Just treated like a leper because I had the nerve to ask
Just treated like a leper because I had the nerve to ask for a table for 1. The very study host came over and told me he couldn't possibly entertain finding a table for at least forty minutes. There was no line except for one couple. many tables were close to finishing. He just didn't want to be bothered letting one person take a table. I can't sit uninstall unless there's a foot rest after the knee operation. Because then my leg can't just hang there. And I try to explain this, but he didn't care so. After taking a lift there to enjoy breakfast. I'm now in a car back home
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely phenomenal food.
Green devils are mouth watering Dumplings with clams is different and the chicken paprika with a side dish of cabbage with onion and anchovy vinaigrette made us savor every bite. Very unique and very good. Oh yes, and a cute place as well.
Be the first to ReplyWe had such a great breakfast at Agi's Counter last month
We had such a great breakfast at Agi's Counter last month when were in the city for a long weekend. We both enjoyed Dirty Ovaltines, which were great. Then we shared the Hungarian donuts (only available on Sundays), which were - I'm not exaggerating - the best donuts I've ever had in my entire life. They were perfectly fried, covered in powdered sugar, and served with honey butter on the side. TO DIE FOR. But that isn't all they do well. I couldn't resist a bowl of Nokedli Soup (grated dumplings swimming in chicken broth with tons of dill), which was so warming and homey and delicious. Then my husband had the paprika sausage over buttered grits and two sunny side eggs (which he enjoyed), and I love country club plate (house-cured salmon, smoked trout salad, tomato, cucumber, parsley-shallot salad, whipped farmers cheese, and caraway rye). Did we eat too much? YES. But we couldn't resist this amazing breakfast menu! I wanted everything. The service was great, and the restaurant is tiny but so charming and cozy. I would absolutely come back for breakfast. But I also want to visit for dinner (chicken paprikash? lamb stuffed cabbage?). Basically, I just can't wait to come back. A gem.

The atmosphere is causal and relax. Staff are super friendly
Be the first to ReplyI live in the neighborhood and just had an impulse to stop
I live in the neighborhood and just had an impulse to stop by today as I had heard about Agi's and had never been. I am not a big review-writer and had no intent of doing so. So keep this to yourself. If all your friends show up I'm going to have to come after you if they take my seat next time. I love the sweet, cozy atmosphere - counter in the front lit by the sun today, counter on the side, and a few cozy tables in the back. I was a single so I sat at the lovely counter on the side. Not sure what material the counter is constructed of, but I thought it was very attractive and a pleasant surface to dine on. Everybody there was super-friendly and accommodating. I am a crêpe lover, but rarely order them. The Palacsinta (rolled Hungarian crêpes) with lemon curd and warm brown butter was a home run. They are spongier and fluffier than a French crêpe, perfectly browned. It didn't look like a lot of food at first, but they were totally filling and incredibly satisfying - not too sweet. The butter, crème and a dusting of powdered sugar did the job! I had worried that crepes might be too carb-y for me so my server suggested a side of the thick cut bacon - OMG! This was not what I expected. This is not your typical thick-cut bacon. It was about a third of an inch thick, perfectly caramelized. This mouth-explosion of pork and fat perfectly complemented the crepes. This is a specialty bacon that I have not seen served any place else. The coffee was great as well. I also enjoyed their plates and tableware. And again, all of the staff were so friendly and happy to explain things and enjoyed how much I enjoyed the food. I'll definitely be back. Just don't take my seat. I normally would post a photo before digging in, but it just didn't dawn on me. I wasn't planning on posting anything about this.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is awesome!! The service was lovely, we ordered
This place is awesome!! The service was lovely, we ordered coffee and got boundless free refills. We split the tuna melt, the chicken dumpling soup, green devils, and the decadent cheesz cake. Felt so at home, the ambiance is cozy and warm -- A+ for music. This would be a great spot for a low key date night, or just a private, quiet little lunch. Cannot recommend more, you'll leave feeling like you just got a hug!!

