Delicious, authentic, reasonably priced.
Fun welcoming environment and excellent for take out. The grilled snapper is amazing. Great drink tip we learned from fellow-diners is to order the cocktails to go because the container holds more than two drinks! Enjoy
Be the first to ReplyThere should be lines out the door for Cane.
All day. Every day. Honestly, every plate was better than the next. - Jerk Wings - get em. - Doubles - slightly spicy, definite order. - Trini-Chinese Chicken - sweet, salty. Best plate on the table. - Oxtail - rich and flavorful. Would order again. Every meal in DC is $100+ and this is a place that I'd happily spend it every night of the week (granted I'd need a second, third and fourth job but worth it). Skip the cocktails and order more food.

Would be 5 stars if the girl cleaning the table next to me wasn't spraying all over my food. Couldn't finish my food because I didn't want to eat chemicals
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best restaurants in dc hands down.
Wings are insane. Everything great though.
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here with a friend.
The inside of the restaurant is small, casual, and cute. I like that the prices here are reasonable and don't break the bank. Jerk Wings - Favorite dish of the night. Super flavorful even without the dipping sauce. A must-have here. (5/5) Doubles - Tasty, flavorful, and a great price. My one complaint is that the roti was soft, soggy, and broke under the Channa. (4/5) Crispy Kale - Underwhelming. I would have liked the kitchen to mix in the pineapple chutney or make it a saucier consistency. It felt like ordering a salad that I had to dress myself but in a bowl that was too small. (3/5) Trini-Chinese Chicken - Nothing amazing, just crispy chicken thigh and oyster sauce. I wouldn't get it again. (3/5) Hops - Solid buttery dinner rolls. No complaints. (4/5) Hops Bread Pudding - Solid warm bread pudding. Ice cream would have elevated the dessert for me. (4/5)

After frequently passing by Cane, I decided to stop in for lunch, and I'm thrilled I did. Finding authentic Caribbean cuisine in DC has been a challenge, but Cane surpassed my expectations with its flavorful offerings. I particularly enjoyed the Herbivore dish. The ambiance at Cane is wonderfully laid-back, enhanced by the classic Caribbean music in the background. The service was impeccable, and I appreciated the opportunity to chat with my server at the bar while he crafted my drinks. My experience at Cane was delightful, and I'm excited to return.
Be the first to ReplyI was surprised by how small the interior of this place
I was surprised by how small the interior of this place was, given the size of its reputation. However, I came at an off hour and didn't have any difficulty finding a table. They do an online ordering by phone. I got a dhalpourie roti, which is a bread with lentils embedded in it made into a wrap. At the center of my wrap was a vaguely Indian-style chickpea and potato curry. Hot sauces came on the side. The sauces were powerful flavor hits, leaving me the choice of enjoying them or of trying to leave the mild but satisfying curry flavor intact. I ended up using quite a bit of the scotch bonnet pepper hot sauce, which was fantastic. I had questions about whether it would be worth just getting a single wrap, but that was one filling and delicious wrap. They do have some other vegetarian options, and I'm glad we have a quality Caribbean restaurant that does this. I couldn't imagine the wrap having been a whole lot tastier.

Just amazing! Food was excellent, every dish was crafted beautifully to meld flavors and styles. I loved the doubles! Service was good, although be reminde
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing! Especially the jerk wings.
The drinks, just as good if not better. Special shoutout to the bartender Ibukun for taking care of us. We will definitely be back soon.

Can't say enough about the flavor! Each and every dish we enjoyed was jammed packed with flavor every bite. We easily ordered via our phones from a provided QR code and the food arrived quickly after. The restaurant is cozy, so come early for a seat. Our favorite dish was by far the Medium Snapper even better dipped in their habanero sauce.

As a Trinidadian I know good authentic Trini food and this place definitely boosts authentic food, good service and excellent cocktails.

This place is as if you are on the islands eating red snapper; come here and you won't be sad! Actually, it'll make you the happiest person in Washington DC. The service and ambiance are 10/10 and I would recommend it to anyone who loves island food. We got the jerk wings, the red snapper is big enough to share for 2 people. We got dessert bread pudding is amazing. COME HERE- don't think!

Cane is a solid Caribbean spot to check out if you're in the H street area. The jerk wings are fantastic, and I highly recommend the Indian fried bread with spiced chickpeas. The staff was welcoming and offered us a ton of recommendations.

I sat at the bar and had the most wonderful little solo date experience at Cane. The service is super friendly, and employees are more than happy to talk about the menu and guide you through their favorites. I got the curried beef bowl, which was absolutely delicious and perfect portion size.

