tasteless
I stay at Princess 2-3 times a year and loved Bourbon steak but on my most recent stay 3-8-24 something changed. They used to have the best charred/grilled oysters with red miso butter and was soo looking forward to them and they were horrible tasteless , and soo small like pea size. I tried their signature chicken but again tasteless. chicken was cooked nicely but..... I kept going back 3 nights in a row but it never got better. According to Manager chefs have been there for 5 years. What happened i'm not sure but want them to go back to being awesome

Worst expensive dinner ever. Salads were ok Rare steak was over cooked and dried out. I ordered the Maine lobster pot pie. Left 3 pieces of lobster to take home. Sent the crust and shells in a doggy bag. Manager essentially said I was lying!! For $500 go somewhere else! Never have complained and been treated this badly. Unfortunately we love this resort but won’t be back!!

Decided to have dinner at the bar on my own after meetings at the hotel. From the start the experience was top notch. Great opening cocktail, amazingly tasty complimentary duck fat fries trio to start, and a superb main course of Wagyu flat iron steak (medium rare to perfection). All the while guided to the best wine pairing by Alicia. Can’t wait to come back.

Save your money; it’s not worth it. I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience was so horrible I had to share it with other potential patrons because something needs to be said and hopefully fixed. So here goes… My parents live in the Phoenix area and wanted to plan something special for Christmas and to celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary. They got a reservation for Monday the 19th, and we were all looking forward to this place since my wife and I were arriving from the midwest. We know steakhouses and five-star experiences. This was barely a star. A dying star. Now, we are not idiots, and we are not cheap. I happen to know several restaurant critics from the LA Times to New York, USA Today, and much more. We know good wine, and we know good food. Often times I share my experiences over coffee with my critic friends to help with potential reviews and story ideas. And this one was…in the simplest way, HORRIBLE! For starters, there is no need to have bad 90’s techno music blaring throughout the restaurant. Save that for the hotel lobby or the bar. This was unacceptable; we couldn’t even have a conversation or even hear the waiter, who didn’t even seem like he wanted to be there and presented himself rudely after I kindly asked for it to be turned down so we could hear about the menu and wine. They never touched the volume. The sommelier deserves to be fired, bar none. I have never had a worse experience, and I was embarrassed for him and my family. For starters, all the wine was ridiculously overpriced. And it took over an hour and a half to settle with a mediocre bottle of Duck Horn. In all honesty, we wanted two other very expensive Merlots, but they were unavailable. I seriously doubt his wine knowledge because what type of place has a 53-page wine list but doesn’t know what they have on hand? Worse, what type of place doesn’t recommend a comparable wine instead of a simple grocery version. We actually joked about how my wife could’ve driven to BevMo, bought a bottle of Duck Horn, returned, and had it opened in the time that it took for the sommelier to figure out what he had. And the place wasn’t busy at all. The chef deserves to be fired as well. Rubbery cold steaks with dull steak knives greeted us. Followed by mediocre sides at best. Cold, salty, soggy Brussel sprouts, soupy mushrooms, and a tasteless potato. Anyone with basic culinary skills could’ve created better sides with recipes off the internet. Honestly, the chef must have had the night off, and the sous chefs didn’t care about what was going out of the kitchen. Even the chimichurri I ordered was weak. We all needed a few liters of water to deal with the tough cold meat and miserable sides. And quit trying to impress others with the water being served out of recycled milk bottles. That’s so 90’s shabby chic that it’s pathetic and dated. Be better. Due to the overall poor experience that basically ruined our evening, we wanted the whole nightmare to end, and the kicker was when the server told us that he was contractually ordered to ask us if we wanted dessert. What kind of service is this? And my 75-year-old mother joked, asking, ‘what planet are we on?’ All of us couldn’t wait to get the check, and we paid full price when we shouldn’t have, but we wanted to be gone! It would have been easier to stand at the valet and light $500 on fire. So disappointed as this place completely failed our expectations on so many levels. I would not recommend it and will never return.
Be the first to ReplyUpscale ad probably caters to business expense accounts
If I didn't have a Groupon, we never would have afforded dinner at this spot. It was absolutely lovely and our waiter was very accommodating and knew I didn't want to go over our allotted amount for dinner so he made good suggestions. We shared a salad that was lovely ($17) and each had a steak which was cooked to our perfection ($48 and $67) and I was glad the waiter told us that the sides were sharable as we got the mashed potatoes french style ($14) and some onions with balsamic ($14) that went perfectly with our meal. Hubby had a spicy crust added to his steak ($9) and we each had a delicious dessert ($14) each. We watched tables over tableside smoked old fashioneds ($95 per drink) and could tell they didn't know each other well so we assumed business dinner. You could really rack up a bill pretty quickly if you add alcohol and go into the more expensive cuts of meat.

