🤢 2/5 - Sneaky hidden fees for mediocrity

This is a new-ish place trying to catch the wave of breweries turned expensive eating. Here’s the worst part: they have hidden fees and don’t include tax in the price. When breweries in Chicago, the city of 100 breweries, does this it’s nothing more than a money grab. Let me explain what I just experienced. I ordered a beer listed at $6 called the Unspoken Rule. The bill comes back at $6.75. What was not listed on the beer menu OR explained to me was a 2% employee insurance tax to every purchase! WTF! Why am I not told about this BEFORE I pay?! Why am i paying for their insurance? I want everyone to have healthcare but bring up this charge FIRST. The customer should not directly be paying for employee insurance.
Also, while not including tax on the drink price isn’t unheard of it’s not common. In Chicago that’s 10.25%. Add the 2% insurance fee, tax, and tip and your bill is almost 33% higher than the list price! Adding to that the beer was basic. Why pay premium cost for nothing special?
I didn’t eat so I can’t speak to that. I’m a local and will NOT come back. If you’re reading this go next door or down the street if you don’t want to get ripped off. There’s a Revolution Brewery Tap Room about 5 min drive away (they don’t serve food but you can’t bring your own or have something delivered).
Summary: want a $10 beer with tea in it you can get anywhere? Go here. You want a better experience for your money, go somewhere else.
