Trivia: True or False, their website gives a detailed history of their establishment in Chicago. (The answer might surprise you). We stopped by for drinks on a Monday and it was packed. They were accommodating and said we could grab a drink at the bar and sit in the couches and chairs in the front. Amazing ambiance. When I waited a little (and I do mean little) extra at the downstairs bar, the bartender made it up by pouring a little extra in my Macallan 25 Sherry Cask. A superb and chill evening with friends in an awesome environment. And maybe I should t be surprised, but within moments of being inside, I had no idea there was a busy, bustling, city just a wall away. It was calm and chill.
We found Bavette's through yelp.
We went there for our anniversary and this place is one of the best fine dining places I've gone to. The ambience and aesthetic is incredible. Our waitress was so professional. She had great recommendations. Her name was Danielle. We started with beef tartar, which came with toasted sourdough. Then we had the wedge salad. For dinner we had cream of spinach on the side and the fried chicken. I've never had a better fried chicken in my entire life. It was incredible, juicy and seasoned to perfection. It was served with mashed potatoes and gravy. I loved that it was not salty. Let me tell you about dessert. It was incredible. You just gotta pick your own poison yourself. Our experience was incredible. I'm hoping to be able to go there Sunday before we fly out on Monday. Reservations are highly recommended.
Visiting from California.
Never been to this location. Came here on a Thursday for dinner with a few friends. The place was packed for a weekday. Highly recommend making reservations and even with reservations we will had to wait. Ambiance was date night lounge chic kinda feel. It's dark inside, but romantic. They sat us on the lower level which was perfect since we did have a toddler with us. It was a lot quieter than upstairs and less crowded. Our server was amazing! He was very accommodating seeing that we had a toddler with us. I order the ribeye and fries. Steak was amazing! Cooked to how I wanted! Melt in your mouth and delicious. It was honestly a very good size for the price and quality. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the sides here. Mac cheese and Brussels sprouts so good! Dessert we ordered the apple pie! Boy it didn't disappoint!!!! It was huge and delicious! Perfect crust and the ice cream to top it off was decadent. Get the martini! Drinks a must! Strong and yummy! We enjoyed our experience and not once did we felt rushed. Definitely will be back!

Just wow honestly some of the best food I've ever had in my 24 years of living. Service was amazing, the servers were on point every single time no misses. The ambiance was nicely dimmed and welcoming!

The best burger of my life! Server was awesome- she paid
The best burger of my life! Server was awesome- she paid attention to food allergies thoroughly. We enjoyed her taking a few extra minutes to chat during the course of our meal.
I've heard wonderful things about this steakhouse for years.
My husband and I decided to finally make it happen. With a newborn and a 3 1/2 year-old. Brave? Insane? Maybe both. The restaurant was sure to let us know ahead of time that they allow children, but do not provide special seating for them. Not a problem for us but don't expect a high chair. They did store our stroller without too many eye rolls though. The location itself was really cool - a great date night spot with gorgeous booths and dim lighting. I got one of the mocktails and found it to be absolutely delicious. Speaking of delicious...the food was stellar. Definitely the best steak we've had in the city. The sides were also delicious. Do not skip the sourdough. We started with the appetizer of goat cheese - I thought it was OK. We got the dry aged bone in ribeye and it was flavorful and had the perfect crust! Ours was cooked to a true medium rare and I love the steak salt that came with it. For sides we ordered pretty much everything... truffle mac & cheese was good (but I prefer the mac & cheese at Maple and Ash). We got the mashed potatoes and I loved them so much. I would definitely get them again. Also the mushrooms. Those were amazing, especially when dipped in the mashed potatoes. The creamed spinach was good, although the blue cheese spin was not for me. For dessert, they totally got me with coffee chip and salted caramel ice cream. Both are from a local location an hour outside of Chicago and this was probably some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Paired with a very delicious hot fudge sauce, we finished the meal on a high note.
Service waa excellent.
Downstairs way too dark and freezing. NY strip was chewy but management graciously comped it. Ribeye mostly fat so only got a few bites. Small selection of meats without bones. Sourdough bread the best part of the meal. Corn and mushrooms sides were very tasty. Ended with chocolate cream pie.
The salads were the best part of the dinner.
