Give it a pass.
We've been to a Gordon Ramsey restaurant before. Yes, it's expensive but the food and experience are worth it. Not here. Sorry. Last time (in London) and this time we had the beef wellington. Here, it was good ( make not mistake) but it was only about 3/4 as good as in London. The wine was expensive and the whole experience left me wanting. The wall beside us was filthy. We told the manager and he acknowledged it was dirty, but, ah well... The table didn't even sit straight. We had to shim it. For the cost, it wasn't worth it.
Be the first to ReplyPrice not commensurate with quality and quantity
There was very little curry, at most a few pieces of chicken and about half a tablespoon of rice. Ribs were Ā£36, no fries, salad or anything, all had to be ordered separately. The food itself was tasty but not very special. The music was loud and the service was barely traceable. Except at the end when payment had to be made and a 12.5% tip was added of their own accord. Not polite, tipping must be voluntary and only justified if you have had really good service. Shame.

I was gifted a cocktail masterclass for my birthday and it was amazing! We spent just over 2 hours there and basically had a one-to-one with a staff member called Monica who was so fantastic, friendly and knowledgable. We learnt so much and had such a fun time, would definitely recommend.

Delicious butter chicken, variety of exquisite desserts, and a friendly staff. Calm during lunchtime. They have more than one menu, explore both.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing
The food is very disappointing. Difficult to believe that a chef as skilled and exacting as Gordon Ramsay would put his name to this place. The battered cod bites were doughy and oil clogged. The chicken burger was uncooked and the egg on top was stone cold. In contrast, the bun was burned. I was given the meal as a birthday present and so it was a shame that the food was literally inedible. The waitress was outstanding and she apologised and refunded us for Ā£10 for the fries and also gave my wife and I a free beer each. The quality of food is genuinely not as good as KFC or witherspoons and yet the price tag is far higher. Premier league price for Sunday league food. I couldnāt recommend the food to anyone but the staff were very pleasant and professional. Shame, as the ambience and location is excellent. I would avoid
Be the first to ReplyPoor service and unavailable items
It's just not all that. I had a large poke bowl which was ok - not enough sushi rice though and the smoked salmon extra wasn't available. In Scotland. The irony. My friend had the roasted cod which looked and tasted amazing. We both wanted the cheesecake for pudding but were told the advertised accompaniment of pistachio ice cream wasn't available. We didn't bother. The bill arrived, unrequested, whilst we still had full glasses of wine. When I challenged this I was told that perhaps I could put my card / our cards on top of the menu when we were ready. (it was 3 pm on a Sunday and about 1/3 occupied). Seriously. I won't be going back. I wish I'd gone to Dishoom next door.
Be the first to ReplyGreat whisky tasting experience with knowledgeable host Monika
I came for the Whisky Tasting experience with my dad. Iām a novice whisky taster and my dad is far more experienced but our host Monika expertly navigated the experience so that both us learned something new. We tasted 5 whiskys from around the world and learnt about their origins, had some lovely food and engaged in great conversation with Monika, who was friendly and very professional. We had a brilliant afternoon and would definely return here for a proper meal.