Saturday my husband and a few friends went to DC for the day and I am so glad we decided to try this spot! It's Caribbean/Indian fusion and everything was bussin. The doubles, beef, goat and jerk wings were super flavorful and the sauces were 10/10 because it balanced everything! Highly recommended but it is a very small spot so minimum about four people with your group of friends. I also think it's perfect for a date night or for a quick lunch with the family. They also do take-out so order online and have it delivered! You won't be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyAfter a long search, I finally found a place in the DMV
After a long search, I finally found a place in the DMV area that offers an ox tail menu. I visited during lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised to find a lunch menu available. I ordered the Jerk wings and ox tail bowl, and both dishes were incredibly delicious. The ox tail was cooked to perfection, and the flavors were outstanding. I was amazed to find such high-quality food in the DMV area, and I can't believe I never knew about this place before. I also tried the Sorrel drink, which was okay but didn't stand out as much as the food. Overall, I am thrilled to have discovered this hidden gem and will definitely be returning to try more dishes from their menu. If you're a fan of ox tail, this place is a must-visit. Ps. Tip system is kinda weird. You might need to ask about it
Be the first to Replyi went here the other day and the experience was so so.
I had the vegetarian bowl and my friend had chicken wings. My friend liked his order. Mine was decent but a very small portion for $16. It was really more of an appetizer portion. The most troubling thing was a 20% service charge, which was fairly galling particularly given that there wasn't really any service to speak of - just a single staffer for the whole restaurant who was a combination host/waiter/busboy. The whole experience was reminiscent of Bartaco - except Bartaco has a 0% service charge. Given the small portions, high prices and absurd service charge, I certainly not plan to return.
Be the first to ReplySo to start, we are fans of the St.
James. We couldn't get a reservation and the person on the phone recommended Cane. That is a problem. They are NOT the same. To start, it's tiny and doesn't take reservations. Luckily, some of our party arrived early and put us on the list. We sat down for about 10 mins before anyone came over so I ordered a drink online. My tab had to be closed out so the server could serve us. Strike 1. The place is pretty loud and only serves only the items that St James doesn't serve. Strike 2. My purple passion was warm although the glass had ice on top. I guess it wasn't shaken. My husband's island life was all juice on top all rum on bottom. Same issue. Strike 3. I ordered no food as I wasn't impressed by the menu. My family ordered the snapper, pepper pot and oxtail. They said it was very good which I'm happy to hear. As for me, I won't be back. Moral of the story: this is NOT a substitute for the St. James. Looking for basically a carry out with tables? Cool. Looking for ambiance? Pass.

Cane is a quaint Caribbean spot on H street that serves up some true tropical flavors. I stepped in for lunch and I was not disappointed at all. They have a QR code that you can order from and group your orders from the table which is super convenient. I however being the spoiled child that I am I wanted face to face service & Tim gave us undivided attention. I was able to order the snapper escovich that isn't on the lunch menu bit they were happy to accommodate! Yaaaay, cuz otherwise I would have fell out on the floor like a toddler kicking my legs if they said they couldn't serve it this early. So thanks chef! Lol. My friend enjoyed every bite of her oxtail bowl & she raved about the flavors. My snapper was crispy, spicy & delectable. Yummy! The drinks that Tim served up were on point & refreshing. I call him Spiderman because he will get you caught up in his web between the dranks & his swag. Lol. Everything was phenomenal. *Please be aware they charge a 20% wage fee which is not a "tip" but to offset the hourly wage??* So for that I took off 1 star because with this math I will be tipping 40% if I wanted to tip the server 20% as well. Which I did because the service was amazing! This restaurant is #BarbieApproved

Food is out of this world good ! A luscious array and variety of good stuff. Would highly recommend to everyone!
Be the first to ReplyYummy! Everything we tried on the menu was delish.
..we ordered every appetizer they had TWICE! The red snapper was great. The food service quickly and hot. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The drink soft drink and juice menu is limited but the alcohol drinks are good. There was a lot of activity and they seem to do great business (including take out). There isn't a lot of seating so prepare to wait when full.
Be the first to ReplyFood was delicious and relatively cheap.
They take 20% fee for dining-in, so if you want to save money - you can order a take out.
Be the first to ReplyI don't know why it took me so long to eat here.
The food is seriously so good. I don't think I've had Caribbean food before, and didn't expect it to have so many Indian-like flavors. If you like spicy food and/or vegetarian food, this place will make you happy. The eggplant, potatoes, cabbage, chickpeas, roti... all so flavorful. And then for meat eaters- the chicken wings tasted like the way a charcoal grill smells- but (again) spicy and delicious.A new favorite in DC! Love love love.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good.
We loved the wings, the roti and the Oxtail--though not traditional and on the sweet side. Service was challenging. It's a tight spot.
