Ayara Thai Cuisine Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year

Only takeout pretty much now but still one of the best Thai restaurants in Los Angeles.
Ordered via UberEats after a late flight arrival.
Pad Thai was greasy, fried rice was bland. I asked delivery person if chopsticks or fork was in the bag. He didn't know. No utensils or napkins or soy sauce included. Won't be ordering from here again.
If you can avoid this place, do.
Nothing to call home about. Flavors are very bland. Overall, really bad. All the vegetables taste rancid, look old and brown. I will not be coming back. Reply to owner: broccoli taste was off the top was brown Whatever green leaves are in the food we're very brown and tasted sour Curry was extremely salty Protein tasted like it had been refrigerated and reheated Other than saltiness, there was no depth to the flavors. I only had a couple veggies. It was just bad, really. Swan Thai in PV is like the standard. I was hoping to get that, but locally.
The service and atmosphere was really exceptional here.
From the moment I walked in I was impressed that they had won a Michelin award. The friend tofu was so different than I have ever had, lightly battered in tofu and soft on the inside with delicious sauce. Our hostess Jade was really bubbly and very helpful with deciding on the many options through the menu. Mike was also very attentive and asked us how our food was and was very friendly. The Radna was a large portion and chicken pad Thai my boyfriend ordered looked so good I ordered a vegan version to go. Wonderful time.
Hey Yelp, it's me again to come talk about Ayara Thai.
Me and my boyfriend have ventured around the menu and have gone to a few of the special events this restaurant and family put together, and I want to talk about it in an updated review that's not as focused on the Tom Kha (which is still amazing, by the way). The service staff treat us like family every single time we come in, and they know us by name. We have the best conversations with Jade, Patty, Ploy, and we've also had great conversations with Chef Vanda and Chef Cathy. These folks want their guests to have a great time, and that's honestly why we come back just about every week for dine in or takeout. The food: Appetizers-wise we've had almost every one they offer. We enjoy most the Thai beef jerky, the wings, veggie rolls, and I cannot brag enough about their fried tofu. They use a different coating for the tofu that you don't get at other places, and the texture is amazing. I've also enjoyed the shrimp butterfly. Their duck laab and minced laab is a big hit for us. We've had both at various spice levels, and we've had minced laab with both the pork and chicken options. The flavor in this dish is this savory heat that is elevated by the lime, a freshness from basil and mint, and the texture from the laab powder brings it all together. Our favorite spice level is around the medium/spicy level, but I've had both at very spicy and it's also good (though the spice doesn't play at that level!). We've enjoyed the glass noodle salad for similar reasons. It's a similar (but not the same) flavor profile, but just a few different ingredients. The glass noodles bring a different fun texture. I could probably eat a kitchen-sized amount of this and never get bored. The papaya salad is also great. We've had their drunken noodles and rad na. We prefer the drunken noodle dish. I think we prefer it due to the flavor of the tomatoes in the drunken noodle dish. We've had almost every vegetable dish they serve. We enjoyed the Chinese broccoli and Brussels sprouts and cauliflower dishes most - I'm a sucker for crispy pork belly, so definitely recommend that as your added protein! Every curry is good. I'm not exaggerating. You can't go wrong with any of them. Their wok dishes are fun, but our favorite is spicy basil with either crispy pork belly or chicken. Patty recommended to us to have this with crispy pork belly and a fried egg with a little bit of chili fish sauce (that they can bring to your table). I'm now hooked and need a fried egg and chili fish sauce on everything in my personal life. Get the chocolate passion fruit dessert. All the desserts are great, but you gotta get that one. Events-wise, they really put a lot of love and thought into every special event they put together. If you ever get the opportunity to get a reservation for one of their events, do it! Speaking of reservations- this place is loved a lot, so make a reservation if you are coming in the afternoon or evening (especially on a weekend). You may have some luck on Wednesday or Thursday nights with a walk in.
It's 5:08 pm.
Only 7 people in the restaurant on a Saturday. Do we have reservations? Really? Next seating 7:30 pm. We avoided this place for years after some really bad attitude from a manager. We decided to give it another try. Never again!!!
We walk into the restaurant.
.. NO greeting whatsoever. He then asks if I have a reservation, I say no, mind you there was only 2 tables with 5 customers. He said the next seating would be at 730..what a joke!!! Stay away!!!

Don't go to Ayara if you don't have a reservation, they won't seat you even if all their tables are open. They won't even try to work with you... Thanks for being the only good Thai food place in Westchester who doesn't appreciate the locals. Edit: When you respond with paragraphs, it only confirms my experience. I grew up in L.A. and have NEVER had a problem getting into any restaurant without a reservation. Accommodating walk-ins IS L.A. Thanks Ayara..
After coming here one time, I've came back like 10 times.
Best Thai food I've ever had. Also very affordable price from $15-25 a meal. Also previous Michelin star says it all!

Lunch special for $20 included a small plate (I got the chicken wings) and a large entree (I got pad see ew) and a drink (I got thai tea). Take out only for lunch but you can eat inside. Dinner full service after 5 PM. Wings were a bit small but flavorful with the sauce. Pad see ew was mediocre was lacking some flavor in my opinion. Thai tea was amazing and made fresh in house daily with non dairy. I gave this place a 4 star because the lunch combo price and value for what you get, food was decent. I may have ordered dishes that aren't their best as I've noticed pad see ew has been different across thai restaurants.

Horrible customer service. Greedy with their plate portions. Would not recommend. Save your money and go elsewhere. $
BE AWARE! Food is good, Service & major cleanliness issue / Dirty tables
Good Food / Dirty tables & patio / Poor Service. BE AWARE of the details: We were not aware that its a "to go" only venue during the day with them allowing to sit outside on a dirty patio and dirty tables dirty and never cleaned. Only at night you can sit inside. And when you get your food during the day, its packaged "To Go" even if you sit outside on their messy / dirty patio. Worst of all, you can not use the restroom as the door is locked to get in during the day. I wasn't even aware they could deny use of facilities in LA! The young man at the order counter is not polite and seems to not want to be there.
The Best!!!
We were staying at an airport hotel and found this place on TA. It was AWESOME. So good that I wish I had bought a noodle dish to eat on the plane the next day. We arrived at 5:45 pm and all but one table was full. There are about 12 tables. It is a small place. Jade was our server and she was friendly and welcoming. Food was served hot and delicious. We had a noodle salad, a curry and the eggplant. Highly recommend.
Very busy but worth the wait
Found this restaurant on Eater LA list of recommended places to eat around LAX. We strongly agree. When we arrived about 7:30 many people were hovering outside the small restaurant. We were added to the list and provided our cell number and told it was about an hour wait for a table. We returned after an hour to check and our table had just opened up. The server was very nice and explained the dishes (standard thai menu) and mentioned they have been open for 18 years. There were tables outside however I think the restaurant was short staffed that night and unable to provide service there. We shared a Pad Thai and a wide noodle dish in a nice rich dark broth. Also a green papaya salad. We were given the choice of mild, medium, or spice on all the dishes. They had a small, fun, kind of obscure, selection of wines on the list. The pours were a little small on the glasses. We were excited to see a real margarita on the list too so we ordered that as well. Everything was fantastic and just what we were looking for (except for the wait). Will definitely return the next time I'm need of an LAX area meal.
Lunch is a rip-off
We chose this place because of the high rating, but were unaware of the lunch situation. You have to sit outside on folding chairs, use disposable utensils, not get served water or iced tea refills, have to ask to go into their empty restaurant to use the restrooms and have so-so food. There is no price reduction for this fall-off in service either. We won’t ever be back for lunch and will seriously consider even dinner.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