I've been following Agi's on Instagram for a while and have been so curious about their tuna melt and cheesecake! Was worried that after they got on the Michelin guide maybe it'd start to get overhyped. Sadly there was no tuna melt during dinner so we got the pickled mackerel toast, which honestly satisfied my toasted bread + fish craving. The bread was beautifully toasted on all surfaces, perhaps drowning in too much olive oil. The fish was salty and acidic, had a slight chewy texture you don't expect with fish. 3.5/5 Chicken paprika looks like a showstopper on the plate but the chicken itself was ok. Texturally tender but most of the flavor is only on the skin and in the sauce, the meat was like regular rotisserie chicken. 3/5 Carrots on carrots was TINY. Served on the smallest cake plate. Definitely not worth the price for just roasted carrots atop carrot purée. 2/5 There were 3 people rotating behind the counter serving our food, they all seemed really nice and chill. One offered us extra nicely toasted bread ($3) to sop up the chicken juices. Lastly, cheesecake - I was surprised to find that the blueberries actually taste like fresh poppy blueberries but tossed in a thin blueberry sauce, which is good bc adds so much freshness but you also get the sauciness! Cheesecake itself is pretty standard. The olive oil is super grassy and I do like the pairing / it's quite yummy with the cheesecake and blueberries but I wouldn't say it's a match made in heaven. Agi's has a few more classic dishes (dips, liver mousse, sandwiches) that apparently amazing based on social media. I think I'd come back eventually to try them, they have the potential to be excellent but maybe not as mind blowing as I'd expect. Still a super cute, aesthetic cozy spot!

Came here for brunch, which has been highly reviewed on social media. I loved the tuna sandwich. It's buttery with fresh herbs and melts in your mouth. Unfortunately we had an afternoon reservation so a couple of other things I wanted to order weren't available. Portions were generally on the smaller side but fairly priced for the quality of food you get. Recommend getting there early if possible!
Be the first to ReplyA gem.
Have only been here for lunch and they change their menu every so often. Everything is made with so many fresh herbs and care. Today we came for a snack and I had their deviled eggs (special and incredible), and a side of their pickled veggies, and a cappuccino. The atmosphere is perfect - like a modern coffee shop (but hard to explain because it's so much better than that). Service is incredibly friendly and they even let us hang out at the counter after they were closed.
Be the first to ReplyA great find if you're in the area of the Brooklyn museum.
It's only a five minute walk away. Service is excellent and it's a cute little room with seating and counter space. Good- Eastern European meets Comfort food. I had a fabulous tuna salad On homemade potato toast served with a side of pickles and cabbage salad. A very filling dish -but hey I can go work it off with a great walk. My only minor suggestion is the Plate that the sandwich is served on is tiny and the sandwich is too big for the plate-I kept on thinking I would get parts of the sandwich on the counter. but , that being said-I would come again-to try the other dishes. Apparently there are alot of repeat customers!
Be the first to ReplyLovely dinner! We ordered the Caesar to start, a couple of
Lovely dinner! We ordered the Caesar to start, a couple of aperitifs, the dumplings in broth, the crispy pork, the cheesecake, and the chocolate cookie. Everything is delicious. Get anything! The textures and flavors were stellar. Do not skip dessert. - The Caesar dressing, breadcrumbs and caraway with the radicchio were a tasty start. - The dumpling soup broth was delicious! Some crispy chicken skin on top. Wish there was a bit of protein. - The pork was crispy! It came with celeriac. - The cheesecake was indulgent. I loved the berries and olive oil. - The cookie came with milk and had a terrific amount of salt and more caraway. We came at 6pm on a Sunday and were seated at the counter. It quickly filled up around us by 7. Our servers made a mistake giving our entrees to the diners next to us and as a result we waited far too long between our appetizer and entree. Unfortunate mistake since there weren't many diners. I really wish our servers acknowledged this since this was a bummer. Otherwise, wonderful service. Beautifully decorated and lit space!
