Wonderful ambiance food and service. We loved our lunch.
Centrolina lived up to the praise we had heard from our friends. We had lunch on a Monday. My pumpkin ricotta ravioli was incredibleโฆlight, but with incredible depth of flavor. Each of my colleagues raved about their plates. The restaurant has a soft and warm feel. Unpretentious and inviting. We have already planned another visit.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the visit, let chef Amy and team confidently guide the dining experience
Took my wife this past Saturday for a night in City without kids. The food was fantastic, Gordon our Server and Amy the Chef were engaging and treated us fantastic with a nice table. The place was lively and each course from anti-pasta to desert were special. Wine recommendations were solid and tailored to our requests. Perfect location at City Center for sure, but the food prep, delicate flavor combinations and presentation were all spot on. Amy - thx again from Dave and Stacey for a great night out.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous find
We stumbled on this gem and ate at the bar. Service was fantastic as was the pumpkin and ricotta ravioli and the chocolate panna cotta. Wine was good too. Definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated and overpriced
The food was OK, but not great. More of a wannabe creative than a proper Italian. Small portions, and certainly overpriced for what it is.
Be the first to ReplyA Great FInd
Centrolina is one of those places that's tucked away in a shopping area in downtown DC. But once you've found it - you'll know immediately it's a great find! They have such a unique flair to their menu, and an awesome wine selection to pair nicely. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and quite helpful when it comes to guiding you to the right combination of food and wine. Dishes are not your typical Italian, but every time there has been an awesome experience. It's also a local spot with a lot of regulars, which is another good indicator. Find it; book it; you'll love it!
Be the first to ReplyEnthusiastic service and tasty, creative Italian cuisine
This is a fun small restaurant in central DC with excellent classic and modern variations of typical Italian dishes. There are few cocktails and a very nice wine list with a focus on wines from Italy. We brought our own bottle which was accepted although there is normally a corkage fee of $50. The service was friendly and highly efficient and all of our dishes were delicious.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food
The food was delicious, service was professional. I find the dining room and bar itself to be rather sterile and off putting. Pasta dishes were all well executed.
Be the first to Replygreat neighborhood spot!
love this place; fancy menu that changes often (it's tough to find a simple pasta in red sauce--but they will do a side dish); pretty space and wonderful staff! definitely stop by for a meal if you visit DC --it's a great neighborhood place with a cozy feel and exceptional food! (they should stop charing an extra 15% in market now that COVID is over. it's "optional" but not cool-- it puts neighborhood regulars in a tough spot feeling bad to ask for the charge (for who knows what?) to be removed. they then hit you w/ a a bill to tip as well--just for shopping at the market, which already has pretty high prices. C'mon.)

Centrolina at CityCenterDC in DC is a great place to go for delicious Italian food and drinks in a cool and unique environment. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating to make sure that you have everything that you need for the best meal. Good experience every time I have been here.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday celebration
My friend invited me here for my birthday celebration. We like the modern style, light Italian food in right sized portions. The menu for the day is always the best choice, and is a quiet nice place to touch base and have a conversation with a friend
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Service Mediocre
Excellent food , okay service, good drinks. Went here for a business dinner and 5 stars are deserved, itโs just the service is really lacking. Be patient, & you will be okay.
Be the first to ReplyNOT a safe place for WOMEN diners
Centrolina is NOT a safe place for women. If you don't want un-solicited sexually-explicit touching by random creepy old men forced upon you, stay away from here.
I was dining alone at the bar and a man (who is a stranger to me, with whom I have never spoken, but is a regular client in his 60s or 70s) came up to me and forced a sexually-explicit gesture on my body without my consent.
(Watch out ladies: his name is Frederick, he sits at the bar, he is Norwegian โ and he is an animal and belongs outside in the gutter with the rats.)
This is such deeply de-humanizing, deeply offensive conduct. It tells me that I am not a human-being, just a piece of meat, with no purpose other than to have his male entitlement and sexual desires forced onto me and my body. This is actually against at least 3 different laws in DC.
I reported this to owner Amy Brandwein, but she couldn't give a damn - and instead she actually went out of her way to protect him. She cares more about protecting drunk old male patrons who force sexually-explicit gestures onto women's bodies without their consent. Wow - someone send her the #MeToo memo, because that crap shouldn't be still happening.
