food was OK.
Nothing to write home about very expensive for no reason this is a type of place that you go to just to say you went. Service was good. Very open.

Great food & drinks with a great staff and a great ambiance makes this spot a real gem. Definitely recommend it

Came here on a date (without a reservation) and was greeted by a distracted host. He explained that because we didn't have reservation, we had to sit either at the bar or the 5 seater high top facing the window even though we counted four empty tables (for two and four people). He also insisted we finish within 90 min because of reservations. We didn't leave because it was particularly cold and windy that night, but trust we absolutely would have. Regardless, our server was much kinder. The drinks were very made. We both ordered the Mezcalero, each was shaken to perfection. The food was also very delicious. We ordered the fish and brisket tacos to start. Wow what an explosion of flavors. We then got the octopus and pork belly. When I tell you -- it was theeee best tacos I've had in AWHILE! I would love to come back, but praying for a better host (or a reservation).
Be the first to ReplyAlta Calidad blew me away.
From the photos I was expecting your typical modern pretty decent food but with nice upscale decor. But THE FOOD. My lord. I haven't tasted such flavors in a long time. Better than Mexico, and I spend a lot of time in Mexico. Had the ricotta pancakes, torta ahogada and chorizo roti. The former two were the best, the chorizo roti was also good and HUGE, but would have been nice to have a steak knife to cut it and not just a butter knife.

Maybe I was just in a good mood because I was two blocks and a couple hours away from great seats at Madonna's Celebration tour, but a recent dinner at Alta Calidad convinced me that this spot is a clear cut above the other Mexioptions in the neighborhood. Alta toes a delicate line of being a specialer-than-usual neighborhood spot, without tipping over into being precious chichi "elevated Mexican" cuisine (looking at you, Xixa.) The food? Portion sizes are appropriately restrained, in keeping with Alta's glamorous, serious vibe. Dishes come out almost inconveniently quickly, but everything I ate was really good. The guacamole was accompanied by homemade, well-seasoned chips; the pumpkin blossom quesadilla was nicely executed, and my husband liked his brisket tacos. The rice and beans were a serviceable filling side dish. Alta Calidad also passed my official margarita test: my picky Virgo husband did not make a funny face on first sip, and reordered the same drink. If only you knew, reader, what a towering achievement that is. They have an appropriate panoply of tequila options, but also not too many margaritas on the menu - a classic, a vegetal "jardin", and a spicy pineapple one. One small thing to be aware of: a "high top" reservation may well mean you're sitting at the bar. A friendly bartender and good service made this fine, but I was expecting a table. Overall, I think Alta Calidad ("high quality") is truth in advertising: not revolutionary or worthy of a special pilgrimage, but high quality and well deserving of a visit if it fits into your plans.
Be the first to ReplyNice brunch spot, reservations expected.
The service was quick and attentive. The menu is very clear and has both savory and sweet options. The portions are perfect. I ordered sunny side up eggs and the pancakes, which are great for those with a sweet tooth. The pancakes soak up the compote perfectly making maple syrup unnecessary. I highly recommend the Mexican hot chocolate. This place is very chill for families and all.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent!! Service was wonderful.
The food was exceptional with flavors that work. Definitely you need to try this place. Prices were reasonable.

Food here is excellent, though the taco portions are quite small. Iced tea is delicious. The decor and atmosphere are quite nice, pretty clearly catering to the millennial instagram crowd. The service, however, is really bad. The waitress with short dyed blonde hair sat us in a spot overflowing with other people's bags, then acted very annoyed when we scooted down one spot (in an almost entirely empty restaurant). She gruffly told us "I haven't wiped that one down," and then never offered to wipe it down. Never saw her again except to bring us our food. I had to go up and ask for napkins, which she begrudgingly gave me. Impolite & bad at her job, which was reflected in her tip. Could be a great spot if they hired decent staff
Be the first to ReplyNice ambience, great staff.
Get the fish tacos and the corn and the Brussels sprouts! So so good. I wish the guacamole was a little spicy but that's just a personal preference. The portion sizes for everything was perfect. You can share the corn and the Brussels sprouts. I would definitely come back for lunch or dinner.
Be the first to ReplySat out on the street on a beautiful august night.
Service was attentive, no complaints here. - Duck confit ($20) - did not realize this was going to be a make your own tacos situation, but YUM. With fig marmalade? Yes please. This dish was excellent. - Fish tacos ($14) - good flavors - Esquites ($10) - hard to do wrong & always a good choice - Churros ($10) - sitting in honey with a chocolate dipping sauce on the side. The honey made the churros a little soggy and too sweet..and I would have preferred just the dipping sauce Cocktails were solid (got the la primavera) and they did a mezcal marg for my friend. Overall 4.5/5 and would definitely come again.

