Carmelina's Boston Reviews
Freaking amazing.
Loved the side risotto. Come in and know what you want- they will love you. We've been to Italy and this was up to par with it. Great experience.
Please - change the music !
First, let me say that the food was AMAZING. We went a little bit overboard with the menu, but ordered the Roasted Beet Salad, Chicken Parmesan, the Carbonara, Pasta with Bolognese sauce and the Sunday Macaroni. Total YUM! The only reason I rated Carmelina's "Very Good" rather than "Excellent" was the music. It was loud, overbearing House Music that made it difficult to converse with someone across the table. It's an Italian restaurant - how about some Italian music?

The tuna arrabbiata appetizer and pesce pistachio (cod), main course were both very disappointing. Both lacked major flavor, something you wouldn't expect when paying $22 and $34 per dish. The only thing that kept this a four star review and not lower was the Sunday Macaroni dish. The penne was so good, you could tell it was homemade. The meatballs were to die for (wish we got those as an app instead of the tuna). Would come back to Carmelina's just for this dish!
Always a treat! Friendly staff, food is delicious
Always a treat! Friendly staff, food is delicious every-time . Highly recommend this as a dining option
The food was excellent and the service was great.
We loved the bolognese and the risotto.
Service was horrible.
We were there less than an hour and asked to leave after we paid, waiting for less than 10 minutes for our ride. Never in my life have I been asked to leave in that amount of time. Absolutely ridiculous. Food was amazing. Fire your waiters.

The restaurant is small, but we still got seated right at our reservation time and did not have to do any waiting. Food came out very quickly and was very hot. The scampy was very good and came with lots of garlic, which I love. The chicken parm was also delicious, with a large portion of chicken.

Our favorite place for Italian cuisine anywhere! Great for a romantic dinner with a date, families or alone at the bar!
Order anything from the menu and you will be pleased.
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Boston. Make reservations!

