Lots of smoke, little roast
Very scenic place, warm atmosphere with soft lights, well furnished. A very good start at the bar with an excellent cocktail (emingway special), then an inexorable shipwreck. Careless service, we order 4 dishes, my wife's first arrives, mine arrives 15 minutes later. The staff manages the wine, the glass remains empty for minutes between one refill and another. Requesting bread, he arrives at the table with the dish finished. The waiter serving dessert almost smears his dress. In summary, overall quality far below expectations.

I found this restaurant on IG and I am so glad I did. I usually don't travel to the lower east side, especially to eat. This restaurant made the trip worthwhile. You walk down a long hallway and down the stairs and enter a different world. Everyone from the beginning of our evening to the end, were super nice and professional. We ordered a wonderful lemon, vodka, champagne and sorbet drink that was made at the table - it was delicious, but seriously the glass was so tiny - I think I had four sips. I never order chicken a restaurant, but the description on the menu looked so good, I had to try it. We also ordered the salmon and the hamachi - both equally delicious! If you get a chance, definitely visit this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyCool venue and terrible service
Great that we were given a table in the dining room even though we only had a bar reservation. The venue is fantastic! Cocktails were great. Appetizer was ok but when my friends were finished they took their plates (I know it is normal in the us) and seconds after they brought, not only theirs, but also my main dish (before i had finished my appetizer)… when I said I wanted to finish my appetizer they responded “we will see what we can do”. In the main (scallops with sunchokes) there was sand… (but taste was good) I would go back for drinks but not for dinner
Be the first to ReplyJust awesome!
The cathedral restaurant was just really awesome in every possible way. The atmosphere is wonderful. We had a waiter that didn't tell us until the end that he was still a trainee, and you would never have known it. Young guy, great confidence, great service, good smile, and just made the whole night really perfect. The food was outstanding, some of the best food that we've ever had in the city. The atmosphere, great, and I could just go on and on. We were actually staying at the Moxy hotel right next store which made it very convenient. We will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyA total miss...
Quite unfortunate turn for our evening. Nearly first table seated but 1h15mn to get our first dish served totally destroyed our mood and evening plans - guessed ? Halloween. No matter how courteous, insistent and finally irate we were, nothing made the dysfunctional kitchen improve. Food was very erratic (half the dishes excellent, the other half too salty), it was just not their day, we hope. Treated as if everything was fine was not fine, won't go back this century...
Be the first to ReplyGreat Trendy Spot
I just ate at Cathedral with some friends this past weekend and I thought it was worthy of a 5 star review. Our server was great, our table was great. The potato chip caviar was a miss, but otherwise our cocktails, dinner and ambiance was 5 stars
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
I had dinner with my family a few days ago .A waiter spilled a lot of sauce from the fillet mignon on my husband brand new jacket. The manager told us not to worry and send us an e-mail that they would embrace our damages. They also brought us some desserts that we were not interested in or ordered , for free. Consequently we paid our 800 dollars bill .We send the jacket to the dry cleaners but unfortunately the sauce was too greasy and the spot is still there. We wrote them an e- mail asking to be reimbursed for the jacket replacement but they said the only thing they could do is to let us have a voucher of 50 dollars to use in their restaurant. This was totally unfair and very disappointing to us.

I went to this restaurant with my family a few days ago. A waiter spilled all the sauce from the filet mignon on my new jacket ruining it completely. They promised to reimburse me and send me a email not to worry, so I paid my 800.00 dollars bill I brought the jacket to the dry cleaners but they were not able to remove the stain as the sauce was very greasy. I wrote them an e-mail asking for the payment of the jacket replacement and they answered they will not cover it but all they could do is give me a 50 dollars coupon. I was profoundly disappointed by this experience. Eraldo B.
Be the first to ReplyAttitude, served cold.
The attitude of the maitre d put us both offside from the 2nd she arrived. "Stand to my left and wait for staff to seat you". No please or thank you. From there it was a mediocre experience and we could wait to get out of there. She should be washing dishes not greeting customers
Be the first to ReplyWhen your flight gets canceled…..
We wound up spending two unplanned nights in NYC after our flight home was canceled. We were tired and pretty stressed out and so we opted for the restaurant in the hotel. It was a very welcome surprise. It’s a beautiful restaurant and the service was excellent. We both had chicken, which was outstanding and a Napoleon made from phyllo dough. It included fruit and yogurt and was incredibly light and delicious. We had a great evening.
Be the first to ReplyA Visual Stunner
We ate at a semi-circle banquet in the bar area, unable to get a reservation in the main dining room. What a treat! We were able to see every person that came into the restaurant and felt like we were seated on the runway of a funky NYC fashion show! We loved the view. Since it was restaurant week, we opted for the 3-course prix fixe dinner. The service was great until we waited quite a while for our entrees to arrive. It seemed a bit off since everything else moved along at a good pace. We did end up ordering another bottle of wine while we waited so our bill was pretty high. The food was excellent. We did saunter to the main dining room to take a look- it is a stunning spot, but we were happy with our spacious spot in the bar.

