I never expected my first meal in London to be so good! I've heard Anglo just opened, but if they keep cooking at this level, they'll never close. I love the intimate ambiance with just a few small tables. The appetizers come in rapid succession, and they're all super fun. There are sweet shreds of Crab under a frozen ice cap, a Beef Heart Kebab that tastes like a taco full of jerky, and a creamy purée of Salt Cod.Even their bread is exceptional. They let their sourdough starter work it's magic a lot longer than most so the extra sour gives the bread some earthier notes for a flavor-dense impact. They also add yeast to the butter, and it's as addictive as they say.The English Pea is the most surprising and easily the best dish. The peas are sweet and fresh, and I LOVE them. The black garlic and whey beneath are amazing, and this is coming from someone who hates peas. The Hampshire Trout is smoky, seared, and soft with a side of roasted tomatoes and summer squash with courgette purée.The Goosnargh Duck breast is a primal pink beneath a crispy skin. The pate dip is delicious, and the plum puree goes well with everything.Caramelized onions have a barely-detectable sooty finish on the Cheese and Onion on Malt Loaf, and the mild-to-medium-sharp cheddar shavings look like coconut.Dessert courses come next, and I love that they're all fruity and not too sweet. The Frozen Apricot goes well with leaves of basil, and a crisp burnt-sugar shell finishes like caramel.The Summer Berries are served with buttery shortbread, and the buttermilk ice cream brings it all together. The bonus Blueberry Financier is served still warm, and it's buttery like a Madeleine.Wow, I've literally never liked peas until now. Anglo has an amazing menu, and it's surprisingly very affordable. There is no lack of genius nor ingenuity in this kitchen, and I would love to see more of it!
