Great little place for tapas.
We had uni and scrambled eggs (so good!), salted cod fish sticks (can't go wrong with fried), razor clams in butter (love razor clams!), cashews and scallops (scallops were cooked perfectly), pork belly (delish!), lamb lengua (fab), and oxtail and peppers (excellent). Would definitely go back.

Long story short, I love Casa Mono but please don't order Pan con tomate here.... I've visited Casa Mono for several times, and I enjoyed most dishes. I had never ordered Pan con tomate here before until my most recent visit last week. Pan con tomate is one of my favorite thing in Spanish foods, but the Pan con tomate here is a disaster. I think the quality of tomato was not good. It was just very very bland and basic type of tomato.. But besides of the Pan con tomate, the general experience was nice. My favorite was the Bone Marrow. It was super delicious. And also, the ensalada was also my favorite. As of my memory, I think it is within top 3 salad in Manhattan. The service was okay. But the space was a bit too small.

This is a place that once you discover it, you want to come back again and again. The tiny restaurant on Irving Place expanded its capacity with outside seating so you have a higher chance to score a reservation. We started with the scallops in Serrano pepper curry and the octopus/pulpo. Then we inhaled the juicy and tender duck breast. The hands down favorite were the crispy pig ears with spicy cucumbers and cantaloupe. We would have ordered a repeat of it but decided to save room for desert. The wine was excellent, the servers and the sommelier were friendly professional and attentive. One small suggestion, for people in the outside seating it would be nice to be offered wet naps to wash hands. The bathroom is only in the inside and for one person, so have to wait a lot to simply wash hands before the meal.
Be the first to ReplyFood was very good.
That's the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars. They have a "policy" everyone has to be present to sit down. We had a reservation for 3! That 4 person table was not going anywhere. We had to wait in the rain for our last party. Then when we finally sat down it was in front of the waiter station. So I asked if we can move our table to the corner. The host of course said "no we have a 4 person party coming" We were sitting at a 4 person table.. So it was ridiculous. The wait staff was very nice but the host and these other rules completely ruined the experience. Enough to stop me from going back or recommending. A shame the food isn't bad.

Truly one of the best restaurants I've been to in the city by far, though Spanish tapas have a special place in my heart so maybe I'm biased. Every bite of every dish was incredible! We didn't have enough room in our stomachs to order everything we wanted to try on the menu. The standouts were the Jamon Iberico, razor clams, and confit goat. Service was also on point and very timely. Cute little restaurant with a very cozy and intimate feel. Perfect for a date. We'll be back to try more of the menu for sure! Well-deserved Michelin star.

My family of 4 went to Casa Mono earlier this week, and we had an amazing experience! We sat in their heated covered patio, and it was more spacious and quiet than indoors. I was reading reviews here on yelp after the fact, and all the critical reviews mentioned foods we didn't order. My family thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered, and that is why I'm sharing the list here: Ensalada Mono: manchego and pimentón marcona almonds (least favorite, but good to have some greens! It was still very good.) Burrata: toasted sourdough, calabrian fig jam, and coppa serrana Arroz Negro: fluke and guindilla emulsion Fideos: chorizo, clams, and garlic sherry aioli Lamb Belly: marcona mole and sunchoke (favorite!) Bone Marrow: trout roe, horseradish, and everything bagel spice (in the picture on this review, after we had eaten some of it) Duck Breast: maitake and miel de jerez Pork Sobrasada: quince and honeycomb (close second favorite) Duck Egg: mojama and black truffles Confit Goat: avocado queso, scallion ash, and sicilian pistachios Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
Great food. A little tight seating inside. Very cozy to the next table or the staff walking by. Enjoyed everything we had. My favorites were the fluke crudo, razor clams(just a bit of sand) and the scallops(cooked to perfection!). Didn't have room for dessert. We had 11 items plus the free bread. They recommend for a party of 3 to order 6-9 dishes.
Be the first to ReplyBeware! Sitting outside, placed an order for a $125 bottle
Beware! Sitting outside, placed an order for a $125 bottle of wine with dinner. They brought new unopened bottle out to us to show us the label, then took it inside to open? Not sure I've had that happen in 40 years. Come back out with bottle open and obviously corked wine! When I tasted, the guy immediately claimed someone else had tasted it (our bottle?, definitely never had that happen before!!) and proclaimed it good, but he could obviously tell it was corked. Hmmmm.... Why do I feel scammed? Then for dessert requested a churro from their sister restaurant right next door, was told could only order from (and eat in) that restaurant. No problem, we'll just go in there to order. Wasn't told it would take 45 minutes (for a churro!) - and get this, the churro is made in the deep fryer at Casa Mono! Average food and service. Like I started this review, beware!

