Carmine's Italian Restaurant - Times Square New York Reviews from The Last Year
Dinner before a show
Early dinner before a show and this place is not to be missed! It says its a NY institution and now i know why. Brilliant atmosphere, lovely people and amazing food. Portions are huge as the reviews say, but speak to the servers and they will guide you. We were a couple and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Fabulous meal with great service.
Lucked out with Table 5 by the front window. Our server Jonathan rocked it in every way. He gave us great recommendations and attentive service throughout the evening. Stuffed artichokes, chicken scaloppini, shrimp fra Diablo and bread pudding for dessert were amazing. Can't wait to go back.
FOR LARGE groups, not couples
We were seated at a two-top outdoors and waited and waited for anyone at all to acknowledge our presence. Finally our drink order was taken and a basket of bread tossed on the table. After another long wait we received glasses of water but not the wine we had ordered. Then the server told us that all of the entrees were family-sized for 3-4 people minimum and nothing on the menu was appropriate for two, except possibly the appetizers. We understood then why the couple next to us left with only half of their food eaten and had offered to share with us when we arrived! Looked like a great place for families or large groups but not couples, so the tables for two don’t really make sense, and that info would’ve been good to know up-front before a 30-minute wait. We left without ordering (and the wine never arrived!)
I had the baked ziti off the catering menu here.
It was really good - even in a large portion, the pasta was still chewy and the sauce had rich and bright flavor. I wish they had smaller portions as an option on the regular menu, but the value isn't bad if you have a group or don't mind leftovers.
Great experience at a NY institution
As a native New Yorker I knew Carmines is a well oiled machine and our recent visit proved they're still at the top of their game. We were a party of 13, which increased to 15 at dinner time, went after a Saturday play matinee, which also happened to be the same day as the St. Patty's day parade, so 'busy' just begins to describe the restaurant and the city. Reservations are always a must on weekends and were were very happy they could add the 2 people at the last minute. We had time between the play ending and our reservation, so when we checked in and their bar area was packed, they had a couple of recommendations on bars to go for to wait, and they had my cell in case they needed us. Our table was ready on time (which in itself is pretty amazing) and the service and food were perfect. I'm a Veal fan and the Veal marsala was delicious We (and I think almost all the tables around us) were also celebrating a birthday and they did a nice job singing. For those unfamiliar with Carmines, its family style, meaning you order a few dishes to share for the table. The wait staff has done this before, so rely on them on to figure out how much salad, appetizers and entrees to order. Our waiter was spot on, very little left over, with everyone very full, so no oversell at all. We also had some food sensitivities and our waiter listened, recommended and delivered. We went with the double size bottle of carmines house red and white wine which was very reasonably priced, (they have a large selection of other wines to choose from if you want higher end.) The bill was very reasonable, no hidden services charges or upcharge for using a credit card. Overall a strong recommend
This place is amazing; if you are visiting Time Square,
This place is amazing; if you are visiting Time Square, Carmine's is a must. This restaurant is ALL family style so be ready to share some amazing dishes with your party. Service and food is great; however, you definitely need to make a reservation beforehand as dinner time gets full really quick.
5 star food and service
Meals are delicious (and huge) we could have ordered 2 pasta dishes between the 6 of us. The atmosphere is brilliant, the food was 5 star. Highly recommend! This restaurant made our first night in NYC!
I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was
I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was here! Be prepared for huge portions!! My husband and I weren't lol. We came here shortly before going back home to LA so couldn't take any leftovers. Everything we had was delicious. Love the location right off Times Square. Service was great as well and loved the atmosphere of the restaurant! Totally Italian. Loved it!
Great family place
The food was lovely but he prepared for the HUGE portions! I went with my partner and we were advised to share 1 appetizer and 1 main meal between us. This was still far too much! We ordered the garlic bread to start, this was 9 pieces with cheese on! We took the leftovers back to our hotel so nothing went to waste! Reasonably priced and even better is you go in a larger group as you can share the food.
Great place to gather for family meal! Server friendly food
Great place to gather for family meal! Server friendly food was delicious and plenty of it!
I was recommended to come here by a coworker.