Be the first to ReplyNeat spot.
Good tuna melt and hash brown. Though I don't know that I really feel like the tuna melt benefitted from the confit treatment since the tuna was shredded pretty finely. In SF Pal's takeaway does a similar tuna sandwich but the tuna flakes are a lot bigger and I think you can taste the difference. The hasbrown is kind of hard to describe. It's like a potato pillow in a good way. My wife got the biscuit sandwich and she seemed to like it quite a bit too. The house hot sauce tastes pretty good but it's pretty mild in terms of heat.
Be the first to ReplyHad a great low key dinner here.
It's always nice when you can take your time and linger over a lovely $50 bottle of wine and nosh on some chicken liver toast. Don't skip the caraway Caesar, it's aggressively seasoned, in the best possible way, and was a real standout. As was the cheesecake, a fruity, savory NY style cheesecake that was a joy, and not a slog, to finish. The service was warm and the whole place felt so friendly.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, inventive food, mediocre service and egregious
Great, inventive food, mediocre service and egregious up-charging. We ordered the hash browns (came out cold, roe was an add on we didn't get), the green eggs (under seasoned, anchovy add on we didn't get, but the eggs could not stand on their own without the saltiness of the anchovies, which is a problem), the tuna melt (delicious, but came with two tiny pickle SLICES for a whole sandwich. When I asked for more pickles to accommodate a sandwich of that size - ANOTHER attempt to upcharge!! I was told I had to get a side of pickles at a charge; sorry, you didn't provide enough for the sandwich I got and paid for!), and the peppers and eggs (we asked for hot sauce - you guessed it! Upcharge!). I knew about the 5% kitchen appreciation fee; that's fine. I get it. But you can't double dip and try to just highway rob your customers. Plus, in an hour, we got checked in on a grand total of 1 time. We had to ask 3 different people for boxes and the check, and never got refills on our coffee (or asked; I'm sure it would have been an upcharge again!). I got a glass of wine, and received a very shallow pour as well. You're doing a lot of things right, but you're also doing a lot of things wrong. Raise your prices a bit and get rid of all the additional charges; it's brunch, not a prix fixe dinner. You can't serve less than a full meal, and then make up the difference in upcharges. I'm shocked they didn't charge me for the tap water at the table (which never got refilled either). Overall, disappointing experience I have looked forward to for weeks. Too greedy, overall.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a wonderful warm welcome into the crown heights
What a wonderful warm welcome into the crown heights neighborhood! Agi's C was warm and sweet. What was more impressive was the staff, welcoming and friendly! Good food and an even better atmosphere. Head there before the winter is over for a cozy and hearty Brunch.
Be the first to ReplyWent for a mid-week lunch.
Excellent tuna melt, chicken liver mousse and deviled eggs. Got the cheesecake special too which had great consistency and macerated blueberries. The ding overall in stars is for service. Perhaps it's different at night since it's a cafe during the day. We sat in the back and it felt like we were forgotten and had to consistently flag down our server. When we ordered, we let them know we would be sharing everything, yet they didn't bring sharing plates when the food arrived. It also took one reminder as they got busy/distracted.

Be the first to ReplyCame here recently for brunch and after seeing such raving
Came here recently for brunch and after seeing such raving reviews was really excited for a potential new brunch spot. But was very disappointed. It's a small shop so very intimate but also long waits depending on the time of day if you don't have a reservation. We got the tuna melt, hash brown and country club plate. The tuna melt was probably the best of the three - but for $17 not sure if it's really worth it. The country club plate had an array of different ingredients and they work but it felt a bit discordant - smoked salmon with beets, with cucumber, feta and a flat bread cracker. The flavors mingled but in a confusing way. The hash browns look good on photos, and perhaps it's a personal preference thing, but they were too crispy for me. I'm normally a big fan of crisps but for hash browns, I like mine crisp on the outside and softer inside. Agi's counter's hash browns are crisp through and through. As some reviewers have noted, it's a bit on the pricier side. For this reason and given the above, I don't think I will be returning. It was interesting to try but it wasn't a home run unfortunately for me.
