Che Fico San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year

My husband picked this restaurant as a surprise for my birthday - and I loved it! Everything was amazing - the food, service and ambiance. We had focaccia (delicious, we ordered more) & the caesar salad (the best I've ever had) & octopus & short rib pasta (so good). The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable. We definitely plan to go again - and are committed to trying more on the menu. And since we live on the Peninsula, we'll also probably try the Menlo Park location, too!
Made a reservation weeks ago.
Came to the restaurant only to be seated in the corner overlooking the street. Asked to switch seats, hostess was unexpectedly rude. Asked us to stand near the bar area for a half hour while I watched similar size parties get seated. Saw a burnt pizza delivered to another table. The facial expression of the lady after she had the first bite gave me a good laugh.
Trendy dining with creative menu and inflated prices.
We celebrated my husband's birthday here after a long hiatus (6 years)! The cocktails are $20, a regular margarita pizza is $32, a salad is $25, a pasta with no protein is $34! The food ranged from good to fair, nothing great. Decor is open and pleasant, and the noise level is acceptable. With these prices, we won't be back unless we win the lottery!
Pricey, definitely pricey, but always a delicious man.
Well above the average city fare. Great for dates, special occasions. Haven't had a dish I didn't enjoy here.

TLDR: I'd highly recommend the Polpo for either an app or entree and the Agnolotti (braised short rib pasta) for a delicious, easily shareable pasta. I've also heard great things about the focaccia with whipped mascarpone (it's HUGE), and the pizza looked incredible from what I saw on other's tables. Che Fico is a lovely restaurant in Nopa with a beautiful interior and delicious food, but be prepared to pay up. Service was a bit slow, but I can see why given how popular they are. They end the night with these complimentary and delicious spice-covered orange wedges and 2 small hazelnut cookies per person to take home (or eat in the Uber like I did!) ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] Agnolotti (5/5) - They're really well known for this specific pasta. It's a plate of 14 pastas stuffed with tender short rib and drizzled with melted stracchino cheese that adds another dimension to this dish. I loved it, and this would be so easy to share among a table. 2. [MUST TRY] Polpo (5/5) - Best octopus I've ever had. Usually octopus is really rubbery and hard to chew through, but this was actually somehow really tender! The SAUCE was insane with this dish, they give a generous amount of octopus, and with the added volume from the chickpeas, this could easily be an entrée and not just an app. 3. Giardiniera (5/5) - If you love pickled veggies and love vinegar, this is for you. Definitely a strong kick to start the meal. Not for everyone, but we loved it (and I don't even like vinegar that much). 4. Timorasso White Wine (5/5) - This was the closest thing to chardonnay they had on the list and it was so good. Not too dry like a lot of Italian wines, and so drinkable. Highly recommend for others who like chardonnay-type wines. 5. Agnello Arrosto (3/5) - This is the lamb loin entrée. We were told this could serve 4-5 people. We ate everything above and then basically finished this too, so I'd say it serves 1-3 people honestly. It wasn't that much lamb and was probably 75% potatoes. Don't get me wrong, the potatoes were smashed to perfection and delicious, but this dish is not worth $128. We should have gotten the chicken, which I saw pass by and which looked like it had a lot more meat for almost 1/2 the price. The lamb was good but nothing special. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * We dined at 5:30 pm on a Saturday and the place was already getting packed * There is an immediate set of stairs to get to the dining floor so just note that if this will be a problem. Not sure if they have an alternative way to get to the dining room that I didn't see * The dining area is a huge, open space with high ceilings, lots of natural light, and rustic decor. In some ways with all the decorations, books, hanging meats, and bottled foods, it feels like a Williams Sonoma or Eataly * I'd say that they definitely fit a lot of people into the space so if it's just two of you, you might be pretty close to other duos sitting around you * Because of the big space and lots of people, it does get kind of loud in here, so you may need to speak up a bit * Still, beautiful space and I enjoyed my dining experience ------ SERVICE: * We had a lovely waitress but she didn't come by our table too often so it took some time to order a drink and we eventually had to flag someone else down * Food came out relatively quickly actually and it was well paced * The sommelier was knowledgeable and ultimately gave me a rec for the Timorasso that I tried and ended up really liking
One of the best restaurants in San Francisco liked it.