Went with two friends. Our salads were wonderful and the atmosphere was great, but the steak and sides were a bit of a let down. I would not go back again.
Almost Perfect
The Hits: The steaks are cooked perfectly, the roasted chicken is very tasty, and the sourdough bread is truly exceptional. The service team is a major asset—very friendly and efficient. The Miss: The branzino was a letdown and didn't match the quality of the other dishes.
5 Star Across The Board
My wife, son and I dined at Bavette's Bar and Boeuf the other night and were blown away by the experience. The exceptional ambience of the dimly lit downstairs dining room, courtesy and professionalism of the maitre de and the unsurpassed steak entrees were just 5 star across the board. Don't miss if you visit Chicago. Highly recommend.
Always fantastic
Love Bavette’s! It’s been a go-to for birthdays an anniversaries for years now. We haven’t been back since before COVID due to relocating outside of the city, but came back recently and was very happy to see everything was still great. Great service and food. I believe our servers name was Natalia and she was very sweet and attentive. Highly recommend.
A Wonderful Dining Experience!
My Dad and I joined friends for dinner at Bavette's and the experience did not disappoint. From the moment we entered, we were well taken care of. We were seated promptly with our reservation in a booth with good view of the dining room. The martinis started flowing and the good times continued. The starters and salads were delicious and well timed. I ordered steak and thoroughly enjoyed each and every bite. It was prepared to perfection. If you are looking for a quality experience from start to finish, check out Bavette's Bar & Boeuf!
Good but a little disappointing
My husband went online the second reservations opened up for the day we wanted to eat here. In the time it took for him to complete reservations, he lost three time slots. (He is not THAT slow on his phone, so this place gets booked crazy fast.) We got reservations for 4:30pm on the day we wanted and organized our day around this. It was a nice place with good decor, and our server, Erik, was great, but in general, we have had better experiences at less sought-after places. My dinner, ribeye steak frittes was decent: my steak was great but the fries were not. My husband asked for a bone-in New York strip medium rare + and it came back more rare than my medium rare ribeye. The waiter didn't even need to be asked to have it cooked more; he took a look at it and said "that's not medium rare plus" and whisked it away. It (or another steak) came back, only marginally more cooked. The waiter questioned whether it was acceptable; my husband did kept it this time, but he did not really enjoy it. As a birthday treat, I got a scoop of vanilla ice cream and Erik let me substitute the chocolate sauce for caramel. It was fantastic. My husband got the chocolate creme pie, which he found too dense (though I think he was cranky from his steak). Our service was outstanding, and most of my food was, as well. My husband just didn't have a good food experience and given the hype, he was disappointed.
Best dinner ever and worth every penny!
We usually prefer dives over fancy places. However, sometimes you just have to make an exception. We almost didn't go here as this isn't our kind of place at all but this is our big vacation this year and sometimes you just have to say F it. This steakhouse was recommended to us from a friend of mine who lives in the Chicago area. The reviews on trip advisor were off the charts and after being here I couldn't agree more. This place blew our minds. Amazing seafood, steak, desert and quite possibly the best old fashioned I've ever had. We had crab stuffed avocado salad to start. I had filet mignon and Michael had a ribeye. I had the best chianti with my steak. The server brought over the bottle so I could note the name and then gave me the rest in my glass. Desert was the best Lemon meringue I've EVER had (sorry Grandma). Amazing staff, fantastic ambiance with light jazz playing softly in the background. Eat, drink and do not look at the bill, just give the awesome server your credit card and enjoy the amazing feels. Holy moly this was one for the books. Thank you Bavette's Bar & Boeuf for the meal of our lives. We WILL be back.
Really great restaurant, lovely location and very helpful and friendly staff
It’s not cheap but it’s totally worth it. The waitstaff is full of friendly advice and we didn’t put a foot wrong on portions and sides and the food and wine was just amazing. We spent Easter Sunday here and everything was spot on - highly recommended!
Worse experience
Terrible, long wait, rude receptionist , very disrespectful. I am very disappointed, would not go again. Acted like they wanted us to leave
Excellent Experience!
