Really went downhill. Less choices, salad bar awful, do something with the lettuce! Remodel did not improve, very cold.
We went to The Amish Door after not being there for some time, we used to go as “dinner out” every other month or so because it’s close by, has always been great food, we love going upstairs and looking, buying something to take home. We also end up going to the bakery to take some goodies home with us, everything was always wonderful. Needless to say, all of us were highly disappointed! We opted for the buffet since it was the whole family (all adults)and we could get what we wanted. Salad bar was not good! The salad was finely chopped and very watery. No extra lettuce, like romaine, spinach, etc., just finely chopped iceberg. The salad toppings were there but salad bar was much smaller than we remembered. My first thought after seeing the lettuce, yuck, was, “Wow, looks like they’re cutting corners”. Eating the salad, my son started not feeling good, doesn’t mean it was the salad because the rest of us was fine, I always get ranch & it was not good! No taste at all, hubby said the same. On to the buffet, chicken was probably the best I’ve had, juicy, not over cooked, everything else, not so much. Again, this buffet looked to be smaller, less choices. Overall, very disappointed. My son did not eat anything besides the salad. As I said, it’s been awhile since we have been there so I’m not sure when they remodeled. Gone was the beautiful quilts, bright & cheerful, country atmosphere. In place, it has become cold, steel grey, gloomy, all of us just HATED it! So overall, we all agreed it did not improve, looks like they are cutting corners, very disappointing and we all said we would not be back & agreed it’s going downhill & we give it 6 months. Only give it a 2-star because our server was very nice. There are too many other restaurants in the area that are much better, less costly, great atmosphere. Do yourself a favor & choose another restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThe Best Amish Country Buffet
While visiting the Amish area on vacation we ate at 4 buffets. This one is, by far the best. The food was great. The facility was spotless. Our waitress, Jacey (spelling unsure) was wonderful! On the way out we were extremely impressed with how she cared for an elderly military veteran. Making sure he had everything he needed. This is a really good restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyFish & Chips are bad!
Do not ever order the fish & chips. I had that and it was the worst meal I have ever had. The fish was so tough down the center I could not cut it with a knife. I had to pick at the sides in order to get a few bites of cod. Also, the fries were soggy and not crispy at all.

This was our first place we went to for a meal when we got to Amish Country. I got the roast beef, gravy, mashed potatoes, and corn. Delish!! My husband, Mark, got the meatloaf , mashed potatoes, and corn. They served dinner rolls with the meal and I wanted to eat all of them ...delish!! We split a piece of pecan pie. It was good and not as sweet as some I have had. We would definitely recommend the place!!

Neither one of us was all that hungry so we decided not to get the buffet. We had the chicken dinner and hot roast beef sandwich combo which were both wonderful! The dinner rolls were awesome (and they sell them in their bakery to take home with you which we did) Service was top notch, we didn't have room for dessert but I'm sure that pie was great too.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed visit
We have dined at the Amish Door for probably 10 years. I was disappointed with them today. They have significantly raised their prices and I don’t feel the quality was the same as in the past. A three piece chicken dinner 2 sides costs between $15-$16.00. Add a beverage for another$ 3.00 and lunch is now$19.00. If you prefer to substitute a healthy salad for a side there’s an additional charge of $5.49, bringing your lunch up to $24.49. Amish Door has followed the trend of businesses adding a3% charge for credit card purchases. A stop to the bakery in the past was a happy visit. The chocolate brownies were reasonably priced and buying 6 was a price breaking point. Today I found a piece of brownie was $2.99 or 12 for $22.99. That exceeds my budget for sweets. The gift shop upstairs was now closed. The once bustling restaurant , where I had to wait in line to get a table , was noticeably empty.Sadly, I doubt that we will be returning.

Best peanut butter cream pie. Very flavorful and satisfying. We even brought a whole peanut butter cream pie home. Don’t skip dessert here.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Apple fritters
I was very disappointed in the bakery, we ordered a dozen and a half Apple fritters to take to family and friends. We drove 2 1/2 hours because we were shopping nearby. We have done this many times but all of us thought they were day old and failed to see any apple at all in them. We called twice to talk to a manager both times they said the call would be returned soon. It’s been a couple weeks and nothing. I spent over $45 and previously been very happy with food at restaurant and bakery. disappointed in no one caring. Won’t be going back