Be the first to ReplySuch a cute spot and the staff was so attentive and nice
Such a cute spot and the staff was so attentive and nice throughout the whole meal. I had the Hungarian crepes which were yummy and sweet. My friend and I shared the hash browns which were a very interesting shape. They were very crispy and fell apart when you tried to eat them in any way but they were addictive, like crispy chips and the horseradish sour cream spread under it was such a good pairing. Also had a dirty ovaltine (chocolate, espresso and oat milk hot drink) which was perfect and cozy and not too sweet.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for weekend brunch and a bit overdue.
Came on a Sunday around 12:30pm and had a 45 minute wait for two people (we sat out front with a dog). Service was fine. Server asked if our dog wanted water, which was thoughtful. Ambiance is casual and cute - very much like a neighborhood spot. Food-wise, portions are kind of small, but overall we enjoyed our meal. I would go back, but I wouldn't necessarily wait. I ordered:-Doughnuts: they have these on Sunday's only (at least when we went). They were more like beignets with a hint of lemon. I thought they were a bit bland and dry and I wouldn't order again. -Confit Tuna Melt: very good, I recommend. Everything you want in a tuna melt - crunchy buttery bread and ooey gooey goodness inside. -Hashbrowns: a must, I recommend. It's more like a big latke. Crunchy and salty. Restaurant doesn't have ketchup, but it comes with tartar. -Caraway Caesar: flavorful, I recommend. The only thing was that the purple cabbage was bitter, but overall it was good.
Be the first to ReplyAll very tasty but PRIIIIIICEY for what it is.
We spent $160 for BREAKFAST, people. Nothing alcoholic, I assure you. 2 adults, 2 kids, so yes, we were strong-armed into getting both the ridiculously expensive but delicious $8 hot chocolate. Everything was very tasty but overpriced. Service was warm, friendly, but slow (they were busy, but we waited a solid 40 minutes after ordering for our food). Many of the dishes seemed like partial options. Sausage and eggs but you had to pay separately for toast. A biscuit with eggs but pay to add ham, and so on (served on a dinner roll plate, so it's hard to believe it was intended as a full meal). I really don't like to harp on pricing but when you end up spending that much for breakfast, it just feels like a lot for relatively ungenerously presented offerings (natural pairings requiring significant upcharging). They should take reservations for lunch/brunch. We were lucky to score some seats but it wasn't a gimme. Definitely will work to recreate some of the dishes at home but I'd be hard pressed to shell out that much for the same meal again in the future.
Be the first to ReplyA really lovely experience front to back.
The tuna melt was satisfying and the cabbage on the side was surprisingly fantastic, really fresh. The chicken liver mousse was very smooth and paired well with the accompanying cherry caramel. Overall, all of the menu items seem very thoughtfully considered with great flavor combinations. Great service - welcoming and kind without being overly friendly. As an aside, coffee cups and cutlery were very beautiful and satisfying to use; dining experience was just very pleasant in all aspects.
Be the first to ReplyBreakfast/lunch at Agi's is a must - the confit tuna
Breakfast/lunch at Agi's is a must - the confit tuna sandwich is delicious, and the little touches like that fennel slaw and the mustard with a kick really make it. The breakfast sandwich is great with or without the speck (and chili oil if you're feelin' spicy) - that biscuit is simply amazing! You may as well have some hashbrowns too and do not skip out on something from the pastry counter!! The coffee cake with prune has a great balance of flavors. Overall, a true gem, taking brunch-y things to the next level!
Be the first to ReplyThis place has been on my list forever.
It exceeded my best expectations. We loved the crepes and the latkes. Don't sleep on the Ferdinand buns either!