I knew it would be difficult, if not impossible, to get in for dinner. Since I was solo, I opted for the bar. You can't obtain and probably won't want a reservation for one anyway. The first night, I lingered by the main floor bar; but it wasn't looking like I'd ever get a spot. I came back the 2nd night (a Saturday) and stood by the stairs heading down to the basement parlor. I was able to snag a single seat after watching several people leave. I had two cocktails, a ribeye, and a baked potato. The steak was amazing! It had a nice char on the exterior and was buttery smooth inside; I ordered it rare. The bearnaise sauce really enhanced the steak. Overall, it was excellent! Be aware that the basement parlor is very dark, so if that bothers you, you might want to sit on the main floor. I just wanted to try the restaruant based on all the reviews. It didn't disappoint! Next time my wife is with me, I want to take her there to share the experience.
10/10!!! Everyone raves about this place and it definitely
10/10!!! Everyone raves about this place and it definitely lives up to the hype. The steak was incredible and the sides were delicious. The creamed spinach was my favorite. Our server was excellent and guided us through the menu. It was my birthday and I got a salted caramel ice cream with hot fudge to go with it. I look forward to coming back
Top class steaks and cocktails
High quality and tasty steak. Nice atmosphere if a little dark inside. Tasty cocktails and good wines. A draft beer option would be a great addition. Really enjoyed visiting and will definitely go back.
Our favorite restaurant in Chicago by far! The best
Our favorite restaurant in Chicago by far! The best Brussels you'll eat in your life. So good you could eat them as a meal! We got them as our appetizer. Also the Mac and cheese, spiced chicken were on point. The darkness of the ambiance makes Bavette's so romantic. The service is always great too!
One of the best shoots in Chicago.
All the dishes were amazing! The handmade sourdough is one of the best!
Best Steakhouse
10 years living in Chicago, at least 15 visits to Bavette’s and it’s always been the best steakhouse in Chicago. Excellent cuts, great service, and incredible atmosphere. Can’t go wrong with their sides or seafood tower but the Dry Aged meats are phenomenal. If you’re looking for a good steakhouse in Chicago, this is where to go.
Food was good, ambiance was great.
Our server was MIA a lot of the time. It took forever to get our bill when we were clearly done for a while. A bit over priced for the quality in my opinion.

First time here, the food, the service and vibe were simply amazing. Really enjoyed our experience here
10/10 best steakhouse.
Get the bone in rib-eye and the truffle Mac and you won't go wrong. Service was phenomenal and from the hostess to the every waiter.

We wanted a romantic night out with some great food so we decided to try this restaurant. I wouldn't say they were super romantic romantic. It is a very nice ambience inside however, it's very loud and the tables are very close together. It's not as intimate as I hoped it would be. If you're looking for a more romantic restaurant, I suggest you tried their sister restaurant Ciccio Mio next door. We ordered quite a bit of food for two people and left with a ton of leftovers. We got the fried chicken, which is a huge plate of three chicken breasts. It was delicious. We also ordered the mac & cheese the sourdough bread (which is gigantic) and the Chicago cut ribeye. I was in my favorite thing was the fried chicken. We also got the chocolate cake and a side of ice cream which was the perfect pairing. Since the restaurant is so loud and there's a lot of hustle and bustle the service was a little weird. I feel that our server was coming over it very scattered and random times. Overall, our experience was good
Host staff were very rude and dismissive.
Walked in to 3 of them talking. Had to get their attention and ask if I came in the correct door. They said yes and Told me to go in. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to seat myself or go to bar. Come back out to ask and host said condescendingly that I can sit at the bar, which was obviously packed and she could see that.
A Chicago Dining Gem
Bavette's Bar & Boeuf is a gem in Chicago's dining scene! The vintage ambiance with dim lighting and classic decor creates a cozy and sophisticated atmosphere. The steak is phenomenal, cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The sides and desserts are equally impressive, especially the truffle mac & cheese and chocolate cream pie. The cocktails are expertly crafted, and the service is attentive and friendly. Perfect for a special night out or a romantic dinner. Highly recommend!

Wow ! What a treat ! Ddsjdj did Jen jsndbdnd I do not want to write additional words ... the place it excellent
Had to write another review bc of how much we love Bavettes.
