Very good food!
This is the first time eatting Ethiopian food, our son has eaten here before and highly recommend the Cafe Romant, the food is excellent and the staff is very friendly.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome Food! This one of our favorite family outing
Food is delicious and so colorful, full of all kinds of exotic spices. The Veggie combo should be the base of your tray right on top of the Injera... oh yeah, it is communal eating at its best!... and then you add either the Kitfo (beef tartar with delicious buttery spicing) or any of the sauteed beef or mutton dishes. Combined with an eclectic atmosphere and the ever present aroma of fresh Ethiopian coffee (made the proper traditional way), Cafe Romanat creates a memorable experience for all your senses.
Be the first to ReplyLaid back, friendly, and delicious
We had the Veggie and Shiro combo and everything was delicious. The lettuce and cheesey sauce was refreshing, the white lentils were delicate but full of flavor, and the Shiro had a nice spicy kick. The atmosphere is cosy and calming, too.
Be the first to ReplyFast, Friendly Service
It's weird location facing Interstate on ramp belies the indoor atmosphere which buzzes with diners' talk, warm environment and friendly staff. We had the vegan combo plate for three. Although it was busy Friday night, service was friendly, unhurried and efficient. Our food arrived quickly, which lends to the thought that the portions may be pre-prepared. The food was salty and that is a drawback for us. We enjoyed ourselves.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Ethiopian, simple restaurant
There were not many customers at 7:30 pm Saturday, but some customers (as well as the staff) looked like they were originally from Ethiopia or nearby, so I take that as a sign that the food is authentic. The veggie and meat combo for two was $32, and very flavorful. The facility is rather basic, and not much to look at, but the food is the attraction here. Service was friendly.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting and lovely food!
I need to have Ethiopian food more often because I really love it. So far, this is my fourth try of this lovely cuisine since I moved to Oakland last year. Since 2016, I have tried Enssaro (Oakland), Lemat (Berkeley) and Massawa (San Fran) and had been really keen to try Cafe Romanat which is really close to our home. My cousin and I came here yesterday for dinner at about 8:30pm and place was half full, which is not bad for a Thursday night ;). Ample seating and beautiful interior decor makes me happy. The host promptly greeted us and gave us menus and water. We set our minds pretty quickly and shared: - fresh lemonade ($4) - veggie romanat salad ($8) - veggie combo platter for two ($28) Salad came first, followed by the combo platter which came with lots of injeera and last came lemonade (a tad late and we had to remind the host about it as she forgot). Service was relatively fast and super friendly. Menu has the right amount of options without being too much or too little and noticed they have lots of smoothies and fresh juices compared to the other places I have been to. Food was really good overall and portions were great - at the end we were really full. Injeera was so nice and soft and sour enough for my taste so I was thrilled - happy prego girl me! Pricewise I think they have done a good job apart from salads which I think are a bit overpriced. All in all, we paid 20$ each (excluding tip) which is not too bad and honestly we could have done without the salad for sure. Place is neat though they need to do better job in the bathroom as there was no soap at the end and the hand paper-towel was stuck. I look forward to come with my hubby and friends and try their meat combo and more from their menu :)
Be the first to ReplyGreat good
Excellent food but they try to get you to tip on top of the post tax price. Great good and beer. Service is decent, but nothing special
Be the first to ReplyGreat Ethiopian food
Great Ethiopian food! I always order the veggie set, and its consistently delicious. Try some of the local Ethiopian beers as well! The service is good and quick.
Be the first to ReplyReally good ethiopian food in calm, pleasant atmosphere
Nice food, well prepared. We love Ethiopian food, and there are lots of choices in Oakland. This is one of the best. The vegetarian combo is good, and family members have tried most of the beef and lamb options. Portions are good sized, and service is solid and unobtrusive. The environment is nice: airy and cozy at the same time. Quiet, unlike some places that have more of a club atmosphere. A little upscale compared to other Ethiopian. Pretty much our local favorite.
Be the first to ReplyBest mushroom tibs around!
Everything we have had on the menu here is outstanding but the mushroom tibs take the cake. They are neither spongy nor chewy, they are meaty and full of flavor. The injera is the perfect bend of sour and stretchy and soaks up all the flavor of the foods you are scooping up. The front window seats are great for people watching too!
