One of the BEST Ethiopia restaurants that I have ever had
One of the BEST Ethiopia restaurants that I have ever had away from home. Been coming here for years and I never get tired of it. It is family-owned, super affordable, and the location makes it super convenient. If you are looking for some traditional cuisine in the West LA area, don't hesitate to check out Awash!

We had the BEST meal and the most authentic experience at what is now one of my favorite restaurants in LA!! Don't be fooled by going to fancier Ethiopian spots...this is the real deal, and the owner oversees everything!

This is a DOWN HOME Ethiopian restaurant! Very run down, hole in the wall decor. It adds to the charm. Not sure why people commented on the wait. We were served quickly & efficiently by a very friendly server. FOOD WAS SO GOOD. We both got the veggie combo & spice tea. Huge portions (which a ate all of thank you very much), tasty & fresh. $50 including tip! Most affordable meal I've had in LA in a long time

While I'm somewhat new to Los Angeles, I must say this was the best Ethiopian food I've had this far. The waitress was very kind, there is convenient parking and the service was fast. Only thing I might suggest is that the spinach be served warm. We actually got a side of lentils because it was so delicious!

Be the first to ReplyThey have the best Ethiopian food in the city hands down.
Their food authenticity is an experience you've got to try to believe ...

Full house in a Tuesday night! An indicator that it's good and it was. Prices are phenomenal and quantity. The potato dish was a bit bland but so far this is my favorite spot just based on price alone.
Be the first to ReplyGood family energy.
Loved the presentation. Some of the veggies had a lil heavy seasoning but overall I would come back.

Looks like a little whole in the wall! But let me tell you "The Food was Delicious!!!" My first time will not be my last that's for sure! The staff are very gracious and the wait wasn't long at all! Yummy, is all I have to say! You have to try it!
Be the first to ReplyWe came here on Father's Day.
To our surprise it wasn't busy . Maybe like 4 other families there. We were referred by someone. Let me start by saying the food was good! But other than that it was terrible. Customer service was horrible. Felt like we couldn't get there attention and didn't check in with us very much. We waited over an hour for our food. We ordered the Combination plate and Vegan platter for a family of 5. There was families coming in after us and they were very attentive to them and they all got there food before us!!! I don't want to say it was a race thing I hope it wasn't. But we were the only non Ethiopian family in there. Everyone else was Ethiopian. So I don't know if that has something to do with it. But we felt very discriminated. It left a bad impression and we won't be going back.

Such delicious Ethiopian food - I was craving Ethiopian and being in LA for a short amount of time, I had to visit the little Ethiopia area. I got the vegetable combo after consuming a ton of meat via Korean bbq the day prior. All of the veggies were well seasoned, and my favorite were the lentils in a reddish sauce. Such great flavors and textures, and the server was also very friendly. If I had the stomach room, I would definitely try the Beef Tibs too, they definitely smelled delicious from the next table over. My only tips would be that service is ~not~ the fastest, so factor in around 20 mins if you're coming during dinner time. It's also a bit hard to see on the inside so it's a little easy to miss it on the street.

Best Ethiopian food in Los Angeles! I've visited Ethiopia a couple of times and honestly, Awash in LA is still by far the best Ethiopian food I've ever had. Anyone who complains about time waiting for food here doesn't know the culture. Yes, sometimes the wait time is a little long but it's ALWAYS worth the wait, and it's a family-owned business, making me appreciate the whole experience even more. The kitchen needs that time to put extra LOVE into the food.
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere, delicious food, kind wait staff.
Had the Awash tibs and vegetable platter.

I enjoyed every bite!! I've had this place bookmarked for the longest time and very glad I finally tried here (IYKYK, it's incredibly hard to get to and out from mid city from SGV)! Also, a first for me trying Ethiopian cuisine. Went with my friend nearby who is also a big eater like me and so we over ordered, haha! The menu here looked new to us, but pictures from Yelp and the simple menu was very helpful! Their Awash special beef tibbs is good and a familiar dish but the Awaze chicken tibbs cooked in their awaze sauce is quite aromatic, mild spicy, and so good! We also asked for the vegetarian combo because it was colorful and, indeed, was fun to eat. Something about using your fingers and digging in just makes food taste even better. The way to eat, I think, is grab a piece of injera (almost like a tortilla, but better!) and wrap your vege or protein and eat! The portions are big and fulfilling, and is fair for the price. We got there a little just after opening, but people were already trickling in and picking up to go orders! It was a one waitress team at the time and understandable for the wait. Parking situation - luckily found street meter right up front, but I noticed there was meter spots also around the corner down the block. My taste buds were tickled by the spices and helped make the food addictive! Definitely a new food experience. Looking forward to coming back for just good food!
Be the first to ReplyAlways great here.
Awash was my first intro to Ethiopian food and I truly enjoy coming back every time I'm in town.
Be the first to ReplyOur experience at Awash was pretty rocky.
Got there super excited to try Ethiopian food but was greeted with less than enthusiastic service - we were immediately told the wait would be 1.5 hrs... it felt as though they were rushing us out. We decided to stay and requested assistance in selecting a spicy meal. We received the food and it wasn't spicy nor flavorful. I enjoyed the veggies and injera. I think I expected a little more. It was okay
Be the first to ReplyQuaint Ethiopian restaurant located on Pico.
There are a plethora of Ethiopian restaurants on Fairfax but this one is by itself. That's ballsy. I like it. There's an Indian and Spices restaurant AND store next to Awash which is a plus for shopping and browsing afterwards. This restaurant was recommended by a friend of Eritrean descent. Overall it's a one waitress for whole restaurant type of deal. So if you're looking for "fast" good luck. Ethiopian food isn't a fast food. It takes about 20 mins on the fast side. I waited about 20 mins for one take out order. Take that into account. I would be hesitant to come with a group larger than 2 during dinner because it seems like it would be hard to wait it out. -1 star because I felt like I should've gotten 2 pieces of injera as opposed to one for a huge order of Kitfo. I still had kitfo left and no injera for scooping lol. They take card/cash. Try to pay cash bcus it's a small business.
Be the first to ReplyI was referred here from a patient of mine .
... To begin with - we had to wait 45-50 minutes for our food. In their defense, they did tell us that the wait time would long so that's honestly what saved them from a two star rating. The actual injera was good ... it's not our first time eating east african cuisine so we knew what to expect. We ordered Tibbs and we were not pleased. We asked for it to be Made spicy (they had 45 minutes so there was plenty of time) and they said they would. Flavor was underwhelming. Was really looking forward to giving them a great review.
Be the first to ReplyWe sat down and ordered our food at 5:30 p.
m. and it still hadn't arrived after over an hour. It wasn't particularly busy with only two other groups there who hadn't been served. I'm fairly certain the patrons at the bar area were served first so if you do decide to come consider going there. For us it was a frustrating experience, because we were waiting and trying to accommodate a smaller restaurant that may need more time, but once we ordered it was difficult to flag them down for any updates since there was only one waitress and she was busy attending the other large group and going back and forth to the kitchen. I can't comment on the food since we paid for our drinks and left since it felt like we were being ignored. I recognize it's a small mom and pop star but it's frankly unacceptable to wait that long for a veggie platter, especially with no communication.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this restaurant.
Super chill vibe. Casually got dinner here with some friends and we were served quickly. Waitress was very kind and polite. Totally recommend it!

I've been going to Awash now for a couple of years and it is my go to for Ethiopian food. I love it so much that I drive from San Pedro for takeout. Dining in is fine too. They give you huge portions, the food is always fresh, and the aromas are exquisite! The waitress is so friendly and she works so hard. She is always welcoming!