Are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin….. We have been staying in Scottsdale for the past week with my in laws who have been coming here for the past 20 years and therefore have visited many of the restaurants in the area but until last night never this one. We were all really looking forward to this! We were shown to our table and the first red flag was the TV screens in the restaurant showing the football. This is not acceptable in such a ‘high class restaurant’. We agree with other reviews that the wine list was ridiculously overpriced. We eventually decided on a bottle of red that was brought out by the Sommelier. Well, I use that title in the loosest term. I seriously doubt his wine knowledge especially when we questioned the chilled temperature of the Rioja reserva that we tasted to be told that ‘all the wine is chilled at the same temperature!’ Because we were not prepared to pay hundreds of dollars for a mediocre bottle of Cune Rioja reserva, we decided to just have a glass of wine with our meal but with that we couldn’t have the wine that we wanted and ended up with very average/poor glass of red. When my husband was trying to explain what we liked he was basically told to stop talking. To cut a long story very short the Sommelier tried to sell us a way overpriced bottle of wine and then stormed off in a strop when we tried it and said that it wasn’t good enough. He was downright rude! Now for the food. My husband and I both had the filet mignon which was lovely and perfectly cooked. My father in law had the prime rib that was chewy and tasteless. We needed a few litres of water to counteract the saltiness of the Brussel sprout side dish! Due to the overall poor experience that basically ruined our evening we were not happy to accept the full bill. Fair dues to the restaurant that we had 50% taken off our bill. When preparing to leave my husband noticed a guy (obviously a member of staff) watching us and politely wished him a good evening. He didn’t respond and just stood there. Again, just rude! But then it’s gets better. When questioned by my husband he said, and I quote ‘ I don’t need to say anything to you’ and basically frogmarched him out of the restaurant. Unbelievable! In all fairness the front of house guy ( the one who spent time in the UK playing tennis) and our waiter ( the one with the infectious laugh!) were both great. So disappointed as this place completely failed our expectations on so many levels. Would not recommend and will never return.
Be the first to ReplyThis center of culinary excellence is far from your typical overpriced resort steakhouse.
Wow, if I could’ve rated the service double the amount of stars I would have! Our server Hailey and the rest of the support staff were phenomenal. It’s always a little questionable walking into a finer dining establishment with a 9yo child because you’re never quite sure how the staff will handle waiting on a child due to their usual clientele. In our experience this evening, he was the primary focus of the table, above equal and not just an “extra”. The preparation of the food was only exceeded by the quality of the ingredients. Ambiance was very relaxing yet not stuffy. Well worth the final bill.
Be the first to ReplyArrogant service
The food was mediocre. Overpriced wine list. Arrogant and indifferent service. Management doesn’t care. Why bother ?
Be the first to ReplyOver priced overrated
Oysters had been shucked hours ago, dried edges. Wine is ridiculously over priced, $36.00 a glass, Far Niente isn’t that good.

Excellent salad and steak, their Basque cheesecake was disappointingly textured. Wait staff attentive and helpful, some of the crowd raucous and well lubricated.
Be the first to ReplyDinner with a Friend
Wanted somewhere nice in Scottsdale to go to dinner with a friend. We settled on Bourbon Steak in the Fairmont Princess hotel. We were NOT disappointed. We had reservations & were seated promptly. MAKE SURE you ask to sit on the patio!! LOVELY!! Service the entire evening was impeccable!! Each table gets a trio of fires when they arrive. Fresh cut fried, cooked in DUCK FAT, each with a different topping (truffle oil, garlic & parm etc) and each with a different aioli. They were AMAZING!! We had the yellowtail sashimi for a starter, the harvest salad with pear & goat cheese, followed by filet mignon & glazed brussel sprouts. Dessert was a slice of hummingbird cake. OH MY was it tasty!! We wanted to lick the plates after everything...but refrained :) I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND Bourbon Steak, but be prepared...it is very pricy.
Be the first to ReplyPricey but worth it.
This was our best meal of the trip. The steak was excellent, as were the appetizers and desserts. The sommelier did a great job recommending the wine. Great place for a special meal.
