Soo delicious.
My friend and I stopped in on Sunday night and shared the ultimate nest and veggie combo. We were soo full afterwards and really enjoyed everything. The food came out very quickly.
Be the first to ReplyWe ordered take out and it was packaged really well.
We live near golden gate park in SF so had a long drive home but everything was still warm when we got there. They have the spongiest injera I've ever tasted, it was amazing! The veggie curries were all so good as well!

Super cute niche place! When we walked in, the restaurant was a little empty --which was honestly surprising considering how good the food was. I loved the plates, because you could try a little bit of everything. Service was good too :)

I've been wanting to try Ethiopian food for quite a while, and had virtually no expectations going in. All I knew was that they were known for their meat & veggie platter where you grab pieces with the rolled injera bread. We arrived on a Friday night and there were already a lot of people inside, but were able to get seated right away.Between the three of us we decided to get one of the meat and veggie ultimate combo as well as an order of the meat samosa. The samosas came out first and were piping hot and filled with a ground beef mixture. It was crispy and delicious! The combo platter was huge, and so much more food than I expected. We couldn't finish it all even between all three of us. Every individual dish was really unique and to be honest I wasn't entirely sure what they all were. Though, I think my favorites were the spicy beef, veggies, and lentils. The injera rolled bread tasted like sourdough, but really soft. I enjoyed trying each of the individual items, though it did get a little tiring after a while since I think my palette is just not used to these types of flavors.Overall, this was certainly a unique experience and I'm glad to have been able to try something new!

Such a wonderful spot with warm hearted staff and impressive looking and tasting classic Ethiopian dishes. They are very generous with their house made Injera which is needed to grab and sop up the amazing dishes.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Ethiopian food, all reasonably priced.
I always order their delish 3-way meat combo. So glad they're on Telegraph in Oakland. Not fancy, but soooo good & all reasonably priced.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on V-day for dinner.
I was really excited because it has been about a good year since I've last had Ethiopian cuisine. Perusing the menu, to start, we ordered the vegetarian samosa for apps and honey wine since I haven't had it before. Fermented honey? I'm curious! It was really yummy. As it went down my throat, it had a nice thick coating, yes, like honey! and fermented. It was perfectly sweet like honey and I drank it up. The samosa was so crispy and crunchy with the flavorful lentils and garlic inside. I loved putting the hot sauce on it to make it spicy. For our main entrees, we ordered the shiro combo (ground chickpeas simmered with fresh garlic) and the siga wot (cubes of beef). With the injeera bread and all flavors mixed together, it was such a delicious meal, I had to order a coke to wash it all down. Everything would have been perfect and we would have even ordered a baklava with tea or coffee for dessert but there was only one server, who was catering to all the patrons in the restaurant and he was actually running to get to the next patron or dish in the back. To ask something from him felt like I had to just say it when I caught his eye. Overall, I had a great meal and I'm definitely returning for more spicy dishes on a less busy day.
Be the first to ReplyTo be clear: I do not live in California.
I don't live in the same time zone, even. Despite this, I have been to Barcote probably 5 times in the last year.I visit family in town a few times a year and I always make it a point to get some takeout from Barcote because it's SO good. The Ethiopian I've had elsewhere has been good, but Barcote is REALLY good. I generally get the veggie combo with a side of buticha, and honestly, the buticha is what I dream about when I'm not in CA.

Came here for pickup as vegetarians and got a meal for four with tons of variety. Everything was amazing, particularly the Misir Wot. The food tasted well spiced and authentic. The pickup was easy and on time.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, excellent service, beautiful outdoor patio.
Meat samosas were fantastic. Veggie and meat combo was great. Ethiopian coffee was a strong, dark roast, similar to an espresso. Also learned they are family owned!

I love Ethiopian food with all the different flavors, tastes and textures. We don't get to enjoy Ethiopian food enough and we ordered the meat and veggie ultimate platter along with the shrimp tibs and the beef tibs. We started with the meat samosas which were delicious-crispy outside and filled with a flavorful ground meat mix inside. Loved the hot sauce it was served with. When our food came, it was beautiful!! Our platter of food was served with a large basket of injera. Barcote's injera is not too sour and complemented the food well. Plus, it's perfect for soaking up the sauces. We enjoyed all the food and polished everything off!! I'd love to come back!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food! One of my favorite Ethiopian restaurants.
I love to get the veggie combo and the kitfo. I'm a regular!!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible Ethiopian food.
Made for a few meals of amazing leftovers, too. As an extra bonus, we got to watch a bunch of guys trying to tow a fire truck!
Be the first to ReplyI've been coming to Barcote for about 4 years now.
.. this is a long overdue review! I get the same thing every single time: veggie combo with gluten free injera. Sometimes I'll add on a side of buticha. Their veggie combo never disappoints. It's cooked to perfection. Same with the injera. I have since moved out of oakland and I make sure to come back to Barcote every time I'm back in the area. Best ethiopian food I've ever had!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, friendly staff & quick service.
Clean bathrooms. I love the fish option which I have not found at many other Ethiopian restaurants. Not a big fan of the salmon dish felt like canned salmon. We go here very time we are in the area.

The Barcote team makes consistently delicious dishes! We order from here twice a month on average... and each time we order a few days worth of food since we live out of town. Highly recommended!

HIGHLY recommend! I love Ethiopian food and I'm so glad I found this place, it is excellent. Get the tibs (any kind - I had the lamb, hot and delicious) and the veggie platter. Bring a friend! Cute outdoor dining area, great location. If you like Ethiopian food, you should eat here for sure. Plenty of extra injira for a messy fellow like me.
Be the first to ReplyExquisite good.
Authentic. Overall a good Ethiopian spot ย at a good price. Service can improve maybe a ย smidge but regardless I come back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is fantastic however even better is the service.
I have taken all of my friends and most of my family to Barcote. Always reliable for good in every sense. Not a single off day in these many years, this place.
Be the first to ReplyWould have given zero stars if I could.
ย Dishonest owners Hailu and his wife! After giving me the wrong pick up order, then promising a full refund, they are now denying it. ย So very disappointing! Without a doubt the worst experience I ever had at any restaurant.
