Really disappointing.
Couldn't do the most basic food. Flavorless vegetable fried rice -- essentially white rice with bit of confetti vegetables and slight coloring. Chicken with broccoli was eatable but barely -- thin, off putting flavor, tasted of smoky spice and little else. Vegetarian spring rolls had no vegetables, just fried dough with a few strings inside. Would never order from them again.
Be the first to ReplyI heard about Atlas having moved to the UWS.
We ordered tonite and it was not good. Pricey for what we got and not good. The ribs were mostly bone and overcooked. way too$$ for what we got. The chicken dish had over cooked chicken in it. I would perhaps try it in person but never order again. I need a good Chnese restaurant for ordering and THIS IS NOT IT.

Great spot for some authentic Chinese food! We went for a Saturday dinner and it was pretty empty. Must be because it's very uptown but I'd go out of my way to come here again. We got the walnut prawns, yang chow fried rice and the chicken soup. The prawns were big and perfectly sweet and crispy. The fried rice really hit the spot and was well balanced. The soup was just ok though. There wasn't that depth of flavor that I was looking for. The ambiance is also super cute so it's good for a nice dinner.
Be the first to ReplyWhat worked: The order was ready in time.
What didn't work: Hot and Sour Soup - Other than the fact that it was hot, it bore no resemblance to any hot and sour soup we've ever had. Dan Dan Noodles - There certainly were noodles, but that's the extent of the similarity to this well-known dish. Not good at all. Spinach with Sesame Seeds - Popeye would not have eaten it. Most of what we got is now in the New York City sewer system. Sorry to say, very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyMy roommate and I live close by so we eat here a lot.
We came in September and my roommate ordered the most delicious pork and green pepper dish. I asked her what it was a few days later because I was craving it and she couldn't remember what it was called. We have since ordered every pork dish on the menu trying to find it and we can't! I've even gone in and described it to the employees who all don't recognize it. The mystery dish haunts us.

I recently dined there and tried the Pork with sweet and sour sauce 锅包肉. To my surprise, the dish was unexpectedly sweet, lacking the anticipated sour element. The thin pork slices inside were quite bland. The waiter informed us that the sourness should come from the tomato sauce, but our order resembled a dessert with its predominant sweetness, leaving us uncertain if this was the intended taste.

Sleek midcentury decor is the ideal setting for 2 culinary genres: new age Hunan inspired mainland cuisine and "American Chinese" style dishes. The first is best appreciated by connoisseurs, the latter by anyone who loves Chinese food. The icing on the...scallion pancake is the incredible wine list by the glass and bottle. Pretty rare combo of delights.
Be the first to ReplyI order from here extremely frequently.
Probably one of my favorite places for authentic Sichuan style cuisine. Everything is flavorful and addictive. Not gonna lie, it IS a bit salty so expect to swell a little the next morning and wake up super thirsty (if you have it for dinner) but it's worth all the flavors. My go to are Mapo tofu, braised fish, chicken feet and chicken wings.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, reasonably priced (especially for NYC prices).
Service was good. Nice, cozy atmosphere. If you're in the Upper West Side, particularly within the Columbia University area and need a fix of good Szechuan food, give this spot a shot. You won't be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyIn my mind, Atlas Kitchen can do no wrong.
I've been here 4 times and left very happy (and full) every time. The interior is clean and relatively spacious. Prices are very fair too! Some of my menu standouts: Crispy Whole Fish w/ Green Pepper: A must-order for me. The fish is very flavorful throughout and the meat inside is so tender. Yum! Sautéed Sliced Beef w/ Cilantro: This dish has been served to me hot and cold. When it's cold, its incredible- so refreshing and light! Sautéed Eggplant w/ Salted Egg Yolk: Incredible and so flavorful!! The savory egg yolk paired with the soft eggplant... Wow.. Braised Fish Fillet w/ Chinese Sauerkraut: Great for sharing and the tart flavor really comes out! This was a bit spicier than I expected but tolerable.
Be the first to ReplyAuthentic Chinese food from mid south China.
Stinky tofu is not really stinky though... Fish dishes are quite fresh. Recommend if you can tolerate spicy food
Be the first to ReplyI loved everything here.
Highly recommend family style. The tofu was flavored so well, as with the eggplant & chicken dish. Also loved the rice pudding with the eight delicacies! Perfect way to end off the meal. A little more upscale than your average Chinese restaurant so a little more pricy, but very clean and calm energy!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely a place where you can keep visiting.
Delicious food! Really enjoyed the spicy wood ear and scallion pancakes. Definitely ordered more than I could eat so there were lots of left overs. Service was great. Not to loud - more of a quiet vibe. Enjoyed and would return for sure.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed dinner at Atlas Kitchen on Thursday evening.
A place where you can return over and over to explore the large and distinct menu, which is likely filled with many gems.Quality: Atlas Kitchen has an authentic, but modern feel to it. The menu is extensive nearly everything sounded delicious. They have a section dedicated towards Americanized Chinese food, but much of the menu is inventive twists on unique items. We started with the Scallion Pancake, which was a nice crispy appetizer. Then we ordered two entrees, the Sautéed Eggplant W/ Salted Egg Yolk and the Sliced Eye Of Round Beef W/ Peppers & Peanuts. The Eggplant had a great texture, but it was extremely salty and desperately needed a sauce. The Round Beef was delicious, but be warned, even if you don't feel the heat immediately, it will catch up with you. Quantity: Large portions, each entree is big enough for two to share.Value: $7 for the Scallion Pancake. $18 for the Sautéed Eggplant W/ Salted Egg Yolk. $25 for the Sliced Eye Of Round Beef W/ Peppers & Peanuts.Ambiance: Atlas Kitchen is an upscale Chinese restaurant located on the Upper West Side. They have a sophisticated front dining area, and a more intimate and cozy room towards the back. We ended up in this back room, which had just a few tables in a narrow space. The artwork on the walls was simple, but beautiful, and instrumental music played quietly in the background.Crowd: Reservations recommended, but can be secured a day or two before.Service: Extremely kind, but not very helpful in providing recommendations on the extensive menu.Parking: Limited parking in the area.