Love this place ! Food is amazing ! Little heavy if you are the super healthy person maybe not for u ! Lol Service is great, place is small but has great energy at dinner time ! Hard to get a table tho !
Be the first to Replysolid meal at casa mono recently.
restaurant is cute, a bit tight inside, they do have street tables as well. overall the food was good, some dishes were unbalanced (they lean heavy on salt overall), service was good, pacing pretty good. One issue I had was our server did not help us form an order for our party, in fact got us to add to our order by suggesting additional dishes and it ended up being way way too much food for lunch for 3. great - razor clams (addicting oil, ask for extra bread to soak it up), paella croqueta, foie gras (very well balanced), urchin and eggs, bone marrow and trout roe (again very well balanced), scallops and curry. Dishes that I probably wouldn't order again - confit goat (salty), fideos (good, but some very salty bites), mussels (large portion but mostly unmemorable), albondigas with cockles, sepia and xo (very salty).
Be the first to ReplyHonestly food is not even that great.
Kinda salty in a way that only the first bite tastes good. The portion is tapas sides so we ordered like 20+ dishes for 4 people as recommended by the server. The service is really great tho, change our plates and utensils after each rounds. Also 4 of us just crammed in a small corner( next to the wine wall) , can't even stretch legs, I wonder if this violates fire code when we sat there.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible experience.
The food, the service and the atmosphere was top notch. Thank you Danielle for managing our dinner.
Be the first to ReplyI don't know how to rate this place.
Was it worth the money? Def not. Did I like our seating? Oh no - we were outside in a tent with over 4 tables just by ourselves. Was the service good? Yes, very attentive. Was there anything I enjoyed? Yes - negro arroz and the creme brûlée. The other 4-5 dishes, no. Do I remember any of the other dishes? No. Will i go back? Maybe..

Came here for a lunch date and it was fantastic! We ordered the scallops, razor clams, oxtail and duck breast. The food was all so creative. I haven't had razor clams since I lived in HK so I had to get it once I saw it on the menu. The scallops were delicious but I think the curry masked it the sweetness of it. Both the razor clams and scallops were generous portions and so fresh. To me, both were slightly on the raw side and I wished they cooked both just a hair longer. The duck breast was perfection. The oxtail was not what I expected and felt much smaller than the size I expected. Still very tasty but I would skip.

Dishes here are a little hit or miss in my opinion, but overall a solid restaurant. We reserved an outdoor table, which was fully covered and very warm. It's definitely quieter than the inside, where the tables are very small and close together. However, it would've been cool to sit at the bar and watch the chefs prepare the food. We ordered 5 dishes for two people, and they came out in two separate waves with a switch of clean cutlery in between. Razor clams a la plancha (4/5) Solid dish, comes with about 6 clams with a generous amount of olive oil and garlic. The texture of the clams were firm and bouncy.Scallops (3.5/5)The scallops themselves were perfectly cooked, and the green curry sauce was really unique and unexpected. However, the scallops themselves were too salty. Creamy eggs (2.5/5)This was my least favorite dish of the night by far. It was essentially just scrambled eggs with a few pieces of uni on top and some walnuts. It didn't really feel like a coherent dish and was also pretty bland and heavy on the grease. I would definitely recommend skipping this. Skirt steak (5/5) I loved the skirt steak. I don't eat steak very often but it was definitely one of the best steaks I've ever had. The meat was perfectly cooked to medium rare, and had a great char. The onions on top were nice and tangy, and the romesco added nice nuttiness. Pig ears (5/5)These were so good. They had the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy. The pig ears were deep fried and super crispy, with the richness offset by the tangy pickled raisins and Brussels sprouts. Overall, some dishes were definitely better than others, but I would really recommend ordering the pig ears and skirt steak. It's on the pricier side, since the portions aren't very big and the costs of the plates adds up.
Be the first to ReplyI saw this place on the list of Michelin-starred
I saw this place on the list of Michelin-starred restaurants and heard about it from my friend, so I decided to reserve a table for three to meet up with two friends I hadn't seen in a long time. Upon walking in, I was greeted with a cozy, more rustic atmosphere that immediately made me feel at home, and we were all greeted by our wonderful server who explained the menu to us. We took some time to decide what we wanted to get (my friend who went here gave me some recs), and these are my impressions of the dishes we got:Creamy Eggs with Sea Urchin, Walnuts, Lime & Ancient Anchovy Oil - I think this was my favorite dish of the night! The eggs were so soft and smooth, and combined with the sea urchin was literal chefs kiss. Went really with complementary bread they gave us. Would definitely get again.Pork Sobrasada with Honeycomb & Quince Mermelada - this was something that my friend told me was a crowd favorite here, and I can definitely see why! The pork was super flavorful and went well with the honeycomb and mermelada on top of the toast they served us. Really enjoyed it, though I think it was a tad hard sharing this with three people.Razor Clams a la Plancha - this was my first time having razor clams, and they were really yummy! They were super tender and very flavorful. Def a great dish for seafood lovers.Skirt Steak with Romesco and Onion Mermelada - we all wanted another meat dish, so we got this, and the steak was super flavorful. I really like the reddish orange component on the bottom (not exactly sure what it is), and it paired well with the meet and mermelada. Don't know if it made a name for itself compared to other steak dishes I've had, but it was definitely solid.Bone Marrow with Trout Roe, Horseradish & Everything Bagel Spice - for sure my second favorite dish of tonight (or maybe even favorite; debating between the egg and this now lol). The bone marrow was so so creamy and smooth and went AMAZINGLY with the buttery and crispy toast that was provided. Every single bite was filled with umami, and I just could not get enough of it. For sure getting this again if I come back!Duck Breast with Cherry Mostarda and Grilled Endive - I love duck, so this was something we just had to get. It was nicely cooked, quite tender, and very flavorful, but I think compared to other duck dishes I've had, it just fell a tad bit short. Not that this was bad; still so delicious, but can't remember much about it otherwise.DessertBread pudding - I forgot the name of the dish, but we got this bread pudding with ice cream and assorted berries, and I LOVED IT. It was a day before my birthday, so I got a little candle with it too which was so cute! Absolutely loved the flavor and texture of the bread pudding, and the cold ice cream contrasted with the warm pudding, and the berries gave it a nice tartness. An amazing dessert!Overall - I had a very good experience here! I can see why it has held a star for so long, so def would consider coming back in the future!
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of my favorite spots in the city.
I love Tapas, and theirs are exceptional. It's a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Best spot is at the counter, watching your food prepared. Well deserved Michelin Star
Be the first to ReplyThe dishes were excellent really delicious as usual.
The sommelier knowledgeable, amiable and cordial. The service/waiter not so much- 15-20 minutes after we sat at our table we were told that they needed the table by 7:30. We finished our dinner around 7:15. Around 7:40 after ignoring us walking by us about 5 times and not offering a dessert menu the waiter came back with the bill and walked away without a word about dessert. When he came back for the bill 15min later I asked for the dessert menu and he emphatically said to us "I told you we needed the table by 7:30 it is 7:41 now (it wasn't it was later) and I can't offer you dessert only a chocolate mousse - we need the table now" . The people at the table next to us all looked at us -- heard what was going on. I declined the dessert they offered, but they brought it anyways. We put our cards and the waiter did not pick up the bill someone else did. In all the time they took to bring the bill - ask us to leave - pick up the bill - they could've offer the dessert menu and even perhaps prepares/ serve the dessert that I wanted. But I guess they just wanted us out of there because they did not even offer to sit us somewhere else. One of the people sitting next to us came up to me while waiting on the line for the bathroom and told me that they had seen how rude they were and how the restaurant had essentially kicked us out for no apparent reason. I had been to Casa Mono many times, brought many friends to dine there, always a great experience until this past Friday.