Second time dining at this restaurant! Great food 2 times
Second time dining at this restaurant! Great food 2 times in a row! One dish is enough to feed two people!
Excellent - authentic - great service
The Caesar salad was perfect; crisp, with a flavorful dressing and a generous portion of anchovies. Followed by an entree sized risotto with prosciutto and pea. The latter was moist and tasted like home made - perfect. The staff were so attentive. My first visit but as a local, I will be back many times.
A Special Gem in the North End!!!
So glad we finally got into Carmelinas. We had an early dinner … 3:00 and so worth it! Excellent service from all staff! Food was awesome! We started with beef carpaccio which was perfect to share on a hot day. For our mains we had Sunday macaroni and Fruitti Del Mar! Both fantastico!!!!! We had plenty to bring home for leftovers the next day! Keep doing what you’re doing!!
Terrific pasta, and a pleasant atmosphere
The food here was really outstanding. The best dish we had was the Crazy Alfredo, but the pasta carbonara was very good, and the mussels Fra Diavolo appetizer were also very good. The Italian wine was excellent for the price, $45 for a bottle of quite good Sangiovese. The weight staff were friendly, overworked, but efficient as well as pleasant.
Very disappointed
This was my second time getting a lunch at Carmelina‘s. This time was really disappointed, the service was terrible, no talk, just come and very rude. Horrible service and the price is really too much. The food was not so great, I missed more taste. Overall very disappointed, and the worst thing was I want to make a nice lunch with family visiting Boston. Totally disappointed.
Amazing food, less amazing service
The food here is lovely! They have a really good menu, I could’ve had so many of the dishes but went for the pasta capriciosse which I loved. All my family loved theirs as well but the only thing that lets this place down is the service. It’s a very small restaurant so theres not too many tables but they had about 5 servers, roughly 2-3 tables per server so you would think they’d be very attentive - but I found the opposite. Our server wasn’t very friendly and took a while to come to us to give us menus and order ect. No one came to check on us once we’d received our meals of top up our drinks.
MUST GO
Went for dinner at 4pm. Tiny place but a must go for the food. Food ratings below Risotto 7.7/10 Bread 7.0/10 Sunday macaroni 9.6/10 Crazy Alfredo 9.3/10 Carbonara 7.9/10
It’s worth besides the service
Food is very good, service is the worst. They were rude and in personal. I had a brasato with risotto and it was great. In average, 3 stars.
Good food, unfriendly service and insane expensive prices for kids
The food was delicious. We were there with my 3 year old daughter. Unfortunately the service was not really friendly. A big surprise was the check. They charged us 22$ for plain pasta for our little one. This is a reason why I will never come back.
Great fun dinner
Wow - this meal was a lot of fun. Its the North End - so things are busy, and slightly chaotic - but this is to be expected. Food here was great, servers seemed a bit over capacity, but everything was still great, and as a family we had a lot of fun.
I have to mention their service.
The warm and friendly staff make people feel doubly warm, providing attentive and thoughtful service to customers. The comfortable and pleasant environment allows people to enjoy the food to the fullest while relaxing their minds.
This restaurant served the best Italian food I've ever had
This restaurant served the best Italian food I've ever had in the United States. I went here on the recommendation of some friends, and it's probably the best they've ever made! It's a small restaurant, which makes for a very intimate dining experience, but it also means you need to try to get reservations as far in advance as possible. I had the Meatballs as an appetizer, and the Chicken Parmesan as my main; both items were the best I've ever had, respectively. The portions are very big, so you definitely won't leave hungry. The restaurant has a strict time limit on entry and exit, but personally, I see that as a positive - - if they didn't operate this way, far fewer people would be able to experience this wonderful culinary experience. They happily make recommendations for dessert options, nearby, as well, if you are interested in continuing to socialize. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, and I only hope that I have enough advance notice of my future trips to Boston to allow me to get reservations!
We ordered the chicken parm and the mushroom cream pasta
We ordered the chicken parm and the mushroom cream pasta for lunch. It was good, big portions but still pretty pricey. No one asked us if we wanted a beverage so we just had the water we were served. The bread service was excellent, served with olive oil, balsamic and parm. The bread slices were small, wished they had been a bit bigger. The chicken parm was very good. The mushroom pasta was undercooked. I love my pasta al dente but this tasted a bit raw. The service was subpar at best. The gentlemen serving us acted like they were doing us a favor. The dining room space is tight so be prepared to wait and to be very close to your neighbors--which would totally be worth it if the food was spectacular but it was just meh for us.
Amazing food and great service.
The Sunday Macaroni was Just what I was craving on a chilly Sunday afternoon when I was in town last week. Will definitely go back!
Found this place at random for a late dinner.
All I can say is... AMAZING!!! I had the lobster ravioli and it is to die for. Thanks!!!
*** 4.
5 stars *** Worth the wait (if you don't have a reservation)! Delicious everything and even better service. When we asked for an extra box to take the bread home because our mom liked it, they threw extra bread in the box (so kind!). For 3, with leftovers: Frutti di Mare Wild Mushroom Pesto Pan Roasted Chicken Breast The pasta was perfect. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, just yum. The chicken was also well cooked a nice complement to the pasta. Don't think you can go wrong here!

The tuna arrabiata and meatballs were fantastic! However, the clams were gritty and needed a bit more cleaning. Atmosphere was nice and service was good.
This is in my opinion the best in the North End.
We absolutely love it! Ask for crazy Alfredo.
Food was very good.
Not the best. But really good, nonetheless. HUGE portion sizes. Very good wine choices by the glass. Lots of them! Would I go back? In a freakin' heartbeat!!!!