Glad he did. The portions are huge. A salad and a pasta would feed a family of 4-6 it seems. We started with the burrata salad which was served so not so great of a photo. Huge portion of that. So creamy. The penne alla vodka was great. We kept eating but didn't come close to finishing it. The bus boy was nice enough to bag it for us to share with others. The chicken Parmesan was so yummy. We finished it all. Perfect thinness with that sauce. Yummmm. The waiter was polite. Clean bathrooms. Overall old school Italian restaurant feels with the homemade Italian sodas.
The Carmines restaurant was amazing.
The food was so tender and cooked in a way thats not to overwhelming or underwhelming. It just had the perfect blend of flavors that I have never seen. The service was amazing and the people just looked like they had so much life in them. It was and is the most amazing restaurant in the world.
Expensive food but probably because you're in Times Square
Expensive food but probably because you're in Times Square but portions are large, each dish can definitely be shared with 2-3 people. Very friendly staff and food was really tasty! You will not leave hungry
Terrible waiter / server Edwin
Absolute worst waiter in a long time - his name tag said Edwin, back of the restaurant section. What an absolutely terrible attitude. What a poor approach to customer service. Edwin should be reprimanded / fired by Carmines. Shame on Edwin for his several insulting comments and treating our table the way he did - Edwin ruined our evening and our experience at Carmines.
Fun place for birthday dinner!
My wife and I came here for my birthday in late February. Our veal scaloppini was exquisite, with a light lemony sauce (without capers, thankfully) on a bed of sautéed spinach. It was a generous portion for two which suited us just fine; some of the other dishes have quantities large enough for entire football teams! We didn’t need pasta, but it’s odd that Carmine’s didn’t add a small portion to the dish just to round things out. We’re talking spaghetti not saffron oysters. Our only option was to order a family side which would have been total overkill. The restaurant staff came by to sing Happy Birthday in unison when presenting our chocolate pistachio cannolis. One even had a candle. That was a nice touch. Conversely, I didn’t really care for our waitress. She seemed a bit disappointed by our modest order (we were two – not five people), her voice was barely audible, her nose showed signs of nasal discharge, and she dismissed (as in blew off) my polite attempts to exchange a few words in Spanish after hearing her explain the menu to a nearby table of Latinos. I also felt duped by the gal who seated us in the elegant (but noisy) main dining room even though I had explicitly requested upstairs seating in my reservation. She claimed that they didn’t seat upstairs so early, but later I took a stroll, found the area bustling with people, and learned from the waiters there that they actually started serving 30 minutes before we arrived. Carmine’s must remember rule number one: Do not lie to your customers, *especially* Cherry Wonderdog! I would certainly return to Carmines – it’s a classy, fun restaurant. The food alone was worth it, and given the portion sizes, the value was quite high, particularly at New York standards. Nevertheless, given the aforementioned minor issues related to treatment of care, Cherry Wonderdog has no choice but to deduct one star from the coveted Cherry Wonderdog culinary scale.
Dinner at Carmines
Had a resy for the 6 of us set up after we took our kids and grandkids to see Wicked. The weather in NY last Saturday was windy, and very very rainy. Was great to warm up over some fabulous food served at Carmines. Never disappoints. And we love the noise of the place. Best atmosphere around! Was a great way to complete a terrific day despite the weather.
Food was good.
Lasagna was great, calamari was good. The lemon drop was delicious and the focaccia is also delicious. The portions are huge so beware. Our waiter was great and attentive, the service was good. The ambiance was...ok. Very loud and bright, definitely a place to go for a big group or family night, vs a date night or intimate chill night out.
Carmines never disappoints.
Portions are extremely large. One dish could feed 4-6. We had the shrimp and added gluten free pasta. Carmine's salad is loaded with meat and cheese. Our waiter was terrific. He told us a little bit of history about the restaurant. The restaurant is busy. I prefer sitting on the first floor. I have been here at Christmas time and the decor is beautiful.

Good Afternoon. It looks like you have requested a name transfer for Carbone NY. Unfortunately, this is one of the restaurants that is almost impossible to do name changes for. They don’t accept phone calls so they are difficult to change the reservations that were booked online.
