Very bad service.
We waited about 20 min for the waitress and never showed up to take our order, so we decided to leave the restaurant.

I bumped into this place following the cherry blossom themed overhead lanterns while walking around DC. The area was very springy, and I saw Centrolina offered coffee and small bites -- exactly what my partner and I were looking for! I opted for a gluten free slice of almond olive oil cake and he went for an americano. The americano just tasted like any typical coffee, so it was pretty ...whelming? (Not overwhelming, not underwhelming LOL) however, the olive oil cake was a different story. Being the only gluten free option when I went in, I'm happy that it was super moist with a notes of lemon and topped with a bit of sweetness coming from the powdered sugar. YUM! NOTE: there was also only ONE unisex toilet, and there were 5 people ahead of me. For the amount of people in the restaurant, I would've hoped there would be at least 2 toilets? Cute bathroom nonetheless.I did feel a little unsafe since there was a homeless man that went in and started getting into people's spaces asking for money which made me feel uncomfortable. Not sure if I would go back for any reason, but thankful for the cake!

My aunt from out of town flew in and invited me out to lunch. Was kind of surprise that she would pick an italian place for lunch. My inclination with pasta is usually for dinner but she insisted that this place was really good. The place is small and cozy. And their menu differ daily upon the chef and the ingredients available. The food was really really good. Everything tasted fresh and was quite yummy. The place is a little but on the pricier side but in saying that I would consider eating here again. This would be an impressive lunch date place.

They get their ingredients from local farms and change their menu often based on what's in season. We ordered paccheri with braised octopus and charred chicken pallard. Both dishes were excellent. The braised octopus was juicy and tender and the chicken was very flavorful. The restaurant is a bit on the smaller size, which gives a cozy and intimate vibe. I have nothing to complain about services. Overall, we had a pleasant experience here and would definitely go back.

Great food--particularly the pastas and the desserts. The atmosphere is contemporary and upscale. It's clean, friendly, and has a professional vibe.Altogether delicious, if slightly on the pricier side of things. Have been several times and would absolutely go back.

OMG... first time at Centrolina last night and will definitely be back. Had the octopus app and swordfish carpaccio app... not even a huge octopus fan, but would order again.. texture and charring was superb. For entree we had the Bronzino and was the best I've had.. dessert had the pan a cotta with Caramelized bananas... soooo good! Easiest 5 stars I've ever given.

My family and I loved this restaurant! The atmosphere is very nice and the service is great. The portions sizes are perfect. I definitely recommend getting the bread for an appetizer, it was really good! Highly recommend this place.

My 1st time here, came in at 1:50 PM, 10 minutes before the kitchen closes. Got the sea bass "Bronzina." Muy deliciosa!!
Be the first to ReplyThis place puts an automatic (not optional and undisclosed)
This place puts an automatic (not optional and undisclosed) 15% charge on purchases for an "employee wellness fund" that doesn't go to employees directly. I called and asked for clarification. They also ask for tip on top of that, without indicating that you've already been charged 15%. I'm all for supporting local businesses but please do not try to trick customers into contributing to these things with opaque mandatory service fees. It leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. To make it worse, this was on the market side - not the restaurant. Pay your workers a living wage.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was good, but the evening lacked customer service.
We didn't have a whole lot of interaction with our server. Not sure what he was off doing, but we had trouble finding up and didn't come back to check on us. So we paid and left as soon as we finished. Food was good. It was a late dinner, so we didn't order a lot. BUT i was definitely starving. I must mentioned that I'm not a fan of Italian restaurants that charge for bread and olive oil. Our party of two ordered a few items to share; Melanzane (crispy eggplant), octopus, and the scallops. The crispy eggplant was so good. It's like eating chips but better! The octopus and scallops were pretty standardLocated in a great spot, but not a lot of parking in the area. Definitely stick with metro or walk.

We came for a work dinner and it is in a shopping street/area, and walking distance from the Conrad, one of my fav places to stay in DC. I ordered sea scallops, which I think could have been ordered anywhere, but I can't wait to go back to try their mushroom pasta. The service is excellent, and they have great wine options! They also have a small private dining room inside a a very comfortable lovely square bar. The appetizers, including their cheese mushroom brรปlรฉe and octopus were delicious. They have an assortment of Italian desserts. Can't wait to go back!