We stopped for Dinner and it was delicious! It was cafeteria style food, but seasoned well. We liked going to the little gift shop connected to it! We bought bread and jelly.
Be the first to ReplyHad not eaten here in many years
My friend and I go to Amish Country every year in March to celebrate her birthday. The past few years we’ve eaten in Sugar Creek, Walnut Creek or Berlin. This year we decided to go to places we hadn’t been to in a long time. We ate the buffet and it was very good-the salad section was very fresh. I had the beef, fried shrimp, ham and mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything was very good although the gravy was a little salty for my taste. Our waitress was very attentive and there when we needed her. The only negative was the girl who took our money didn’t thank either of us-that’s kind of a pet peeve of mine!🙁
Be the first to ReplyPASSED TO THE KIDS IN 2020 WORST DECISION it's TERRIBLE
This used to be our go to place today it wasn't the same as 4 years ago. I regret going. 4 people all you can eat "grand???" Buffet was terrible even my son who could eat his fair share only went up once. Tiny buffet , chicken breading not the same, dry looks like the chicken was starved. Shrimp could be broken it was so dry like glass. Salad bar leaves much to be desired and what's with the 2 whole deserts? If that's what you want to call it? Banana pudding dumped with whip cream and then whip cream with oreo cookies crumbled in it. Tmi but I belched that all the way home. Service staff was nice enough but doesn't make up for 92.00 for 4 people to eat. If you want a grilled cheese sandwich it's 10 bucks and a burger is 14!!!! Get a steak at Texas Roadhouse for that. I believe the potatoes are now instant. The gravy used to be a food group in itself. If you want this place to survive I think an elder needs to get in there and see what they're doing wrong. They're running it into the ground and it's sad.
Be the first to ReplyNot what i expected from all the rave reviews
I ordered turkey and dressing... how hard is it to slice turkey and make dressing and gravy.... when my plate came it was not appealing at all... the turkey was ground and the dressing was pieces.... it smelled and i only ate a little... i should have asked for something else but our server was hard to find,,, i would never recommend this place to anyone and the hotel and restaurant is it.... you have to drive 15 min or more to berlin and the other amish places..
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing & Overpriced
After reading the description of the restaurant buffet and even calling to confirm the main entrees, my husband and I were so looking forward to some hearty, mouthwatering Amish cooking. Since Amish Door was 10 min closer than the one our hosts had recommended & was the only one serving shrimp & brisket (usually two of my favorites) we decided to pay the $4 extra per meal & chose Amish Door. BAD decision! The mashed potatoes & noodles were yummy. The bread seemed warm/ fresh. The iceberg lettuce seemed fresh. The brisket did not taste good at all. My chicken breast was dry, roast beef did not taste good & the shrimp I had was lukewarm/cold and hard (not fresh tasting). The desserts were also disappointing...donut halves, a mediocre apple crisp & some tasteless pudding dish.
Our server was attentive, but none of the servers were the least bit Amish.
My husband and I wished we had chosen differently as it seemed a waste of $50.
Delicious meal for a reasonable price in a great atmosphere.
My husband ordered the cold salad bar and really enjoyed all the different types of salad that were available to mix together. I ordered the chopped steak, mashed potatoes and noodles. All of my meal was delicious, especially the homemade noodles and the mashed potatoes. The homemade rolls were just like Mom used to make. The only item we didn't care for was the water that tasted like chlorine. I would definitely recommend the Amish Door for a low to medium priced good home cooked meal.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the Finest Restaurants in the Area! Definitely Worth the Drive!
Amish Door is a little drive from Berlin, but it's definitely worth the trip! The food and service are outstanding. This time, I had their Amish Meatloaf and my wife had their chopped sirloin. Both were cooked to perfection. Boy, were they yummy! And the service is outstanding. They can't do enough to make sure you're well taken care of.
Be the first to ReplyWhat is implied is not what you get!
Not really sure what was “Amish” about the place - maybe it was just the door.
The food was marginal at best, the grand buffet was anything but grand. Of all the restaurants in the area, we will not ever return & suggest you select another.
Something Special
On a family trip we planned to stop here for lunch. Was not crowded and was seated quickly. Crystal was our waitress and she is special. She recommended the chili and was not disappointed. I had Mt Dew and my wife had sweet tea. Both were very good and Crystal kept the gasses full. We had these massive dinner rolls brought to the table that melted in your mouth as they were just out of the oven.
We both got the buffet as we wanted to sample everything. Wow. Mashed potatoes were hand made and salad fixings were all very fresh. Crispy, flavorful chicken, roast beef, meatball’s and sauce were amazing. You have to go hungry. We were so full that we could not eat any dessert, but wanted to. Stop by when in the area. You won’t be disappointed.
Good place of home cooking
Meat loaf was served warm but hot fries. They do offer big buffet for under 10 bucks the place can be very bud during the summer
Be the first to ReplyGood food
Went with wife to eat here on a Friday. It wasn’t busy but people were coming as we left. I had the traditional Amish dinner of shrimp, steak fries and breaded mushrooms. But my wife had a more traditional dinner of chicken, mash potatoes and fresh green beans. For was good and we loved looking in bakery for pies. Love to eat here again.
Be the first to ReplyGood Service
Ate here because we were staying in the area. This one is usually less busy that Der Dutchman, etc for the same types of food. We were seated promptly and though our server was busy, she did a good job.
Food is just okay. If you want real homemade food, visit Boyd and Wutherman's or Rebecca's Bistro. This is a good place for a quick meal and large groups.
Back to normal -Almost
Went there for lunch with my family. I was impressed by the good service as many restaurants are experiencing staffing issues. Not the case here. The food and service was as good as always.
Tables were separated for social distancing. Enjoyed the atmosphere and food.
Local customer
My husband and I went to the Amish door restaurant and to say we were shocked would be an understatement, we are locals we live about a mile from the restaurant so we’ve eaten there countless times, we tried our best to support them through the pandemic, they have raised their prices to a ridiculous amount, the buffet used to be 14.00-15.00 and you got the salad bar and the hot foods with that, now they’ve decided to divide it up between not and cold, it’s 11.99 for the cold part but if you want the meat buffet with it it’s 20.00! Three dollars for a pop!
Believe me when I say it’s not worth it, what were the thinking doing that to their customers? the bakery is outrageously priced as well they are going to price themselves out of business, there are way better choices around here.
We were all hurt by the closing of our country financially but you can’t raise prices by that much and still expect people that have lost their jobs or had their hours cut to pay that ridiculous price for mediocre food. So we won’t be back, we’ll go to Der Dutchman or Mrs. Yoder’s kitchen