I've been eyeing this restaurant for years, and I finally got delivery today. I was finishing the movie The Menu, and decided that I wanted an elevated dining experience at home so I finally gave in and ordered. In case you haven't seen The Menu, it's about a restaurant serving high brow meals that are more fanciful than necessarily flavorful. It's about how restaurants are often pushed to be more innovative and cerebral to the point that the actual pure dining experience can suffer. Then the gourmand patrons were punished for forcing a celebrity chef to get to this point.Unfortunately, my meal reminded me a lot of The Menu. My meal arrived looking so colorful and inviting, but the actual flavors lacked in the end. I started with the octopus and pork belly over rice. The only delicious part of the meal was the pico de gallo on the sides, which mixed beautifully with the rice. The pork belly and octopus lacked seasoning. I understand the desire to let natural flavors stand on their own, but it just felt neglectful. Certain foods NEED salt at least! If you order this, prepare to use salt, other seasonings, and a sauce on the proteins. The rice was pretty good, but again could use a little love.I also got the queso with chorizo, since I'm a firm believer that cheese makes everything better. Clearly I was wrong! The cheese was the equivalent of a slightly warm shower- it's better than nothing, but left me feeling deflated. Dejected. Confused. I really don't understand where the flavor was here. This is the perfect meal to have while watching The Menu, or if you have salt restrictions on your diet, or if you don't mind seasoning your own food. If I was dragged here by friends I could smile and go along with it, so while it's not the best it's not the worst. Godspeed!

Went to Alta Calidad last night for dinner and really enjoyed my time there. Our server/bartender was Eric, and he is just FABULOUS. He made a delicious cold brew martini for me, as well as recommended the Roasted Fish tacos. My friend got the Carne Asada tacos. We were just out looking for a laidback dinner, but Eric made it extra fun. The food came out quickly, and although it was only 2 tacos a platter, we were stuffed afterwards. That didn't stop us from getting the Tres Leches carrot cake, which was perfect... I really enjoyed the flakes on top. Overall, Alta Calidad is a fun, yet intimate location where the service feels very personable and the food is good to boot!
Be the first to ReplyGreat spot, will be back.
Went for brunch on Saturday and was very impressed. Cute airy space, very reasonable priced food and drinks, and nice staff. We had a reservation and they were nice enough to allow us to move from a high top to a low top table. The horchata cocktail was the only miss, but the margarita and the mezcal drink were both excellent. 4 of us shared 2 apps, each got a main, and had coffee and drinks and including tax and tip it was $50 per person (which to me seems very reasonable for nyc brunch with drinks). We will be back because the desserts looked excellent but we were stuffed. For food we had:queso fundidoyuca totsbreakfast quesadillachilaquilesfish tacospancakes

I almost don't want to give this place 5 stars because I don't want it to get more popular! This place is amazing! Their fundido is the closes I've come to mid-West Mexican white queso. But everything we had was great (other than the horchata cocktail)!!!

I always see this place hopping when I walk by so even though Mexican is not my go-to cuisine, we decided to give this place a try. Overall, we had a nice experience. The servers are attentive but not overbearing. The tacos were tasty and interesting. We didn't love the duck a la plancha, but I'm a tough customer when it comes to duck. The yuca tots will be disappointing if you go in expecting the crunch texture of tater tots. Instead, they have a light exterior crisp and a creamy inside. I thought they were delicious once I adjusted my expectations. I'll come back to try more!

