The Bank Tavern Bristol Reviews from The Last Year
Unique, simple and smart
Had to give props for our new favourite spot!! We’ve stopped in for lunch dinner and now Sunday lunch! I don’t think we have ever made a booking but the gang have always helped us out. We’ve had virgin cocktail (she was pregnant) and house cocktails (I wasn’t) and they slap!! We’ve done small plates for a light lunch. But by far the most impressive of all the experience was Sunday lunch. Just go, please go and enjoy it for yourself.
Not a bar.
Disappointed with the welcome, considering we were part of a big group and wanted to watch the football. Was not made to feel welcome.
Sunday dinner remembrance Sunday
We had the beef and the vegetable lentil loaf on Sunday. We’ve tried to book previously but they’re that popular it’s hard to get in. We went in after remeberance Sunday for a drink and Olly managed to fit us in when we asked if there was any cancellations. Food was INSANE. Best Sunday dinner by far. Thanks Olly and the bar staff for a great experience!
Traditional Local Pub with a (deservedly) high Food reputation
My wife and myself are currently holidaying in Bristol staying at the delightful Berwick Lodge (see separate Review) and earlier today - together with 2 local friends - we lunched at the Bank Tavern in the Old part of the city. We were doing so after having seen a media report that there was a 3 year waiting list for the property’s Sunday Lunch and we were keen to find out more. With this in mind, I’m glad our Uber dropped us off almost at the door as it isn’t exactly the easiest of places to find! We arrived first and had a coffee pending our friends’ arrival. They duly joined us some 10 minutes later after we soon submitted our lunch order - 4 X Carrot & Coconut Soup and 4 X Venison Pie! Both dishes were absolutely delicious and not difficult to see why the Sunday Lunch is in such high demand!! All in all, well worth the visit and - if I’m extremely fortunate - one day I may even have the opportunity of sampling the Sunday Lunch!
One of the best roasts ever!
We had an excellent Sunday roast here yesterday afternoon! Stumbled across it accidentally and to our amazement, there was a table available for 6 of us to have lunch - they had literally that minute had a cancellation. Super friendly and accommodating staff. Nicely kept real ale with 5 to choose from. A must if in the area but book well in advance!
Best roast in Bristol!!
We booked this 3 years ago as there is a waiting list! Well let me tell you now, it was worth the wait! That was one of the best roast I’ve ever had!! I had the beef and it was cooked to perfection! My mum had the pork which was equally as delicious. They’re currently not taking bookings but if they were I would have booked in for my next one! The service was great, the whole team were so friendly. We will be back.
No idea why this gets good reviews
The midweek lunch menu was limited and the dishes we had were lousy value for money. One was chicken with cannellini beans in a tasteless sauce and kale - that is to say a single leaf of kale! And fried bread. Not a full meal at all and it cost 17 pounds. Another was pulled pork tortilla with cheddar. Maybe there was some cheddar in there. I couldn't really taste it. Black beans are cheap and yet I got only a very small cup of them. This dish wasn't massively overpriced but it was certainly underwhelming.
Easily lives up to the hype
This pub is a real hidden gem tucked away on a quiet street in Broadmead which just happens to do the most amazing food. We managed to get a table for Sunday lunch not easy given the waiting list. We were warmly greeted and shown to our table. Of the 4 starters we chose the salmon tart and sweetbreads which were really delicious. Main meat options were beef and pork and we all opted for the beef. When it arrived, it was worthy of a fine dining establishment just by looking at it and the flavours, wow! Big slices of rare roast beef, giant crisp Yorkshire puddings, great roasties and a great selection of juicy flavoursome veg and a dark rich gravy with extra on the side. Yummy . We squeezed in a couple of puds which were also delicious. Service throughout was very relaxed but efficient and there was a lovely atmosphere. The prices are reflected in the quality of cooking and produce which we felt was fair and appropriate for the high standard level. They easily live up to the hype but what is also great is they haven't let it go to their heads and nor have they tried to cash in. They obviously love doing what they do and it shows. A big thanks to Sam and his great team for making a memorable anniversary lunch. If you want top notch quality food in a proper unpretentious pub then this is the place for you. We will be back as soon as we can get a table again.
Best roast in Bristol
Still my favourite roast in bristol! Unbeaten flavours and service, and such good value for money too! Glad I booked up a few tables a few years ago.. although will be gutted when they run out next year!!