We started with the funghi and crispy eggplant appetizers. As a mushroom lover, I really enjoyed the funghi dish ($22) because it's got all of my favorite things: tender mushrooms on a custardy bed of parmesan in a flavorful rosemary broth. The crispy eggplant ($16) was light and crispy - chip-like - coated with a little bit of honey to add some sweetness and almonds for extra crunch and complexity. I would order both appetizers again. For my entree, I ordered the Reginette (squid ink pasta, cod, crab, uni butter, bottarga). The reginette ($34) came with three pieces (relatively small portions, but understandable for fine dining) and had good seafood flavor which paired decadently with the rich uni butter sauce. The pasta was on the chewy side though; I would've liked the pasta to be cooked a little longer. I also got to try the gnocchi (served in a white bolognese). I enjoyed the light and fluffy texture of the gnocchi ($26).There was a good pacing to the meal. While our waiter mostly let us keep to ourselves (we were seated in a private back room), we were checked on enough by other staff members to clear dishes and refill drinks. Overall, we had a nice Italian dinner in City Center, but I wouldn't go out of my way for these pasta dishes.
Be the first to ReplyPasta is fresh and delicious.
Drinks are amazing. If you want Italian, go here! It was the first but best dinner of my few days in DC.

Have been here once before and loved it but tonight was disappointing! The host took a solid few minutes to look up/acknowledge us when we came in, and our server was unfriendly and hurried (I realize he might have had a lot of tables but it's still important to spend some time with each--that's your job). One of the reasons we enjoyed it so much previously was because of the fantastic service. The folks filling our water tonight were fantastic and kind, however! Also, our food took a VERY long time to come out so that by the time we got it we were ravenous and couldn't take the time to enjoy it. Overall, disappointing experience and probably won't be back anytime soon

Centrolina doesn't disappoint! As an Italian American, I am always hesitant to get Italian food at a restaurant (no one makes sauce like my nonna!). Everything I've tried here has been great, the food is authentic (homemade pasta), and there is great thought put behind each of the menu items creating a unique and delicious eating experience. The portion sizes for some dishes are smaller than expected (when considering the price).I keep coming back here soley because of the bartender Sean! He's seriously the best, go just to see him!!

Do not miss out on this restaurant! My colleague and I went while on business in D.C. From the moment we arrived, the wait staff was kind and helpful. My waiter recommended the Neri squid ink pasta and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. We decided to skip dessert but were surprised by a plate of delectable cookies on the house. We so enjoyed our meal and highly recommend this restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyThis is a small Northern Italian restaurant and market.
Gets rave reviews on every publication's best restaurant lists. I called ahead to ask if there is valet parking. It's in a huge mixed use complex on an interior walkway, hard to find if you don't know where you're going. I was told no valet parking but they validate the garage. Wrong. There is valet for the complex and they validate for that. We parked in the garage and they did not validate for that, so parking cost us $20. They kept finding ways to get more money out of us.We ordered first; then they came for the drink order, so drink orders came after we got our appetizers. My partner and I got the tuna sashimi, which was flavorless and unseasoned. Real sashimi has wasabi and soy; this was just one paper-thin slice of tuna on a naked plate for $20. I've had divine tuna carpaccio seasoned with sesame oil and spices at other restaurants. This was disappointing and not up to the standards we would have expected at a reputable restaurant. Our friends shared the octopus and liked it. Didn't rave, but were satisfied. We all had the same pasta dish, pappardelle in a white Bolognese sauce. It was outstanding. The sauce was made with veal and chicken and moistened with cream. Each couple shared an order and we all raved about it. We could have each just had a full order alone and not gotten anything else. A bread basket costs $4 on the menu, and my partner ordered it. They brought two bowls for each couple to share one. There was a delicious focaccia with caramelized onions, breadsticks and sliced baguette. Our friend's bowl had several pieces of the focaccia and ours had only three, so we asked for a little more. We got a whole platter of it. Still we were surprised the charge for bread on the bill was $16. My partner asked why and we found they charged $4 per person. Only my partner had ordered bread but they assumed we all wanted it. We couldn't complain because we got all that extra focaccia but our companions had never ordered bread at all. My partner and I then asked to share an order of roasted duck. We each repeated that. So we each got a full order because he took it as two orders, not one to share. So once more the bill was much more than expected. I liked mine but my partner thought it was a little tough. It was medium rare and the skin was seared, so it looked perfect. They had cooked it in a way most of the fat was gone so I was very happy with it, We'd planned to share but I did manage to finish every drop. Our friend who got the scallops seemed satisfied. We complained to the manager that the man who took the phone call gave us incorrect information about the valet and parking and we were going to have to pay $20. He apologized but did nothing to remedy the situation. He took nothing off the bill, did not offer to comp desserts, nothing. So we left feeling we had been taken on the bread, the 2d duck order and the parking. We talked to the man who had given us the wrong information on the phone who admitted that was what he told us, then just said sorry. None of us will go back.

