Try their specials
firstly, didn't think the reception did a good job of placing us. We went to Lemon Grass as we had heard it was excellent. We did not have a reservation and we were pretty casual. I am not sure if Lemon Grass was full or they just assumed we wanted to dine casually but they just took us to Bistro Elephant which is connected to Lemon Grass. I only realized halfway through the meal that Lemon Grass has a great wine list and they must have assumed I wouldn't be drinking that much. I probably would have dropped several hundred dollars on wine as I am an avid wine drinker and they had some great older vintages. This is where stereotyping people based on their attire loses money for restaurants. Good restaurants never make that mistake as when people want to spend money, good restaurants certainly oblige.
Anyways we were still thrilled with the setting of Bistro Elephant. They have live music playing outside but then they had recorded music inside which kinda blocked out the live music. We were really excited with all the Thai dishes. Unfortunately, these dishes were not that good. They had a huge amount of daily specials so I would go with these. We had this mini crab tempura which was so good...we actually had 2 orders. The other specials sounded yummy and fresh so go with these. They have an insane beer, wine and scotch list for a bistro (since you can order wines off the Lemon Grass wine list). Service was friendly but there were so many special, the waiter went so quickly through them I could even hear them.
Good casual dining but eat their specials!
Disappointing
We have been frequent visitors to Bistro Elephant, mostly for the awesome live music, but our most recent visits have been disappointing. We paid $12 each for lemon drop martinis with average vodka. Each martini was not a full glass and was tasted very bland. We’ll continue to visit because of the music, but their drinks are too expensive and not worth it.

While this is consistently one of the better restaurants in Syracuse, we had a waiter who was less than great. First he asked us over and over if we were ready to order, then when we were ready he was nowhere to be seen. After hearing the waiter at the next table recite the specials, we noticed that our waiter had omitted the appetizer special and had given less of a description of each dish than the other waiter. Once we finished eating, our plates sat in front of us for a good 10 minutes. Finally the waiter returned and brought the dessert menu. He then proceeded to bring our check, never asking if we wanted any drinks, etc after dinner. Even when the food is good, the service makes or breaks the evening.

This is an exquisite place in Syracuse and it shows from the decor, to the menu options and the staff and service. Anything in the menu is guaranteed to be excellent. We had ribeye steak, fillet mignon, duck al orange, sea bass, and Thai dishes. Appetizers are also perfect. The sauces are above all. The desserts are pieces of art. This and it’s sister restaurant Lemon Grass are number 1 in Syracuse.

Excellent food and service. Sat at bar and were able to be cozy and fun with my baby. Ordered a pasta special and salad to share. Martini's were yummy.

It's a nicely decorated place....period.
Not what I expected for such an attractive place, but are we over-priced for the atmosphere?
Himalayan Mango Cashew something....and it consisted of thin chicken breast slices, onions, cashews....a nice sauce....onions.....a side of rice....onions..... red peppers pods...but nothing of the 'hot and spicy' description and certainly no Mango. Seems that the Cashews in this dish are known as "Mango Cashews." My bad. But for $25....knowing food costs as I do, there was the realization that the dish was over-priced and under flavored.
I'm not one to complain too much but honestly, I'd never care to go back here and give it another try. If you're on an expense account then go for it. But this is not a place for a family to expect a meal that will impress everyone for the final check total.
The service was close to a 1.5 as the waiter was just plain poor in his efforts.
Birthday Dinner
We ate here for my sons 17th birthday during a college visit. We sat in the bistro on Sat. night and there was a small band that was great and added to the ambiance. It has an eclectic menu of steak, fish and Thai food. My boys all had steak with a house sauce that was amazing. I had the Thai hot pot with shrimp and it was delicious.

Sister restaurant to The Lemon Grass you can expect the same level of service and cuisine. The menu is more eclectic than Lemongrass with steaks as their feature. The restaurant is perfect for a romantic dinner as it is tucked away in the breezeway between Walton and Jefferson streets. Once the warm weather returns outside seating is available and is a splendid way to enjoy the summer.
