Solid 2 Michelin star
Atera and Danish chef Ronny Emborg delivered a solid fine dining experience. The cuisine at Atero is pure, fresh and simple, yet still very innovative embracing the Nordic Kitchen manifesto. The service was spot on and the dishes paced perfectly. A very solid 2 Michelin stars in New York
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience
We had a great time at Atera. Small, cosy chef's table style. Expect a Dannish/Scandinavian + Asian influence from the chef. Service was great. Wine list was fine, but not espectacular.
Be the first to ReplyPerfection personified
Just exceptional, could not fault it in any way Amazing 14 courses, efficient but not to intense service and great selection of non alcoholic drinks to compliment the meal
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience at a highly rated restaurant that does not deserve its rating. Arrogant staff, creepy atmospher
We typically look to the Michelin guide while traveling and make a point of visiting their exceptionally rated restaurants at least once or twice a year. We selected this establishment based on the 2 star rating and found our experience to be enjoyable but not exceptional. The restaurant is tiny, seats perhaps 15 people max. They have a ridiculously high reservation penalty fee of over 200 per person yet make no attempt to confirm a reservation or set a reminder, leaving one to think that they would prefer to just rather collect your money rather than welcome you. The staff is well trained but the pace of the food comes far too fast, the chef is there but makes no attempt to interact with his his tiny clientele, the food yes was exceptional but the service was lacking as well as the atmosphere. My family very much felt rushed, our waiter seemed very upset that we did not order after dinner cordials despite the fact that we had the entire price fix plus wine pairing…. Once we were finished we were escorted outside and the doors were promptly closed and locked behind us despite the fact that it was raining outside, and we had spent over 1800 for dinner for a party of 3. Maybe it is the New York mentality; but it felt very much like a fleecing. We will not be back. We have visited Michelin rated restaurants in Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin, chicago….. just to name a few and they have never disappointed. This place seems to have become soulless, New York has hundreds of exceptional restaurants, this one should be avoided
Be the first to ReplyVery good, but maybe more a one star place
We very much enjoyed the visit. Staff was nice and the place is small and you are very close to the kitchen action. Food and wine is very good, but maybe it misses the real surprise to be worth 2 stars. The wine was good, but expected, ie no wine where you thought - oh I have never tried that before. A bit the same with the food. I would go back though and can really recommend the place.
Be the first to ReplyUnique experience
The chef table was very intimate seating arrangement. It’s around the kitchen, so you can see the chef’s prepare each dish which was a nice experience. It is a little weird at first because so many people (staff) are standing around staring at you. There is only room to fit about 14 people total for dining. The atmosphere was nice but very dark. There is only one bathroom and it is very dark as well. I will say it took forever to order and get my first drink, with so many people standing around you would think service would be impeccable. Not that service was bad, it just didn’t live up to the standard I thought it would. Other than that everyone was very nice and the wine sommelier Dan was very knowledgeable and friendly. I will also mention that the dress code didn’t seem to matter. There were some people dressed very casual and others very formal. Now for the food, everything was delicious and had a beautiful presentation. I also added the wine pairing which was expensive but definitely worth it! I will definitely come back again!
Be the first to ReplyBest meal we had this year
I usually do not write reviews, but this restaurant is absolutely amazing. 10/10, In our view is on its way to a third michelin star, and in fact better food than some three michelin stars we were at this year. From start to finish a great and balanced meal, well paced and you do not leave too full. We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyWorth It
We celebrated our wedding anniversary in October at Atera. We ordered the full tasting menu with no beverage pairing. The experience met our expectations - the food was exceptional, the service was polished and professional and the ambience was serene with most of the diners seating around a very quiet open kitchen. A very well-managed dining experience from start to end. Like many fine dining establishments these days, members of the kitchen bridgade bring each dish to you along with a well-rehearsed description of it. Our favourite dishes were the Iberico ham with tuna and the king salmon. Least favourite was the squid with foie gras. I would definitely recommend Atera to my friends and family who are looking for a fine-dining experience in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyUnimpressed
Food was ok but I didn’t like the strict dress code they imposed. Felt like I was unfree when I entered their restaurant and when I left it was as if I just left China or Russia. Freedom!!! I can understand if I was dressed like a homeless person but I wasn’t and in this day and age, give me a break with what I can and cannot wear. I dined at more expensive restaurants wearing hoodies and caps.
Be the first to ReplyDoesn’t add up
Atera inhabits a small yet charming space in TriBeCa. Sitting around the counter with the kitchen in the middle feels a bit as if you were at a dinner party of a very good cook.
The atmosphere is fun, the music is fantastic and the evening flows beautifully with the small courses perfectly paced.
The cooking is good but there is a fundamental flaw - I left hungry. Not one course truly satisfied and the experience doesn’t add up to a memorable whole.
Restaurants should satisfy as well as dazzle and stimulate, unfortunately Atera didn’t hit the mark for me, all of the courses were fine and some were better than fine but after two mouthfuls they were done.
About the price, I have no issue paying what Atera charges, I simply wished I had not left hungry and that the food had made me feel that this was an experience worthy of my time as well as my money.
Interestingly, Atera has 2 stars and is the same price as the 3 star Eleven Madison Park. EMP, which I dined at four days later left me in awe and inspired. Atera left me hungry.
Amazing food and service but abysmal ending!