I always come here with my girl friends after shopping in the area. Sometimes drinks only, sometimes for dinner. No reservations needed if you come early like around 6. We love the atmosphere and drinks, although I feel like some food items are overpriced for what it is. Overall nice and convenience place to hangout after shopping.

C.'s City Center is low on great food, BUT if there's one place you should visit it's Centrolina. It's an Italian restaurant open for lunch and dinner with a market. After meeting a friend for a Friday lunch, here's my experience:1) Food: The restaurant sources local ingredients. (There's a list of where on the back of the menu.) My friend and I split a salad, bread basket and both had the tagliolini with a fried egg on top. Each dish was well prepared and worth the money. The bread basket comes with thin bread sticks, white bread and cheese focaccia. 2) Drinks: We each had two glasses of refreshing prosecco. They have a full wine list too! 3) Service: It's a it more fancy so the service is on point and very polite. Our server also did a great job of upselling us. Originally, my friend ordered a salad and I the bread basket. He convinced us to split both adding to our bill's total. He also suggested prosecco, which wasn't on our radar.4) Space: It's simple elegant with minimalist design, but striking. With big windows, the light pours into the space. Two uni-sex bathrooms are in the back near a private room for group dining. A bar is in the center of the restaurant.5) Price: The only complaint is the price point, but that's to be expected in City Center. Splitting bread, a salad and each ordering two glasses of prosecco and the tagliolini, our bill was $180+ with a 20% tip.
Be the first to ReplyGood location.
Gnocchi was fluffy and delicious. The soup was super flavorful! The pork chop was a little tough but flavor on top was good. Octopus was nice but too spicy. The atmosphere hip and euro but I was looking for an Italian hug.
Be the first to ReplyI had dinner there with a group of 4 on Saturday night.
The service and pasta were good. There are just a few fish entrees and I had high hopes for the Branzino. It was abysmal. Small portion, very bony, dry, and weird taste and after-taste for hours afterwards. At these prices, the food should ALL be good-to-excellent. Please take the Branzino off the menu and replace it with something decent. I was very surprised and disappointed and am unlikely to return.
Be the first to ReplyCentrolina is NOT a safe place for women.
If you don't want un-solicited sexually-explicit touching by random creepy old men forced upon you, stay away from here.I was dining alone at the bar and a man (who is a stranger to me, with whom I have never spoken, but is a regular client called Frederick, who is Norwegian, works in TV, is in his 60s or 70s, and overweight) came up to me and forced a sexually-explicit gesture on my body without my consent. This is deeply de-humanizing, deeply offensive conduct. It tells me that I am not a human-being, just a piece of meat, with no purpose other than to have his male entitlement and sexual desires forced onto me and my body. This is actually against at least 3 different laws in DC: the Street Harassment Prevention Act of 2018 (which also covers restaurants); Chapter 13, ยง 22-1321 - Disorderly conduct; and the DC Human Rights Act (covering gender discrimination). I reported this to Chef Amy, but she couldn't give a damn about ensuring that her male customers behave like grown-up men, not little boys.I have been a regular, because I had assumed that this was the sort of place where educated people dine, and that this was therefore a safe place for myself as a single woman to dine alone at the bar.Chef Amy has lost a faithful regular customer. I don't go to places where I am not safe - and clearly I am not safe at Centrolina from unwanted sexual touching by random men who are strangers to me.But I am also running for DC Council this year, and will be focusing on the rampant sexual harassment in this city that impacts upon so many women. I will be proposing legislation that makes restaurants liable for sexual harassment (as a revision of the 2018 Street Harassment Act, which already covers restaurants). About 80% of women in this city have been sexually harassed (much of which happens in restaurants and bars), and there is a massive frustration among women that places like this are not safe for women. I will call this the Centrolina Law, and I will be talking about it a lot on the campaign trail.By the way, I spent most of my career working as an institutional investor on Wall Street, a notoriously male-dominated environment (where about 95% of the hedge fund investors and investment bankers are men) - and I've never had anything like this happen to me in my career. ย I sure as hell don't expect it to happen when I'm having dinner at the weekend. ย Chef Amy: it's time to wake up, get with 2022, and start taking women's safety seriously in your restaurant. You should realize that we are all creatures of habit, and scumbag/creepy old-man Frederick has very likely done this to other women before, including in your restaurant - so you are sitting on a potential legal action from plenty of women if you don't start to take women's safety in your restaurant a little more seriously.

The wine list was also very good and if you the Chianti is the smoothest I've had...so delicious! Nice assortment of bread in the appetizer selection. Daughter had gnocchi and said it was the fluffiest she's had ...like no other. The pappardelle pasta with a meat sauce was very good. Extremely flavorful and felt like home!