What's frightening is that this guy is a regular here - and if he's done this to me, he's certainly done it to other women also. And he'll only be further emboldened knowing that the owner has his back.
Further Proof DC is not a Food Town
It's a little unfair to pan a place when everyone is still recovering from the pandemic, but in addition to the horrible, slow service ("We're going to make your experience memorable. The menu starts with the Antipasti." Yes I can read the menu and have eaten out before, it took forever just to get an introduction to the sections of the menu before we could ask questions.) there was the interminable waits before the food arrived and then between courses and then to get the check and then to get the receipts. But also, there was the food. Wood-roasted mushrooms seemed mostly sauteed, what there was of them, the main ingredient, on a "parmesan brulee" that turned out to be a thick slab of custard. Not at all what I expected, and not in a good surprise way. Then the seafood pasta, not bad but basically a set of ingredients that had been stewed long enough that they were indistinguishable, not helped by the fact that our table was dark enough (others were much brights) that I couldn't see the squid-ink pasta well. Did I mention that it was drafty and cold? Desserts (bland lemon cake, basic brownie-like cake with tiny gelato sphere) were mediocre and small.
It feels right that Centrolina is in the middle of a nondescript upscale shopping area with the usual high-end brand boutiques. This is DC's approach to fine dining: expense-account prices for food that in SF, NYC, or LA would not rate anyone's attention. There are exceptions, but proceed at your own risk. I though their market wasn't bad, but it seems to be a third the original size (was closed when we arrived for dinner).
Great evening!
We walked past this place earlier in the day and decided it would be perfect for dinner. They only had the patio available but when we arrived a table was open inside. Our server, Goran was outstanding! Very warm greeting, excellent knowledge of the menu and great recommendations. With a nice bottle of Chianti our salad, ravioli and seared tuna were delicious. A regular guest brought his dog which in addition to the excellent food and service was the highlight of the evening! Next time in Washington we will go back.
Be the first to ReplyHorrendous Experience
Went to a favorite place to take advantage of lovely patio and many choices on menu. Had a horrible experience as the kitchen seemed unable to handle the number of clients. Took over 2 hours to get entrees (served 15 minutes apart), and then only after numerous complaints to manager. Was told they had seated a group from the Womenโs March and the kitchen was overwhelmed. While they comped our dinners, was totally shocked that we were charged for drinks and appetizers which took over 1 1/2 hours to be served. Also, no apologies from manager or owner/chef Amy Brandwein . She complained early into Covid about no one coming downtown and now it seems she is willing to ignore her clients in order to overfill her restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful dinner
We celebrated a belated anniversary dinner. Our server, Tyler, went above and beyond to make it a special dinner. The food was incredible with local, fresh ingredients. The restaurant has such a warm, lively glow. I highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFive stars are not enough
If I could rate this restaurant 10 stars I would. The food is as delicious as what you can find in the best restaurants in Italy. The homemade pastas are exquisite. We had an octopus panzanella salad that was tender and filled with fresh ingredients. The chef's crab cake torta is not to be missed. It is one of the best things I have ever had anywhere. It is made of layers of crepe and crab meat with a delicious lemony sauce. Truly heavenly. The portions are generous and the prices more than fair. The waiter Massimo is Italian and he provides excellent service. He makes you feel as if you are in a piazza in Rome. Che simpatico!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, informal atmosphere
This is an airy, informal restaurant that serves excellent food and provides great service.
We had dinner there with friends who are regular customers. I had the branzino, which was delicious. It was served whole, but without spines, over a bed of roasted potatoes and tomatoes. Our friends recommended the Melanze, which consisted of fried eggplant, honey and almond. Also, delicious. It was a fun evening.
The restaurant doubles as a grocery store/Italian deli.
If I could give more stars
If I could give more stars I would. We had the absolute pleasure of sitting in Timโs section on their cute little outdoor seating area and we were in for such a treat. Coming from the service industry myself, I can appreciate great and smart servers. Tim was not only a nice guy but he impressed me with the knowledge he has for the menu and the wine selections. He wasnโt afraid to give us his honest opinion on things and I just love that in a server, it makes me trust them more. I asked about a simple reduction that was on our appetizer and Tim was able to eloquently describe all of the notes and taste profiles, and how the chef makes it. Talk about a true professional. I canโt wait to come back again but I will be calling ahead to make sure he is working! And his managers best make sure heโs well taken care of because this man can go anywhere to be hired!
