Barrafina London Reviews from The Last Year
Came here for dinner on the first night of my most recent
Came here for dinner on the first night of my most recent trip with Mom! I made a res in advance but got there earlier around 5:30 and was able to still get seats, though it was away from the counter where you could typically see them making the food. We ordered the potatas bravas, seafood rice, ham & cheese croquettes, and lamb special. Really enjoyed the croquettes and seafood rice. So flavorful and cooked well. The potatas bravas had too much sauce to my liking and made the potatoes soggy if you didn't eat them fast enough. The lamb was fine but nothing spectacular. Enjoyed the ambiance a lot - kinda like a homey counter style diner except they serve Spanish tapas. Service was friendly.
My coworker and I made a reservation for this Barrafina
My coworker and I made a reservation for this Barrafina (note there are multiple locations) and we're so glad we did. With limited seating this place was packed. We enjoyed a few of the tapas and thought everything was good if not great. I'd share some recommendations but the menu is constantly changing with what's fresh for the season. By the way service by Charlie was great in a very hectic space.
very yummy
Insanely delicious food, and worth the high price tag. Service was fairly quick, one complaint would be that my husband and I were not served our meals at the same time, so we had to take turns watching each other eat.
What can I say about this place, except everything! We came
What can I say about this place, except everything! We came here for my birthday dinner while in London. Our service was amazing, our server really went above and beyond. She gave us recommendations, which were all top notch. We had multiple plates, which were all outstanding. We had no complaints over the food or service. I like the only bar seating, because you get to watch the magic happening of the chefs. This is a must go to restaurant if you are ever in London. Definitely would make reservations to go and come with an empty stomach!
excellent tapas choice in soho
Nice decor inside with a great atmosphere, you get a real sense of professionalism from the service to passion for food and quality. Squid croquettes, prawn & pepper tortilla and potato bravas were all amazing, delicious and absolute quality. Service & staff excellent, prices for some dishes on the expensive side but you are paying for quality. Fantastic specials menu too. Very enjoyable lunch overall.
Food decent, but prices quite steep
We waited about 30 minutes for a seat at the counter as reservations are not possible, but that didn't bother us. On the other hand, the price for a relatively small glass of sangria with a large ice cube was, in our opinion, very high at around GBP 10. The food later was very good and the staff were friendly, if very stressed. The bill was quite high, however, as the price of some tapas is negatively out of line, even if you base it on London prices.
Grilled Octopus
Great spot but very ££££££’ I really enjoyed the grilled octopus at the location near the Strand in London but I’m at the location in Soho and got a completely different dish which was very disappointing at £24.50. I am in the catering business and know the food cost was probably £4.00 on this dish and feel ripped off.
Recently visited the Covent Garden location "on a whim" as
Recently visited the Covent Garden location "on a whim" as I was strolling while my wife was shopping and remembered reading really good things about Barrafina. I can comfortably say "don't waste your time or money". I didn't have a reservation as I was rudely informed that I should have by the (British) hostess. The vibe was so unauthentic from the wait staff who knew very little about Spanish tapas to the music and most notably, the ridiculously high prices for very average tapas.
A high-level informal dinner
High standard restaurant. It doesn't take reservations but we waited for a short time with a good glass of wine. The Pluma Iberica is one of the best dishes I have ever tasted and the accompanying sauce is fantastic. Compliments to the Chefs and the service!
Overpriced and awful staff
I visited the Dean Street branch with my partner for our anniversary and we used a voucher that we had been given as a gift. We had never been before and were looking forward to visiting but we were so disappointed with the experience and the waitress that served us was unbelievably rude. We were asked about 5 times within 5 minutes of walking in the door what we wanted. It felt like we were in a fast food restaurant and we were an inconvenience because we wanted some time to consider what we wanted to order. The whole experience was impersonal, cold and the dishes were thrown down on the table without explaining what the food was. We used a voucher and it was explained that we had to use it all in one transaction which I didn't realise so we ordered two more glasses of wine and used the balance. Following this, we were approached by staff suggesting that we use the remainder of the bill towards purchasing a bottle of wine to bring home with us. In other words, get out because we need the table so we couldn't enjoy the glass of wine and drank it quickly. We felt we were rushed out the door and they wanted the table clear as people were waiting. We were only in the restaurant for a total of 1 hour 10 minutes so we were hardly overstaying our welcome. Overall, a completely woeful experience, overpriced and horribly unfriendly.
Awful place and impolite staff
the service was terrible. The waiters were really rude and impatient. They are acting in the most impolite way possible. They were forced to leave our seats because we haven’t eaten enough! Also, waited in the queue for more than an hour. Never recommend this place!
Great food, terrible staff.
This is usually my favourite restaurant but the staff this time made it so unpleasant. We waited for 40 min for an outside table just for them to tell us 5 min before 9pm that we can’t sit there as it closes at 9pm. Had we known in advance, we would not have wasted our night waiting here. The staff were rude and completely not understanding about why we were frustrated. Such a shame as the food is amazing, only for it to be spoiled by awful staff.
10/10
Love it here! The food is great, and the perfect place for tapas in London. Love the peppers, omelette and potatas bravas. Service is always great too.
Amazing
It's rare to find a restaurant this good. We had high expectations but we were blown away by the quality and standard of the food along with the theatrical atmosphere that getting a front row seat to the chefs brings. All of the food was delicious, great choice of vegetarian dishes. Highlights were the tuna and the classic tortilla. The fennel salad was unusual and not something I would usually order, but was one of the best salads I have had. We picked the Santiago tart for the dessert was which again delicious. Worth noting that seats here are all stool seats only, so may not be suitable for people with mobility/back issues. Do not miss out on a chance to eat here!
Highly recommend this place.
Everything we had was absolutely fantastic. I don't even know what we ordered because we used the recommendations from our waiter and he didn't steer us wrong. I can't remember what type of fish but it was the whole fish and comfortably fed 2 of us. We were very pleased with everything we had. Definitely order about 5 things to share so you can try more items.
We were in London for 9 days and this was one of the best
We were in London for 9 days and this was one of the best meals we had. I took the advice of another reader and ordered a couple daily specials. We went to the Adelaide Street location (it's down the block from an area where they were giving out free food to homeless people). Not the best location with so many homeless walking around. They didn't bother us. Just be warned. - jambon iberico (9/10) - special- crab croquettes (7/10)- crab was too mushy - special- red millet friture- (10/10)- outstanding - pan con tomate (9/10) - fully covered in yummy tomatoes - gambas rojas (10/10) - the best and sweetest shrimp we have ever had in our lives - arroz con mariscos- (8/10)- very good but not outstanding -milk fed kidney and pork cheek (6/10)- the cheeks were enormous and we were full. A little dry) We will definitely be back.
