Morimoto Maui Wailea Reviews from The Last Year
Had a server named Ryan.
Super attentive and took care of so many things above and beyond. Kid (2 y.o.) wasn't feeling well...brought some soda. Kid burned herself on a plate (which we were warned twice was hot) and he brought over little first aid gel and a finger sleeve. He wasn't rushing, was very patient, and did everything with a smile. He made good food recommendations and had good intuition when we needed something. Food was delicious and would definitely go back.
The food was extremely underwhelming.
The Toro tartar was super fishy, and the added sauces only served to mask the fishiness. The sea bass was dry and not at the expectation level of an iron chef restaurant. The Bi bim bap had flavor but was again hindered by very fishy protein. My son had the kids waygu...we asked for it medium rare and got well done with slightly medium rare for the middle piece. All in all, an extremely disappointing and pricey culinary experience. Chef Morimoto needs to head over to Maui for some quality control because right now, his restaurant is not worth the price.. Avoid.
Beautiful location and s view but that was about it.
Unfortunately the food did not live up-to the hype or the name. We had the A5 sushi - no taste whatsoever ever and did not come close to other A5s that we have tasted before. The tempura was fine- nothing special. I wouldn't waste your time or money.
We were staying at the Andaz and Morimoto was our first and
We were staying at the Andaz and Morimoto was our first and last dinner in the time we were there. Booked around 6 for sunset and it was wonderful. service was quick and servers were pleasant. Food was amazing and it had a surprisingly casual breezy vibe. Recommend the duck fried rice and sticky ribs!
Food was very good.
The service was abysmal. The atmosphere was nice, but the service was so bad, it was difficult to notice anything else. We took the recommended tasting menu which was $180 p/p. We had some modifications, and our server was very accommodating. A few kids dishes came out normally, but then the disaster began. Our first dish arrived at 7:20 (we sat down at 6:10). We were clearly annoyed (and starving), and requested to speak to a manager. I still dont know if a manager came to speak with us, but the next dish was brought out by someone who asked if we wanted to see a manager. We told him we are starving and waiting forever for food. The table was a mess since the kids were losing it for being there so long. We had to request someone clean the table twice. My dishes with the dietary restricting were given to my the other person at our table, while I ate his dish. When the food began flowing out, things got a bit better, until we're were left waiting again forever for one of the desert dishes (one came out timely, the other came out 15 minutes later. Honestly, with minor acknowledgement of our poor experience, we could have left feeling fine as something was clearly off there tonight. We sat down at 6:10 and got the check at 8:40pm, with two kids way past their bedtime. The worst part was that no one came to apologize, or acknowledged our awful experience. Not even after requesting to speak with a manager. My wife said at the end that we did not like the service, and still no one came to understand why or try to make it better. Not even a comped desert. I've worked for years in restaurant service and rarely complain. Tonight was something else....
My wife and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding
My wife and I recently celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary at Morimoto Maui, nestled within the beautiful Andaz Maui at Wailea. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that set the tone for an unforgettable evening. The sake flight was a highlight, allowing us to explore different flavors and textures. My wife particularly enjoyed the passion pau hana cocktail--a tropical delight. Our server, Ryan, deserves special mention. His attentive service made us feel like honored guests. He anticipated our needs, recommended dishes, and ensured our glasses were never empty. Morimoto Maui is more than a restaurant--it's an experience. Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, or any milestone, this culinary gem is the perfect choice. The combination of delectable food, ocean views, and impeccable service creates lasting memories. Definitely needs higher star rating.
We had dinner for four and we were really disappointed.
We had had dinner here last year. It was expensive as always, but it was very good. This year was not good. The service was terrible. The staff did not pick up dishes between orders. They expected us to use dirty plates that had sat for twenty minutes for another serving of ribs that we had ordered. The entrées all came out at a different time. The duck was very dry the calamari salad was overdressed. The dinner took forever as the food could not come out of the kitchen. The service staff was clearly untrained.
Largely what you expect from a "brand" experience.
Good for kids and families. My main disappointment was being asked if I wanted fresh wasabi on my nigiri for an up charge. I've never been at a high end sushi restaurant that didn't just use fresh wasabi and include it in the price so I found that odd but I could understand the value of choices. Then to my surprise they didn't put it on directly the sushi but served it on a side dish. At these prices, I'm expecting an expert sushi maker who will craft the perfect sushi with the right amount of wasabi - not DYI. This would be like asking if I wanted premium rice and then putting it on the side for me to put on my sushi for extra or on sashimi to make nigiri myself. Coursing was also off that night with the entrees arriving very late. The restaurant has a cool vibe but honestly wouldn't go out of your way. It's a fine hotel restaurant for guests.
We were anticipating an amazing experience here as Morimoto
We were anticipating an amazing experience here as Morimoto is THE Iron Chef. Summary: good food, bad timing for food. One of the dishes was the duck. We were told it was going to take 30 minutes to cook. No problem. It took about 45 minutes. No warning. No update. There were 4 of us. Two dishes came out together. The third dish came out about 5-10 minutes later. The last dish was sushi and it came out last, which was basically after the first two dishes were already eaten. We were trying to be understanding until we remembered that 2 of our side dishes never even made it to our table. We asked the waiter about the missing dishes. He didn't apologize. Just said he's going to check on it. We waited 20 minutes and were told it was coming out. Nope. All of us finished our dishes so there was no point in having these dizhes served. We cancelled them and were given a "my apology" apology versus comping or even the manager coming out to apologize properly. The front of the house definitely needs work. It's unfortunate that a great chef's restaurant tarnished what could've been the icing on the cake for our Hawaii experience.
Magical, the ambiance, food was just wow, SO FRESH,
Magical, the ambiance, food was just wow, SO FRESH, definitely wanna come back before we leave, fantastic service. Everyone was so lovely and made our night extra special. We couldn't be more satisfied and happy on our first night's meal and the heavenly weather. We got to walk by the beach after our delicious dinner. Didn't have time to take pics