Small family owned Italian spot with delicious food.
The place stays packed so make reservations in advance. Everything we tried was delicious. Save room for cannolis across the street at Mikes Pastries. Parking in this area, especially on the weekend, is a chore so take a ride share or plan to walk. Paul Revere house is just around the corner.
Best Italian food in the USA! Ask for Nick and you will be treated to a fantastic night of vintage Boston cuisine!!
We were lucky enough to book a reservation, three months before our trip and we were just blown away! No kidding probably the best Italian food i’ve ever had in the USA.. Our server Nick was sooo attentive and was the star of the show! his knowledge of the menu, and his attention to our table was top notch! smoothly handled walk ins and didn’t miss a beat.. the ambience of the restaurant is 2nd to none and 2 hours just flew by! Never felt rushed and felt like we were family. The highlight of our trip to Boston!! Can’t wait to get back!!
Exceptional Italian food in the North End!!!
FANTASTIC place. Small, intimate and buzzing with conversation. I had the Brasato with Milanese risottto.........OUTSTANDING! Top risotto I've had anywhere in the world. Wife had the Penne Gorgonzola. She RARELY raves about food let alone finish her meal! That says it all. Staff is attentive.. Prices good and portions good! So good we went on Dec. 6th for a special night out and we're gong back tonight (Dec. 20th). Nice selection of wines by the glass. Do yourself a favor and go! Ask for Gianno!
Worth the wait
We were visiting from out of town and were told to eat in Little Italy. We stopped in after reading reviews and being given recommendations to check out Carmelina’s. They were kind and we were able to get on the wait list. I knew it was going to be worth the wait, and it surely was! Our waitress was kind and friendly. She helped with suggestions and brought us a lovely wine. It was the best atmosphere, best staff, and even better food! It’s not a meal we will forget. My three year old did her happy dance when she tasted that Sunday sauce! Would love to go back again. Thank for you a wonderful experience!
Small place, amazing food
Party of 5 (max of 6 accommodation only) got lucky and got a table without reservations. Place is pretty small but the food is amazing. Service was fast and the food is as close as it can get to authentic Italian in the states. Highly recommend it if in the area.
Excellent food-worth the wait
Excellent food here. Well worth the 40 minute wait! Bolognese, Crazy Alfredo, Brasato short ribs over risotto and fried calamari pleased us all greatly. We all would go back tomorrow!
Could have eaten here every night.
While in Boston, I did the Freedom Trail tour. Stopped to ask where I could get really good Italian food and Carmelina's was the suggestion. Glad I was alone as parties with two or more had an hour wait. A counter seat was perfect. The rolls, fresh out of the oven were warm and fabulous. Olive with balsamic was topped off with freshly grated parm…yummy. I had a view of the kitchen preparing all the meals and it made me wish my visit was longer so I could return. Bolognese was so good, I sent a video to make my foodie friends jealous. Portion size was generous. I ate it for next couple of days cold cause my fancy hotel had no microwave and I could not imagine tossing it. It was even good cold. I could have eaten here every night.
Lucky lunch
Got lucky without a reservation for a late lunch. I had the risotto Milanese and the carbonara which was full of flavor. Highly recommend. My mom had the bolognese which she couldn’t stop eating. Highly recommend getting a reservation even for middle of the week lunch. Would go again.
Yum!
Wonderful spot for a late lunch. We were lucky to get the last open table. Service was attentive and friendly. Garlic shrimp and meatball dishes were amazing!
Perfection
We were fortunate enough to get in no reservation, only two seats at the bar. Unique experience to watch only two chefs in a tiny kitchen turn out perfect food. Fried Calamari with cherry peppers was fantastic, we had chicken Parmesan & meat balls. Best we’ve ever had, will definitely be back next time.

Everything was wonderful as well as the service.

The noodles were perfectly cooked and had great texture (al denté but not too hard, just the right amount of chewy).we got the Sunday macaroni and the mushroom baked rigatoni. The meatballs and the beef with the Sunday macaroni were amazing. The sausage was decent. The mushrooms on the baked rigatoni were amazing though. The sauce was a bit subtle on flavor, but mixed really well with the sunday macaroni tomato sauce. I definitely recommend getting another pasta with a different sauce to mix it with :))Finally, I honestly really liked the bread that they gave at the beginning haha. The service and atmosphere were also incredible. They remembered our names and boxed our food to go, which were nice touches
Great Italian spot in the north end.
Made a reservation for two at 4pm and ordered the spicy shrimp, bronx, and carbonara. Everything tasted very fresh and the pasta had great texture. The place is very cozy and make sure you make a reservation on yelp beforehand!

Phenomenal.
Sat at the bar and watched the chefs prepare this incredible food. Just the bread blew me away. This was my fifth restaurant I attempted to eat at. It's my first time in Boston and I didn't have the forethought to make a reservation as just one person dining. Big mistake in the North End! Most places didn't have a bar, didn't have an open seat at the bar, and any sort of table was a three hour wait. When I asked the staff at the door of Carmelinas where I should go, Nick was kind enough to seat me at the bar right away. The energy here is great and every dish looked incredible. Just be sure to make a reservation! And leave a good tip for this very hard working staff.