For my 30th birthday celebration and first ever time to the US and visiting a Michelin starred restaurant we were super excited for this experience. We loved every course and the service, however, at the end we were left shocked and angry! After spending a ridiculous amount of money on the food and a nice bottle of wine the front of house confronted us in front of all the guests about our tip. Having given a tip which is entirelt discretionary, considering we had already spent over £700 which was a lot of money for us, they continued to badger us on giving more money which we could not afford considering this was a once in a lifetime experience. We felt the way they handled the situation was belittling and upsetting especially as the gratuity was optional and the value of the entire experience is so large. Never again have I felt so ashamed given the experience was meant to be magical! I thoroughly hope they review their wording on the website and bills and reconsider their people skills especially as the cultural differences on tipping are not so obvious! Ashameful!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding! Best 2-star we’ve been to in last several years
This is a dining establishment that demonstrated that it deserves it’s 2 Michelin stars. We sat at the counter and thoroughly enjoyed every course that was brought to us. The courses exhibited artistry in their design and execution and flavors were delicious and very well balanced. The sommelier was very helpful, recognizing that we were there to experience great food and also that we love great wine, especially when it’s a “find”. We especially enjoyed the fact that the chefs who were executing the courses brought them to us and talked to us about them. This is a personal touch that a traditional high-end restaurant can’t duplicate.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food and service in a 2 Michelin Star restaurant
This is a 2 star Michelin restaurant that holds about 15 people total. There is only one table that holds up to 5 and the rest is around the bar/kitchen.
The service was possibly the best I've ever had. The food was incredible. The wine pairings were excellent. It's not cheap!! Have the tasting menu and wine pairings and enjoy it as it should be. They do keep topping up the wine... :)
Incredible fine dining experience
Hands down the most amazing fine dining experience I've had so far. The super small restaurant is very intimate. You are seated at a U-shaped table with 14 people and an exposed kitchen. The chefs are part of the experience sharing their creations and chatting with you. Incredible service and attention to detail from the serving staff as well. This is not a 'stuffy' Michelin experience - they play rock music like the Rolling Stones as you feast on these incredible creations. If you like fine cuisine make sure to put this restaurant on your bucket list. It's worth a trip to NYC!
Be the first to ReplyFor an intense gourmet experience: the best chef’s counter in NYC
Every season brings new dishes at Atera: an I tomate dinner experience where you sit at the counter while chefs bring the last touch to delicious and surprising dishes. No rich ingredient will be missing, no vegetable will be treated as less than a star. Textures and savors will vary. Service will be professional, personable and attentive. Our favorite in this league. Continue, chef Ronny Emborg and lively team ! So glad to be back.

A hidden gem at NYC. Welcoming ambience. Atera serves a tasting menu along with wine pairing or temperance- non-alcoholic beverage pairing. It was my first to try temperance pairing, as it is typical to go along wine pairing. It was a great choice, at least on my vote, since my husband would argue that the wine is one of the best he had, as well!
A tasting menu; we traveled from sea to land and tasted the gift of nature; the ingredients respected at it is, and food elevated to a higher level. It requires intricacy and artistry to combine ingredients together to come up with a flavor so unique, it's unforgettable! Who would have thought that caviar can be served warm, in a custard? It is genius! And tasty! There is boldness in flavor and they are not afraid to give emphasis to it!
There is more to experience in Atera and words cannot give justice to the craft and the artisans within its walls. Unlike some fine dining experience, Atera gives a different definition of "fine", it shows finesse but in a relaxed atmosphere; that I think what makes the experience more enjoyable. This place is highly recommended for couples and small groups to enjoy the intimacy.
A culinary temple.
A truly exceptional meal. Each dish was a work of art. Unfortunately as soon as I placed my phone on the counter it was placed in a leather sleeve which I understood to mean no pictures. It was fascinating to see each dish assembled and when presented explained in detail. I have visited countless restaurants in NYC but none comes close to this one. More than a meal, it was an exhibition of the chefs creativity in a series of dishes. A must.
Be the first to ReplySomething is wrong with the chef
Atera is indeed a Michelin grade restaurant, no doubt about that. But the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. With the exception of the younger gentleman mostly in charge of the alcohol, the male crew exudes a level of PTSD that is beyond my comprehension. The chef seems to be going through some sort of intense existentialist trouble; he looked tense and all the cooks around him seemed afraid of doing a 'faux pas' or of not meeting his level of perfection. Something is not right with him. Don't get me wrong. The food was exquisite; the procession of amuse-bouches will leave an impression in your palate. But the atmosphere destroys what should be a memorable and delightful experience. We are not in a military academy, we are not in a cathedral, we are in a restaurant, trying to relax, attempting to take a break from our daily routine of struggles and ongoing challenges. Please do not put your guests through a stressful atmosphere; you will not lose or get a Michelin star by being uptight and communicating distress. SMILE. It is simple, easy and free; it will take you a long way to be charming with your customers. That is indeed what Atera needs from its chef and the males under his direction: CHARM. I will salute the exceptional service of the female servers, a true group of ladies of caliber who deserve recognition and promotion. They have a lot to teach to their male counterparts. The opening Lime cocktail, the oyster, the dumpling and the passionfruit mochi were the winners of the night. The restaurant's attitude was the loser.
Be the first to ReplyDeserves 3 michelin stars
I like the small size of the restaurant. There is only place for 12-16 people and that makes all the difference. Many restaurants in New York are enormous, and therefore lack a personal touch.
Staff is superfriendly and personal.
The tasting menu was exquisite and the wine pairing of high standard.
This is an absolute must in New York !