Found this place really average which is such a shame given how much we were looking forward to going. Restaurant was quite empty at tea time however felt quite rushed to get your order. Nicely presented but nothing special.
Be the first to ReplyIt's Alright...
We came here on a very wet Saturday afternoon for a birthday lunch for three, without any real idea what to expect. And it was...alright. We started with three Crab on Toast which was pleasant enough, but seemed to suffer from a real dearth of actual crab. There was plenty more to it, such as avocado, sesame seeds and a toasted brioche, but for Ā£12.00 a time you might have thought that the dish could have contained more than just a hint of what it was that you are after. To follow there was fish and chips which was pretty good: tempura style batter on the fish (which filled all the batter) and some lovely crispy chips. The mushy peas were a bit stodgy, but they were...alright. (I have had similarly good fish and chips elsewhere though) Prawn cocktail was up next in a classic 1970s dessert glass and a long spoon. Lots of avocado and greens, but again not a whole load of prawn. It tasted fine though, and there was not quite enough sauce which left lots of the romaine undressed. It wasn't generous for sure, and suffered from what I think might be the worst thing that a restaurant like this might hear: I've done better at this myself. The Caesar Salad was fine, but the star of the day was the fine green beans which were done in smoked almonds and shallots. That was actually really good. For dessert there was a Black Forest Cheesecake and some ice cream. Again, both were...alright. Drinks were 500ml of alright Chardonnay (which cam to a ludicrous Ā£29.00 - does anyone ever find out how they work out their costings?) and two double espressos that were more like semi-espressos, given how little coffee there was in the cup. Total bill for three - without everyone having a main or a dessert - was Ā£156.74. A 12.5% service charge is automatically included, and you do get the option of paying at the table via a QR code...but doing that costs Ā£1.49. Service was...alright...but they could at least leave water on the table as opposed to you having to wait for them to come around and pour it for you. I'm not sure it was worth 12.5% though. One thing that really got my goat though: as I was leaving I thanked the young woman standing at the reception area. She utterly looked through me and didn't even flinch. I am not expecting people to throw rose petals before me in servile gratitude for me bestowing my presence upon them, but I do expect some good manners. All in all it was...alright. I am pretty sure we won't be hurrying back. But it was alright.
Be the first to ReplyLovely meal, great service, brilliant time
Had a lovely meal at the Bread Kitchen, the staff were all really friendly and the service was brilliant. Special to our waitress Ellie, who looked after our group very well, we will be back.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it
Really excited to pop in. Bill came to Ā£100 plus for 2 x 2 course from the Spring menu. The wings and cod bites were nicely presented. It took a long time to order & also waiting on drinks took so long. The bar girl was too busy chatting to 2 friends for our entire time there which was opposite from the bar. At no point did she check if any drinks orders were needed. Ā£6 for bottled water yet all other tables had tap. Reasonable priced chardonnay and sauvingnon blanc from the cocktail menu. Weird taste off of the flaming passion cocktail after it was set alight. Mains, I had the chicken burger. It looked great on arriving at the table however it was very dry and tough to cut. Our fries were lukewarm. All the staff seemed distracted. One minute waiting tables, next minute out wiping front door. We were seated right in front of the chefs. They called service multiple times to which there was no real attentive staff so food sat there.. no personality from anyone waiting tables. It wasn't even remotely full. Dull personalities. I raised my issues when paying the bill and was told I should of called a staff member. I said no one really came to our table and staff were very hard to get hold of. Mum had the fish and it was the best.

At there for dinner on our last night in Edinburgh, after eating mostly in various places close to the Royal Mile and Old Town. Right on St. Andrews Square in more of the modern business district, which was a nice contrast from the smaller, more niche/tourist-focused spots near the Royal Mile. Crowd was a mix of tourists and business-types it seems. Food was good (steaks, chicken curry) with surprisingly reasonable pricing especially for the sides and smaller dishes.

Long waiting time for serving and ordering. We were four people - two of us got a starter. When the main courses came, the starters were still not cleaned up and we had to ask for new cutlery ourselves. The starters, "Wagyo meatballs in tomato sauce" and "fried cauliflower" were fine but not extraordinary. The main course consisting of fried cod, on the other hand, was super delicious and tasty. All in all, an ok experience but actually not impressed āļø š¤·

Iāve been to Bread Street Kitchen several times now and always tried something different from their menu and I must say I have never left disappointed! On my latest visit I had their Idiot Sandwich and I absolutely loved it. Iām glad that they used chef Ramsayās famous wit to create a fantastic menu. A big shout out to the managers Agatha and Irene for their professionalism and top notch service. Thank you!

Booked in for a cocktail masterclass with my husband- wasnāt too sure how it would be but absolutely delighted at how fun and informative it was. Monika was amazing, professional and had amazing patience. Please thank her.
Be the first to ReplyCocktail Master Class
My wife and I attended the cocktail master class with Monika, the day out was first class from start to finish. Monika was really knowledgeable and professional, she explained and taught the craft of making cocktails and made the experience really enjoyable. The session was excellent value for money, there was another couple taking part in the same class. The cocktails made were beautiful and each person got 3 cocktails each and some lovely bar nibbles afterwards. Iām glad we tried this and have taken some tips and techniques away for making our favourite drink at home. Thanks again to Monika for such a great experience.