As someone who has never gone out for tapas it was an amazing introduction. We sat in the outdoor patio in wintertime and it was a very comfortable space that was heated perfectly for winter in NYC. Good service, great food, and the paella croquettes were insanely delicious.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and wine selection.
Small intimidate restaurant. Must eat if you want to drink. Highly suggest: a reservation, the razor clams and the goat. Make sure w you get the duck egg too. WOW

I have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally made a reservation same day I was in the city. Place is quite small actually, but that's fine. Food is tapas style, meant to share together. I believe it has a Michelin star, food here definitely lives up to its standard. I liked every dish ordered, definitely recommend the duck breast.Food: Environment: Service:

My cousin took me here for the first time about a month back and it was one of the best tapas experiences I've ever had outside of Spain. If you had to choose one dish as an absolute must get, definitely go for the razor clams. We loved them so much that we ordered two! The ambiance and wine selection also make this one of the best spots near Gramercy Park. Perfect for a romantic night out or a solo dinner! Highly recommend Casa Mono

Second time coming here and both experiences have been great. The food is absolutely incredible and tastes super fresh. The attention to detail is greatly appreciated. We sat at the bar the second time, but service was just as great! I can't wait to come back. Dishes that stood out (everything we tried): jamón ibérico, razor clams, fluke crudo, octopus, scallops, octopus, and cheese board!

This has the look and feel of a European cafe with quality offerings. Always crowded, but if you can get a seat you will appreciate the atmosphere. That atmosphere does not come cheap with some glasses of wine approaching 30 bucks, but if you are worried about price you should not be there. My short rib was quite flavorful. I also left the credit card there and I really appreciate the staff who made an effort to find it.
Be the first to ReplyGreat and friendly service, very accommodating and helpful.
The food was hit or miss. Ordered the pan con tomate, skirt steak, sobrasada with pepper and quince, and razor clams. The pan con tomate was okay, it didn't use the shatteringly crisp pan de cristal that I think it's traditionally used but still by itself it was a pretty solid dish. The razor clams were chewy and salty - definitely regretted getting this one. The skirt steak and sobrasada were great tho. Highly recommend those!
