brat has a real WOW factor and is most definitely where you will find the young, hip crowd. It is a place to be seen, and the communal dining environment lends itself to that. Our table for two was a row of 4 or 5 double tables, which is great for eyeing what others have ordered but not so great for quiet conversation. The restaurant itself is located off the beaten path and really beautiful on the inside, in that hip, cool kind of way. Like the wonderful people who grace the UK, service was warm and gracious. The menu is interesting and there really does seem to be something for everyone. We shared - - Grilled bread and anchovy. Comes to the table as a beautiful, bulbous piece of bread that quickly deflates once you cut into it. There were 4 or so strips of anchovies on top, but I really would have loved some in the filling. - Spider Crab and tomato. My niece found this to be one of her favorite dishes at brat. Personally, I found the crab to be quite fishy but admittedly, it is not my favorite crustacean. If you love crab, order it. If not, perhaps a pass. - Fresh chorizo. You look at the photo I posted and you may say, heck, there's a lot of fat in that chorizo. Well, yes. It's fatty, incredibly tasty and wonderfully delicious. We loved it. - Langoustine. While we expected a small portion (it only costs 8 pounds!), there was so little meat it was a very disappointing dish. Particularly because the meat you did get was such a sweet treat. - Menai Oysters with tomato & seaweed. We ordered 4, I ate 1. My niece and I love oysters and I typically devour them. These were not our favorites. With that said, full transparency, I was not a fan of the oysters I ate in the UK. All good in that there were plenty of things I really did enjoy! - Lamb chops. We ordered two and they were absolutely perfectly cooked and delicious. If I were to go back to brat at some point I would likely order 2 of these chops for myself. - John Dory. I've heard of John Dory/St. Peter's fish for years, but never had the opportunity to order it. When I saw it on the menu I knew it was a must-have. Sorry for no photo, but it's not the prettiest fish ;) The fish is served whole and the easiest way to get to the meat is to lift the bone out (I didn't figure that out early enough in the process). The fish itself was utterly delicious and I now know that I love John Dory. With that said, even being a whole fish, just didn't seem like a heck of a lot of meat. I believe over the course of dinner we had a total of 4 glasses of wine. The total cost of our bill (tips are included) was $240.86, which I actually found quite reasonable. brat has oodles of positive reviews, so take mine for what it is worth. The food actually shines in its simplicity which is something I personally love as I'm not a big fan of hiding under too much sauce/gravy. For me, dishes were hit or miss. You may love it as many of its fans do.