Came here in a big group for lunch on a weekday and had a wonderful time! Their menu is great and there's something for everyone. We started with the guacamole which was really delicious and then most people in our group ordered tacos and a side. The tacos are only 2 per serving but it's still a big portion because they are generous in their toppings! I ended up being too full to eat most of my side which was rice and beans. All the tacos are served on corn tortillas which are really good too. The staff was extremely friendly and patient with our large group. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're in the neighborhood and are looking for flavorful and unique tacos!
Be the first to ReplyI had a great time at Alta Calidad.
The wait staff was incredibly friendly and patient with my group of indecisive (mostly me) costumers. During the summer, they sometimes shut down the street nearby which is nice when dining on the sidewalk. This is also a great place to come for drinks. I loved all of the tacos that I tried. The mango salsa and pistachio mole on the roasted fish tacos was excellent. If you love yuca, you absolutely have to try the yuca "tater tots" with chipotle aioli. The tacos are filling!! Keep that in mind if you also want to try their churros or tres leches carrot cake.

Pricey but soooooooo good! I always get the pork shoulder and yuca fries. If you can swipe an extra spicy mayo; do it! The flavor of the sauce goes perfectly with the Yuca and you'll want to dip each ball multiple times! The pork shoulder is fatty and juicy with so much flavor and your mouth will drip with the fat and juice from each bite. You can tell the cooks here actually love their jobs and want to have the highest quality of ingredients. Yummy!
Be the first to ReplyCouldn't actually eat here.
Despite their own website saying you cannot make reservations to sit outside, all the tables outside were reserved. When challenged, they indicated they haven't been able to change their website. Doesn't give me very high hopes for the food if they can't manage the "walk-ins" they apparently welcome.

Man...... when I say this place not only have good food. They're being creative with it also. Food presented on plates nicely, servers always around. I never gave a five star before.... I would have gave 6 stars if it was possible.... You know what, anything is possible. 10

I stopped in around 9:30pm to order something for take out. It was one of the few places open late. The restaurant is small but has some outdoor seating and bar seating. I chose to wait outside until my food was ready. Service was fast and friendlyThe grilled Mexican street corn is everything you love from Mexican street corn just without the hassle of biting into a cob. It was flavorful and slightly spicy. I pretty much at the whole bowl of it.I also ordered both the beef brisket and roasted fish tacos. They were equally excellent bites. The one thing I wasn't much a fan of, was the yuca tots. I was expecting it to be crispy like tater tots but it was more like a fried ball of mashed potatoes. Not crispy at all. I did like the chipotle aioli that comes with the dish though. I've been here a couple times and must say that the food has been consistently good. This is a great place to try if you're in the area. It also makes for a cute date night as its dimly lit.
Be the first to ReplySpectacular food.
I seriously dream about the yuca tots and the squash blossom quesadilla. I went once pre COVID and have been back twice in the last month. Plus their frozen drinks are great on a hot day.

I had a business meeting here last year and 21 and tried A few things from their menu I return several times afterwards and was always pleased
Be the first to ReplyI highly recommend splurging on fancy tacos here.
They are full past the brim with savory goodness and will light up your senses as a good taco should - fancy or not. The chips are unusually excellent and I highly recommend the yucca puffs as well. Sharp cocktails. The restaurant is small, chic, and intimate - perfect place to impress a date.
Be the first to ReplySecond visit here on a busy weekend night.
We sat outside which made for great people watching, e.g. the guy on a bike balancing a full trash can on his head (no joke). The service was great for us, contrary to what others have shared. Hostess was attentive as were our waiter and busser. We ordered the shrimp tacos, pork tacos, pumpkin quesadilla and chips with guacamole. It was more than enough food for two people. The shrimp were so large that it was challenging to eat and a bit messy. It was also fried which was surprising and that's pretty much all I tasted. The pork was tasty. It comes on a big platter and you make your own taco. I could have eaten it right off the plate, forget the tacos. The quesadilla was interesting, like nothing I've ever had, similar to squash in terms of texture and taste. I wouldn't necessarily order it again but I'm glad we tried it. Chips were salty and crispy, a good foil for the guacamole. I'd give this place another try. It has a nice vibe. The food didn't blow my mind but maybe it was just a busy night.