We are never let down when we come here. The service is superb, the food is delicious, we have the best time whenever we come here. This time, we tried the salmon crudo and it is very good. I also tried the short rib stroganoff for the first time and it might be my new favorite dish. They brought out 2 sundaes w candles for both me and my husband's bdays. They just do it right every time and we appreciate it so much!
RATED ONE OF THE BEST STEAKHOUSES IN THE WORLD - and I agree!
I can definitely see why it was rated one of the best steakhouses in the world. It was AMAZING! But they have so many awesome dishes - try the Wagyu burger, fried chicken and beef stroganoff, too. EVERYTHING was amazing! Great staff and service, too! HIGHLY recommended!
Try the Bone Marrow!
Good service and great food. Tried the oysters, bone marrow, filet mignon and ribeye. The bone marrow’s out of the world and a must-try! Overall experience was good and certainly made our 11 hour layover in Chicago worth it!
Food was amazing, great crust and seasoning on steak.
Mashed potatoes were great. Really nice service and vibes of the restaurant as well!
Bavette’s 💥💥💥
Great reviews, from friends and acquaintances, drew us to Babette’s. Needless to say, it lived up to all the hype or I wouldn’t bother wring a review. Our reservation was at 3:15pm - because we were 2 days late on making a reservation based on their 21 day reservation cycle. The Japanese whisky old fashioned was unique and smooth (I’d try that again), and the Champaign Smash (gin / Champaign…) was just as good. We ordered sourdough bread and butter in addition to shrimp scampi and a wedge salad as appetizers. The shrimp were BIG, buttery and HOT. The mains were aged NY Strip and filet mignon with truffle mac & cheese and roasted brussels sprouts. The steaks were cooked to perfection based on our varied request. The brussels sprouts were good, but the mac & cheese may have been the best I’ve ever tried - creamy, not too savory. Dessert consisted of chocolate pie with cream. The semi-sweet cream offset the rich, dark chocolate pie, and a cappuccino only enhanced it all. I’d definitely eat here again.
The food and service were absolutely amazing! The chocolate
The food and service were absolutely amazing! The chocolate pie for desert was not too heavy but just right. This is worth the hype. I was a little upset to learn about the corkage fee changing to a normal price instead of sharing a glass with someone. Either way It was divine and I'll be back!
It's a good steakhouse but not mind blowing.
The only fault in the night was that they cooked the New York Strip wagyu to rare when it should have better medium rare. It's hard to tell with the dark lighting, so you need to use your phone to check when your food comes out. Also, you have to salt your own steak. This is a place where you have seasoning salt at your table, and you have to salt each piece after you cut it. I personally used a lot of salt, so you may need to ask for more. Sizzling Shrimp Scampi - $25.99 - You get 6 maybe U-10 size shrimp with 4 giant pieces of garlic bread. Is this worth $25.99? Probably not. The shrimp is good, the sauce is good, and the bread is just okay. The bread needs to be dipped into the sauce to make it tasty, don't try to eat it plain. It's good, but you may want to try another dish. 4/5 stars. Classic Ribeye Chicago Cut 16oz - $74.99 - My steak was cooked perfectly with a good crust. I just didn't realize that there are steakhouses that make you salt your own steak. You need a lot of the salt to make it tasty. The bearnaise was kinda plain. 4.5/5 stars. Bone In New York Strip - $109.99 - This one was not cooked to medium rare. When I tried it, I noticed something was wrong, and that's when I used my phone to check the cook. Flavor wise, I thought my ribeye was better. 4/5 stars. Creamed Spinach - $15.99 - I didn't really notice the blue cheese, so if that makes you hesitant, don't worry about it. It's good but very cheesy. 5/5 stars. Elote Style Corn - $14.99 - This is not made with tajin, so there's no chemical taste. Real chili and lime flavor. This was my favorite side dish. 5/5 stars. Truffle Mac & Cheese - $15.99 - Good flavor and okay portion. The waitress said it was the most popular side dish. It's decent, but it still wasn't anything special. It's a fine choice if you want pasta. 5/5 stars. We thought the sides were better than the steak. The steaks are fine, but you really need a lot of salt to get good flavor out of it. For the price, you could definitely go elsewhere and get the same flavor. Service is good. Atmosphere was romantic.