This is a fantastic spot with excellent food and incredible service. We go often. We went on New Years Eve and had an unforgettable multi course dinner-lasagne with endless layers, pasta filled with both celery root and others with mushroom, fire cooked beef..whatever they do, they do well! Charming setting on outdoor patio.
*Chef's Kiss* The vibes.
The service. The pizza. All of it. I loved all of it. I met up with a friend in the city and we decided to grab dinner at Che Fico! We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to seat us at the bar. The large window made for a perfect view of the sunset. If you have a romantic date night, there's a seat that faces directly into the window that is a must! They were doing a special wine tasting when we were there with a flight from two winemakers from Italy. While we didn't do this experience, the couple next to us did and it looked great. We opted for a glass of the chilled red which was perfect. We went family style here, which is definitely the way to go. We started with a caesar salad that was full of flavor. We shared a sausage pizza that wasn't on the menu. The bartender hyped it up for good reason. They've mastered the pizza dough here and it was absolutely delicious!! We also paired this with the cauliflower side which was cooked perfectly. Everything was absolutely amazing! On top of that, the place is decorated beautifully. So many great vibes all around.

Food mediocre (at best), certainly overpriced for what it is . Service poor--items were brought out one at a time with the explanation that it's family style but one portion for 5 people is not family style Unlikely to be back

OVERALL Che Fico is gooood! It is a beautiful, very trendy/stylish restaurant with tons of plants, beautiful light fixtures and bar, with an open kitchen and large dining room. It's the perfect spot for a date night or a friends dinner. It can get busy on the weekends though, so food is slower to come out since they get backed up in the kitchen, so I recommend ordering appetizers if you arrive hungry, but the service is still great - very friendly and accommodating. FOOD Order Recommendations: Caesar Salad Margarita Pizza Short Rib Agnolotti Orange Sorbetto Salted Caramel Gelato Drinks The drinks were solid - I got a Margarita and the Mezcal drink and I usually dislike Mezcal but this one was amazing - very light on the smoky flavor with nice sweet hints. Appetizers The Focaccia was fine, but nothing special, so I wouldn't order it again. I HIGHLY recommend the Caesar Salad. It was light and doused in Parmesan and salty anchovies that paired perfectly with the fresh, crispy lettuce. Pizzas I HIGHLY recommend the Margarita pizza. It was one of the best I have ever had (including from Italy). The crust/dough was perfect texture - crunchy but also soft and chewy. The sauce and mozzarella cheese were perfectly salty, sweet and decadent and the light dusting of Parmesan on the crust tied the whole pizza together. This is a must order item. The Diavola pizza was fine, but nothing special, so I wouldn't order it again. Pastas The Tagliatelle Ragu and Short Rib Agnolotti are both yummy, but I'd recommend the Agnolotti over the Tagliatelle as the Tagliatelle could have used more meat/Ragu and the noodles were a bit over cooked - but the flavor was still good. The Agnolotti was bursting with meaty flavor and a delicious sauce and the noodles were cooked aldente, which gave it a nice bite. The only thing is it is a little rich so it can feel like a lot of the same bite - but it is perfect to share! Desserts Lastly, the gelato...the Salted Caramel Gelato was the BEST I've ever had (including from Italy). The texture was soft, chewy, decadent, and so so creamy. The flavor was salty and sweet and so delicate yet bold. I HIGHLY recommend! The vanilla gelato wasn't as good - it was icy and not as rich in flavor. The Panna Cotta was also not great - very salty, had lots of nuts on it and was too small of a portion. The Orange Sorbetto was AMAZING - super tangy and refreshing, definitely recommend! All in all, Che Fico is super good and I definitely recommend trying!

