I loved it
Fantastic venue. There are few better examples of upgraded, modernized space than the Strand Theater. This old theater has gone through many changes. But the latest is the best. This is a modern, comfortable venue for live performing arts. Seats are comfortable, auditorium is ultra modern, and best of all the bathrooms are large and clean. there is a concession stand and coffee shop just inside the front door. The staff including the security guards are friendly and helpful.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent theater event and performance on Market St San Francisco
The Strand Theater on Market Street in San Francisco, in 2019, is a beautiful renovation of a building and movie theater, originally built in 1917. There is a 283-seat theater all seats have excellent views of the stage. There is a 120-seat event and performance space, and a beautiful high ceiling lobby with a gigantic projection screen and there is a cafe. I enjoy attending plays by A.C.T. here. I also like the quick access to BART and other public transportation.

WE saw "Men in Boats" which was amazingly funny & poignant. This theater is one of the best--all new inside & small (maybe 250 people). Everything is well thought out. Very comfortable

What was once a seedy adult-movie theater has been transformed into a bright, open, and energizing local theater for live performances. We saw "Men On Boats" and loved it; but I'm sure that any production here will be outstanding because of the attention paid to comfort, audio, and visual sightlines.

This is the American Conservatory Theater’s other venue. Although it is in an historic building, it has been completely remodeled with a modern, industrial chic vibe. The original neon sign graces the cute little cafe as you enter. If you have time, sit down for a drink in the cafe and watch the slideshow on the fascinating history of this little theater. And don’t miss out on one of the ACT’s top-notch productions in a theater with no bad seats and great acoustics. I attended my first ACT play as a teenager in the 1970s, and I have NEVER been disappointed!

We saw Vietgone here - quite a confronting and challenging show, and excellent. The Strand Theater was the perfect venue. A place with a chequered past, but has been renovated really well so it is a smallish theatre venue with all the needed facilities. This includes elevator to support infirm or disabled guests, food and drinks available. Ticket purchase online worked well, the venue is very easy to get to using public transport.

Saw an excellent performance of and edgy play, Vietgone, in this intimate and comfortable theater. However, getting from the parking lot to the theater meant navigating essentially 2 blocks of various persons and groups that made me feel unsafe. The theater has a back exit closer to the parking which should be opened for ticket holders; This was my reaction for a matinee performance. I would dread an evening show without more security.

We found this theatre on a Google map search of the neighborhood around the Hampton where we were going to be staying, checked their website and ended up buying tickets. We had a very enjoyable evening.

I went and saw a play here in March, the venue is very intimate. I believe every seat in the house is a good one. You feel like you're in your living room, I'm so glad the Strand Theatre was remodeled. Bravo! I'd come watch another play here, any time.
Be the first to Replyindustrial funky decor with world class theatre productions
ACT is one of the country's premier theatre companies. When they expanded to include the old Stand movie house (memories of seeing Rocky Horror and other delights there) 2 years ago, I was a bit put back, having enjoyed the Geary for 40 years. The theatre itself is stark and industrial looking, with bare walls painted red. The seats are folding chair like, and about that comfortable (in other words, NOT comfy - especially for a 3 hour production as was my most recent experience). The theatre does seem more intimate than the larger, palatial Geary - and from the productions I've seen, for the most part the staging makes you forget the small stage size (the set design for John was amazing!). Bottom line - world class productions in an intimate, if uncomfortable theatre.