Bavette's Bar & Boeuf in Chicago is a culinary masterpiece
Bavette's Bar & Boeuf in Chicago is a culinary masterpiece that left me speechless. From the moment you walk in, you're transported to a bygone era of glamour and sophistication. The menu is a celebration of classic steakhouse fare, with a modern twist. I started with the shrimp cocktail, which was perfectly cooked and served with a tangy cocktail sauce. For my main course, I indulged in the dry-aged ribeye, and it was a revelation. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare, the steak was tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The ambiance at Bavette's is unparalleled. The dim lighting, plush leather booths, and vintage decor create an atmosphere that is both elegant and inviting. The service was also exceptional, with attentive staff who anticipated my every need. While Bavette's is on the pricier side, the experience is well worth it. It's the perfect spot for a special occasion or a memorable night out.
I'm not sure how anyone could not give Bavette's a 5-star
I'm not sure how anyone could not give Bavette's a 5-star rating. Between the food, the drinks, the ambiance, and the service, there's not much they can improve on. It's only my 2nd time here and I have no idea why I don't come here more often. Probably the difficulty in getting a table during normal dinner hrs. Our reservation was for 3:45pm and I'm actually glad it was so early. I was still full at 1am. I can't imagine eating that any later. So worth it though
Everything about this place was great.
Would rate 10 stars if I could from the service to the food. Obed was great and even made some great recommendations.

Went for my birthday dinner and everything was top notch, from the food to the service and everything in between. The seafood was amazing paired with their steaks. I got the punch and really liked that drink! Will be a long time customer.

Bavette's was such a vibe! We came for our birthday and the entire restaurant made us feel so special. I wish I could remember the name of our waitress because she was such a ray of light. I would want to come back and request her all the time if I lived in Chicago. The restaurant was stunning inside, giving you a taste of what Chicago looked like in the past. The restaurant was perfect for an intimate dinner with you and a few friends, and the food was *chef's kiss*! Everything came out piping hot, flavorful, and in decent portions --by the time we left I was thankful that I had a long coat to cover my belly I ordered the Petite Duchess Cut Filet Mignon, which was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. I love that it came with béarnaise sauce bc that's my jam! I knew what I wanted and it satisfied my red meat craving. We also ordered the truffle Mac and cheese which was the perfect mix of creamy, savory, and filling. The elote was good too but next time we'll def try the buttery mashed potatoes. My friend ordered the spiced fried chicken and it was so good but at that point, I was already so full. Great place to celebrate something special or gather with friends. Will def be stopping by again our next time in Chicago or Vegas.
The food here was delicious.
Sad I hadn't made it here sooner. Had a ribeye steak shared sides fries, whipped mash, and their Mac n cheese. I must say the fries were so good with the steak. Also had well made margaritas. Ambiance is dark romantic, loud, and elegant all at once. I sat downstairs which was a little more calm than upstairs on a Friday night. Recommendation for reservations is 21 days before you need to go. This will guarantee you a spot almost always.
The food was fantastic and the service was excellent.
The only complaint I had was that it was noisy. It was very busy and the tables are close together. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal as well as the hostess and the server. I will go back.
Superb.
Great atmosphere and setting .Amazing mixologists, fantastic food and good value . Highly recommended. Central Chicago . I would suggest making a reservation in advance, particularly at the weekend or close to the weekend .
Great atmosphere, even better food!
Loved the drinks, atmosphere and food! The wedge salad is the best wedge we’ve ever had. Homemade ranch dressing with fresh herbs, peppercorns and bacon. The bacon was thick, more like pork belly, with an excellent flavor. I had the bone-in filet and my husband had the rib eye. The filet was better in our opinion. If you’re a fan of mushrooms, order them! They come with French fried onions served on top. The food is very rich so just know that going in. It was fabulous on a blustery, cold Chicago Friday night. Can’t wait to go back!
Favorite Dinner Spot in the City!
Bavette's never disappoints! The food and drinks are incredible and consistently on point. Some of our favorites and not to be missed: Bacon, Wedge Salad, French Dip, Short Rib Stroganoff, Truffle Mac & Cheese, and of course the steaks are delicious and always cooked to perfection. Our favorite drinks are the Bavette's Punch and Tokyo Old Fashioned, although you can't go wrong as they're all well-made and balanced.
