations shut down.As for the food...The portions sizes overall are quite generous. The mapo tofu is fantastic with the perfect amount of ma and la. I consider it the gold standard for mapo tofu in the LA area. The fish fragrance eggplant (idk what the official English name is. There's no fish in the dish at all and it certainly doesn't smell like fish...) is always a winner as well with the perfect combination of savory, sweet, and a little spicy. We also often order dishes like the green boiled fish (oddly refreshing and spicy!), the toothpick lamb (the pieces with both lean and fat are the best!), twice-cooked pork (savory and hearty), and chili chicken (crunchy and spicy). Overall a solid Sichuan place and my benchmark for other Sichuan restaurants in the area.Oh, and they offer unlimited refills on the rice, unlike Xiang La Hui. Granted, the rice is sometimes a little mushy. Then again, it's really just a delivery vehicle for their delicious mapo tofu and fish fragrance eggplant.

Spice warning: it's spicy! This was my first time trying Chengdu and I will definitely be coming back for seconds!I ordered the:Cucumber saladChengdu style fried riceToothpick lambKing pao chickenSautéed eggplant with spicy garlic sauce*Again, almost every dish is super spicy*The cucumber salad was an awesome dish to start. It was refreshing and the cukes were super crunchy. It was also a really good but to have once the spice from the other dishes start to kick in. I loved the texture of the fried rice. It was really soft and fluffy - not a typical friend rice. There wasn't a ton of soy sauce so it was great to pair with the other dishes. The toothpick lamb is definitely worth trying. It was a lot of fun to eat and definitely the most unique dish. Their king pao chicken comes with a LOT of spice and peanuts. I would avoid this dish if you can't take the heat. My favorite dish had to be the eggplant. It came piping hot and the garlic sauce was perfect. The spice was a nice experience. It wasn't too hot to kill your pallet - instead it really enhanced the dishes. The overall vibe of the restraint felt like you're in your grandma's house. The decor is simple and very brightly lit. One thing to note is they don't serve any alcohol, but provide hot tea for free for dine in guests.

My Chinese wife and I come as often as we can and have introduced others who all love the food here. Gold ain't wrong!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is beyond delicious.
Highly recommend, especially if you're going with a group. The portions are shareable and service is impeccable. Will definitely be going back!

As you can see from their setting and white table cloth, this is not your regular cheap and cheerful chinese food place and that is okay. This is the place to frequent if you want tasty chinese food.Either they are under new management or no one has updated the yelp page yet, but the pricing on yelp does not reflect the actual price at all. So no, you can't find toothpick lamb under $20 here.I've tried two dishes and they are amazing. So far the dishes is not as spicy as most places in the neighborhood, but I definitely will work my way up through their entire menu. The place doesn't seem to be crowded around lunch hour during my visit, but people continuously coming to take pickup orders. And they cook really fast, so don't worry having to wait for a long time.
Be the first to ReplyI love Szechuan food and so decided to try out this place.
My dad can't eat too spicy and the food here wasn't too spicy for him. It has great Szechuan flavor while not being too spicy. We got a fish soup dish, green beans, and the toothpick lamb. Price was reasonable and seems to be slightly cheaper than Sichuan Impression. Food was good. Service was fine. They were busy but the food came out fairly quick. This was just what we wanted for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyThe boiled fish w pepper is so good.
Portions are huge. Order the shredded potato; you will not be sorry .
Be the first to Replythis place is the best for many reasons.
food is great. service is authentic. just wish it wasn't always so busy. get the white fish soup. it smacks.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time to finally eat here.
Tried coming months ago and found they were closed due to front window broken so we waited to try again. This time we got here before 5. Parked right in front and no wait. No physical menus, just scanned a qr code for menu and to order. We chose thin sliced pork w sliced bell peppers and scallions (pictured originally w green beans) in a slightly spicy sauce. So tasty. The next dish we got was innocuous, fish boiled in spicy soup. The description didn't come close to the complex soup that had jalapeños and szechwan pepper corns as well as bean sprouts. And then besides white rice we got the spicy dan dan noodles. Perfect seasoning with some spicy heat. Overall all our dishes were outstanding and we will come back to try more items on the menu!

One of those meals where everyone at the table goes silent because the food is so good. The spice is addicting and numbing but they keep you hydrated with icy water. Confused by the less than 5 star overall rating but maybe some people just can't handle the heat!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Sichuan food period! Chengdu fried rice is a must try.
Would be great if they could add some Ma la dishes.

Absolutely fantastic and authentic! The taste is exactly like what I had in China and the ingredients taste very fresh. The portions are also extremely generous and we had plenty of leftovers even though we ate until we were stuffed. We had a limited amount of time in LA and definitely were glad that we picked Chengdu Taste as one of the restaurants during our visit.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a crown jewel of the SGV.
I have spent some time in Chengdu and whenever I get a craving for Sichuan food and I come here it always scratches that itch. I feel like I'm transported back to Chengdu and usually gets me looking at plane tickets.
Be the first to ReplyWhy TF does this place only have 3 stars.
Seriously!! Even with all the new Szechuan places in the SGV this legendary establishment still stands out as one of the best.
Be the first to ReplyAmazingly spicy and tasty.
Just as good as the one in Vegas. Many of the dishes are also numbing, due to the Chinese peppercorn and it's oil. So many favorite dishes, especially the fish (be sure to pick live fish). Super authentic . The most recent fish had numerous scales, hopefully they pay more attention. Skip the Dan Dan noodles here and go to Chong Qing Special Noodles for the best in the area

Authentic Sichuan/Chengdu food! Dishes are quite spicy but that's why they taste so good. The house special noodles were magical.
Be the first to ReplySo I haven't really had too much experience with Sichuan
So I haven't really had too much experience with Sichuan cuisine until this year, but I've been trying to branch out and this place was recommended to me, and let me just say WOW. Truly amazing. I was blown away, Chengdu Taste is really something special. The "mouth numbing" spices are really evident and something I hadn't ever experienced before. I can't wait to go back!

I'm so happy they finally reopened this restaurant because it was shut down for a while and I didn't know if it was gonna be temporary or permanent. I chose to dine in and now to order you gonna scan the code they have at the table and place your order. Then when the food is ready the server will bring it out to you. I ordered a variety of dishes some old and trying a new one. My fave is the fish with tofu in hot sauce. The flavors is spicy and with all that silky soft textures of fish and tofu goes so perfectly. The pork belly with peppers was tasty. It's more of a sweet dish than savory. Sauteed string beans are always the best vegetable dish.Toothpick lamb was a smaller portion than the past but it also was the worst tasting dish. Usually this is a favorite of mine but today it was eh. I think the lamb was too old because the meat was tough and chewy.Service was simple. They just deliver your food and just stand at the counter waiting for customers to call them or to get the bill. Parking is on the street. Most definitely coming back to this restaurant that Jonathan Gold absolutely adored.
Be the first to ReplyThe best spicy Chinese restaurant in LA.
We had four dishes today, extremely delicious. Fermented bean fish is the best the cold dish in the picture is our family's favor. Will visit again.
Be the first to ReplyMy all-time favorite Sichuan restaurant in Los Angeles.
So glad they're open again. That popcorn chicken and boiled fish in green pepper sauce always hits.