Cute Casual Place
Casual dinner with friends: LOVED the roasted carrots and the cauliflower!! Lasagna was good. Focaccia was okay (too much olive oil). Veggies there were great! Service was okay (many servers seemed to be sniffling and coughing a lot, which was a bit concerning - cold season, maybe?). I would go back just for the vegetables.
i wanted to deviate from the usual pizza places i order
i wanted to deviate from the usual pizza places i order from so i decided to order the salsiccia. ended up being the best pizza i've had in sf
Rating: 4.
2 I have been here twice now. This most recent time, the pasta and pizza had terrific flavor and texture. The fried risotta appetizer might be my favorite. I had the scallop crudo and it lacked a lot of flavor. Felt held up by the citrus. I had some mezcal drink on their menu which was refreshing. We sat at the bar due to last minute reservations. I am uncertain of their walk in availability. Ambiance is beautiful with lots of decorations and their dry aged meats in the background! I would recommend checking it out but get a reservation at a table if you can! The bar is hard to hear the server.
Not sure why it's rated so low but I came here for an event
Not sure why it's rated so low but I came here for an event with a set menu and thought everything was delicious and well made! Started with some delicious focaccia with whipped mascarpone and olive oil that I couldn't miss! The second course consisted of roasted carrots, and Caesar salad - both which were so fresh and tasted like it came directly from the farm. We wrapped up with gnocchetti with lamb, broccoli rabe, and lemon. It was cooked pretty al dente and the flavors were really addicting with the salty and sour combos. Overall I couldn't believe I was able to each so much but the meal was worth every bite!
Our food was good not great.
Way overpriced for what we received in my opinion. They tout the menu as served family style and "shareable" but the portions seemed quite small. Service was the saving grace for us. They were awesome. It's a nice space, not too loud and very inviting.
Lovely place for dinner with a fun and trendy ambiance.
Their staff are all super attentive. The octopus starter was extremely tender but some bites were a bit fatty which was a small detractor. Their pineapple pizza is the only acceptable version of this that might be allowed in Italy. I've always been anti-pineapple pizza, it's a bit sacrilegious to put it on pizza, but their ultra thinly sliced pineapple version is acceptable in my book. Also, the thin crust pizza is pretty amazing in general. The crab pasta was a major highlight. The pasta was hot and tender, dark hand made noodles, tons of crab meat, and overall a standout on the menu. They also put chili flakes into nearly every single dish. My wife doesn't eat spicy food, so that would've been helpful before ordering three spicy dishes back to back... on her birthday. The escarole was a total pass, it had a vinegar flavoring to it that seemed to throw off the flavor and we barely finished it. We finished our meal with chocolate budino and sorbet, and the budino was totally out of this world with salty chocolate savory goodness.
3.5 stars The food is good but not good enough to justify
3.5 stars The food is good but not good enough to justify the prices. We tried: Focaccia - Very fluffy and oily bread with whipped mascarpone. I didn't love the spices on top of the bread and found it a bit too oily for me but the whipped mascarpone was very good. Octopus - Solid rendition of octopus though not sure it's worth $34. Margherita - Pretty thin bottom crust with fluffy end crust. Solid. Bigoli Nero - Pretty disappointed, the crab was nice but somehow the dish didn't super come together for me. Agnolotti dal plin - Really good, rich beefy flavor without being overwhelming. Crostata arrosto - My boyfriend liked it, but I'm not personally a big fruit tart person. Chocolate budino - This was fine but could be skipped. The thing that makes me reluctant to return is everything on the menu is a solid 10-20% more expensive than other similar Cal-Italian spots (Flour + Water, Cotogna, Delfina), not to mention the extra 10% dine-in charge.
Not what it used to be
This restaurant used to be one of the best in the city. The food quality has slipped and the prices have increased. Used to be almost impossible to get into but now its easy to get a reservation- Charging fine dining prices for good Italian food
Cool Italian Restaurant
Loved the atmosphere and would strongly recommend this place. Other than the focaccia, the food was really good. The crudo was definitely the best.
Post your prices, honestly!
The food is almost too tasty for words, but is it allowed to complain that the hospitality industry no longer post their honest prices? Congress had to pass a law to get airlines to announce the actual prices they charge, and that mandate is continually eroded with fees for luggage, seat choice, and the like. In the case of Ce Faci, there is a notice on the menu that all prices are to be increased by ten percent because of -- and here follows a list of ordinary expenses which every cafe in the world has to cover. And then they tell you explicitly that's not the gratuity. Americans put up with this because we are so used to seeing prices in stores that don't include tax. Most theories of the free market require that the buyer and seller know what it is they are getting from each other. I have no idea where to go, to protest the tendency toward secrecy in pricing. There is far more detailed accuracy in describing the contents of the bouquet garni in the cocktails, than in the price list on the menu. At this rate, paying a restaurant bill will end up like the out-of-court settlements you always read about, with all parties forbidden to discuss how much money had to be paid for sleeping with minors or poisoning waterways or - wait for it - sending tourists to the bottom of the ocean in a large PVC pipe from Home Depot.
Great albeit loud restaurant
The food was fabulous. The service was a bit slow and the restaurant was very loud. But, the food made up for it. Everything was fabulous.

How do you set a timeline for getting your bid accepted? I can’t wait till the actual time I want to go. I want to know at least eight hours ahead of time. How do you do that?