The food is delicious and the portions are really big. They have a lot to choose from on the menu. The service was good and the food came out pretty quick. Great spot for a date!

I went here for the first time last week and picked up our order. The pork dumplings were excellent, the vegetable spring rolls were great and not greasy, and the two chicken dishes we had were also excellent. We will be back again.

Good in the beginning, but getting pricey shortly, and ignoring customers' requests like less oil or salt. Asked the stir fry vegetables to be non spicy (as shown in thr menu photo), but it turned out to be spicy still
Be the first to ReplyWhat an exceptional experience.
The bar tender was superb and attentive. The food was flavorful and spicy. The drinks were good and smooth . The atmosphere was small and imitate.

You won't find high quality Chinese food like this anywhere else above midtown. Very beautiful atmosphere with a nice back room for parties. Service was a little slow during peak Covid but has improved a lot since then.

A new contemporary Chinese restaurant near the University of Columbia, and its Chinese name is Mountains and Sea, which is a classic concept in Chinese culture. This place is modern and comfortable for a date or friend gathering.Fresh and Salted Pork with bamboo shoot soup is not authentic at all, I am so disappointed to order this soup, a traditional home soup in the east side of China. not recommend!!!!Sauteed sliced beef with fresh chili is good, the beef is very tender and the chili smells good. Better to have rice with this dish.Braised fish fillet with Chinese Sauerkraut is not good. The fish type is not right and the shape is too thick to have full flavor and the Sauerkraut does not have flavor.
Be the first to ReplyIt was okay.
The restaurant is really pretty in the inside and the menu has a large selection. The service wasn't great since they forgot about us and didn't bring us more water until the end, but the food was good (each plate was very large--you don't need that many plates for a group).

4.5 stars but not quite ready to kick it over to 5 on the Yelp system.Well, well, well. Who knew that tucked away in Cathedral Hill was one of the most interesting, authentic and NOT overrated upscale Chinese restaurants in the city? A place so down home with the homies that it serves not one but TWO dishes with frogs, not to mention plenty of innards like kidney? What to get? Everything but the photogenic thin-sliced pork belly app, which was too dry and rather flavorless without the garlic chili sauce (which was too watery anyway). The thin-fried stinky tofu, on the other hand, was a delight...except it was served with the same garlic chili sauce, and I really wish they'd served it with pickled vegetables and garlic soy sauce or something more traditional. But it was stinky, fermented and pungent, just the way I like it!The Steamed Fish Fillet with Tofu and Chopped Red Chili Sauce melted in our mouths. The Mapo Tofu was one of the better ones I've had. The Hunan Fried Rice was generously stuffed with vegetables. And the Braised Frogs with Chopped Red Chilis was an explosion of flavor, though the frog pieces were pretty bony.I'm surprised by the comments about bad service, as we had quick, attentive service throughout the meal. Granted, we came at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. But I do need to give extra praise for the service: A member of our group was very picky, fussy, difficult, and ignorant about Chinese food (let's just say, I didn't choose for them to come). The server who took our order had the patience of an ox for dealing with her 10+ minutes of ignorant questions and insane demands. So thank you, kind server, for not treating us less after all that.

Be the first to ReplyAtlas Kitchen was a very good take on modern Chinese
Atlas Kitchen was a very good take on modern Chinese cuisine, albeit at slightly higher prices due to the more upscale setting. The organic cauliflower in dry wok flavored with sliced pork was DELICIOUS -- definitely the highlight of the meal. I also absolutely loved the stewed spare pork ribs with winter melon soup; a good soup like that really hits the spot in the winter. We were much less impressed by the braised pork belly with brown sauce -- the flavor profile was very one-dimensional (salty) and the texture was off in terms of toughness/chewiness. We spent about $40 each after tax/tip for lunch and left absolutely stuffed. Excellent service and ambience; will definitely be back when I want a modern Chinese treat!

Solid option for Chinese near Columbia! Although the prices seem high the value is there as I was able to get two meals out of the eggplant I ordered. Eggplant was well seasoned and caramelized nicely. Hot and sour soup was also solid and had a nice viscosity.