Be the first to ReplyShown to poor location table; ignored
I was staying in the associated hotel and drawn in by the lovely look of the restaurant and the menu , which had what looked like many good selections. However, as a woman dining alone I was treated quite poorly. I made an early reservation, the restaurant was practically empty, I was shown to a table with a poor location, when I expressed that I wasn't happy with the table I was grudgingly told to move to another but told not to take any to the right of a certain row of tables. In my new, slightly improved table location, I sat, ignored completely for 20 minutes as wait staff and others walked by doing more important things in the practically empty restaurant. The wait grew too long and not a glass of water...a hello...a menu....or any sign that they wanted my business occurred. I left quite disgusted, but found a lovely dinner in The Smith across the street...complete opposite experience!
Be the first to ReplyPricey but Delicious
My husband and I enjoyed every morsel of our dinner at Cathedrale. We were there early in the evening so we found the service very good and the food came out quickly. The salad verte was very generous in size and delicious. My husband had the filet mignon and I had the Faroe Island Salmon. We both enjoyed the entrees. We don't usually order dessert but we made the exception this time...my husband had the creme brulee and I had the Sorrento Lemon which I am still dreaming about. This meal did not disappoint us. Not cheap but definitely delicious.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable Restaurant Week experience, but long wait times
Came here for Restaurant Week, and was impressed by the staggeringly high ceilings. Creates a very cavernous atmosphere, reminiscent of a cathedral. The food was excellent – loved the octopus, pasta, and chocolate cake. Even the complimentary bread was delicious. However, the wait times for everything was rather long. We had to wait for a while even though we had a reservation to be seated. The time in between courses was long, and it took forever to get the check. Overall, it was an an enjoyable experience and I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect setting with good food - service could matchup to price level
High priced food well prepared in a wonderful cathedral setting. Good wine list with higher priced wines. Service ok but could use an uplift. Wine selection in given price range would require more expertise
Be the first to ReplyWORST BIRTHDAY EXPERIENCE
Honestly, the mere fact that I’m writing this review expresses my level of disappointment. Now as a waiter, who has over 6+ years of experience in hospitality with a degree in hospitality management and who has worked for the Fairmont hotels in the Caribbean understand mistakes do happen, but the blatant disrespect leads me to make this review. It’s my partner's birthday and I wanted to surprise him with a lovely dinner but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case after dining here. I gave it 2 stars because I was early for my reservation and the host and the bartender were spot on as I waited for my partner to arrive. The bartender was pretty knowledgeable as I expressed that I was from Barbados and the rum cocktail ingredients reminded me of what we call home a ( rum punch). Are y’all still with me? Side note, I’m not the one to write reviews, things happen and I understand because I’ve worked in the field. Now we sat down things started pretty good the octopus was an 8/10 paired with a glass of Sauvignon blanc. After that course, we’ve waited to be exact 41 mins for our mains. At this point, I’m trying not to get upset because I know how much of a big deal this was to me. The food came, I ordered the Black Sea bass and he ordered the rotisserie chicken which I should add that it was 9/10. So the food was good however our side never made the table. As I said, things do happen, sometimes waiters do forget to fire/ notify the kitchen that the table is on to its next course. But, but, but! The fact that the table next to us who order the same food that we did and who didn’t have to wait was messed up! His food came so quickly that in my mind I thought that this had to be a joke. My plans on spending over 1k turned to 200. The manager offered to take the food off but I told him that was unnecessary as the food was good and we ate it, so it was only right that we paid for it. While waiting the waiter expressed that he was sorry for the mishap the kitchen made and that the manager is going to bring us something special. That in itself took a minute because…. I guess the chocolate soufflé was gonna make the experience better. We waited!!!! At this point, I asked for the check. I paid and tipped as well! Overall because of what I’ve experienced, I’m afraid this will be my first and last time attending this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Place to Celebrate!
Enjoyed a birthday dinner celebration at Cathedrale on a girls' weekend in NYC - amazing location, great food and drinks - definitely made the celebration even better!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Cuisine and Ambience
The first time here. The menu and the food were outstanding! The other aspect of service was another story. There were four of us. Our waiter did not present as cordial or friendly. He did not engage in polite conversation. He was so uncomfortable in interacting with us that he handed over his serving to another waiter. Quite an embarrassing moment. One of us is a Dean at a high profile University. The rest of us have professional careers. I have never experienced this with Fine Dining. However the substitute waiter, Lorenzo, made up for our humiliation! He was everything a waiter should be. The management should implement more training with customer relations. Despite the exceptional food and ambience, I shall most likely never return.