Be the first to ReplyCocktail Masterclass
The cocktail masterclass is brilliant!! Our bartender for the evening was Monika who absolutely made our evening!! She was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, good fun and made us some epic drinks. The evening was a nice mixture of enjoying drinking cocktails and learning about making them too. Monika kept us right when we were creating our own cocktails which was a lot of fun! Included in the cocktail masterclass is some snacks from the menu - we had chicken wings, fries and crab on toast. The crab on toast is excellent, served with avocado it is so fresh and tasty. Great experience.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing food, hidden charges
Nice, modern space. Has a bit of class for a 'chain' restaurant. We visited at lunchtime and decided to take advantage of the special price lunch menu. A selection of starters were all good. Mains were variable quality. Sea bass good; chicken burger poor. The piece of chicken was small.and dried out. The rest of the content of the bun disappointing. Overall dry and tasteless. Worse, a side of chips at 5.99 is poor value. Lunchtime, so soft drinks. Good quality fevertree bottles means that the restaurant can charge an unnecessary premium price for something that doesn't need to be that quality eg. Soda and lime with pre-mix soda would be fine. Service was good. I was intrigued by the ability to pay at the table using a qr code displayed. In the payment screen I was first prompted to tip our server; fair enough...but I was already sure there was a 12.5% service included, so I checked and indeed there was. So the prompt to add a further 10 to 15% is poor by any stretch (pay your staff properly). Next, after completing payment, I noticed that I had been charged for using the at-table payment process (only something like Ā£1.75)...there was no advance notice of that cost on the table sign that suggests the process. And why would I pay for paying you. Final observation. Television screens showing excepts from one of Ramsey's TV shows where he is shouting at a woman chef and calling her an idiot sandwich isn't the self-promotion the restaurant thinks that it is. Poor taste and absolutely no need for that promotion in the restaurant. Maybe concentrate on the food more? For a number of reasons therefore, there are many better, cheaper and stylish places to eat in Edinburgh City centre so no need to go back to this one.
Be the first to ReplyCompletely overpriced lower than average food
We booked the restaurant to take my daughter out for her 18th birthday, the food was less than average and totally overpriced for what we received. Idiot sandwich was so small and basically like a toastie, chicken curry was tasty, but lacking in chicken - lucky if there was about 4 pieces of chicken, my daughter isn't a big eater, loves mac n cheese, so ordered 2 sides - mac n cheese was tasteless and really greasy - it's not difficult to make mac n cheese, I can make 100% better at home - really disappointing. Also I don't understand why restaurants ask if you are coming for a special occasion in advance, there was absolutely no mention from any of the waiting staff about it being my daughters 18th birthday - no happy birthday, no mention of it at all, no gesture, which is really disappointing - don't ask on your booking form if you are not going to make reference to it. Drinks are ridiculously over priced.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and food
Had a voucher from our Grandson to use for the set menu. Gentleman who greeted us and showed us to our table was excellent, he didn't have a name badge but was in a suit. The meal choice although limited was excellent although I don't agree with paying for sides to.make up a main course. Cannot fault the restaurant for service, cleanliness or food. Will return

Had the 3 course set menu . Food was excellent as was our previous visit . Service too was really good . Really enjoyed our night . Thanks to all .
Be the first to ReplyNot value for money
Really small portions for the amount you pay. The chicken curry was greasy and only about 6 pieces of chicken. The dish arrived with hardly anything in it. The kids meatball pasta was dry and tasted like it was days old. My son didnt eat most of the meatballs. Nice idea to offer kids food for free but Iād rather pay for a decent meal. The service was fine but the downstairs noise was overstimulating. Not relaxing to hear kitchen noises and clattering of plates, loud music and loads of noise from lots of tables and the bar. Was draining. Overall expected much more from Gordon Ramsey. Probably the poorest value for money in the whole of Edinburgh.
Be the first to ReplyGordon Ramsey - Pull your socks up...
Very average and expensive. Big fan of Gordon Ramsey but he needs to spend more time here. The experience probably wasnt helped by the fact the front of house was also the only waiter - and he really did his best with limited resources. For the money we spent on wine and food we could have had a fabolous meal at an independent.

Cocktail night was so good, drinks were absolutely amazing and made even better because of our wonderful bartender Monika!
