Cherry Circle Room Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Have enjoyed this place in the past.
After last night's experience will reconsider. Arrived on time for our reservation and were told they were running 20 minutes late on seating. Told to wait in hallway by the elevator or else "out there" with a vague wave of the hand. No place to sit "out there". We returned and sat at the bar. A man in an "in charge" suit came rushing over and said in a very belligerent voice that we couldn't sit there. We explained and he repeated, "you can't sit here." Only then did he offer an explanation: that the bar was understaffed and that if we sat there we wouldn't be served. We said that was fine and he repeated, "Just know that you won't get served." Message received and then after we were seated at the table, our pre-meal drinks weren't delivered until the entrees. I won't even go into detail on the ballet of the candles being switched out-- we lost count at six-- with staff stretching across the table between us to do the swap. We have previously enjoyed the food, the subdued atmosphere (last night's soundtrack was loud and discordant) and quietly competent service-- appropriate at this price point. In the past, it appears, too bad.
Food was amazing.
Service was great. I would take off a half star for the location if possible. It's hard to find.
Stunning space, mid service and breakfast
This space is incredible and full of history. It feels like stepping into a movie set. We asked the server about the history of the space and got some vague answers but wish she’d had the same insights to share as most staff in other parts of the hotel. Food was good not great, and our order wasn’t quite right (we received and we’re charged for more food than we asked for.) Note portions are huge - a side of bacon was 8 pieces!
We've been to this restaurant many times & have taken out
We've been to this restaurant many times & have taken out of town friends. I've also gone with friends. it's a classic. love the mussels- the sauce is amazing. Last night's experience was not the best. the service was a bit off/slow. Our first appetizer was not hot when it arrived at the table. Seconds later another app arrived at the correct hot temperature & we were ready to dig in as it took awhile to arrive. Our server then came to discuss entrees. The timing was off. The most disappointing was when we saw the wine charge on our receipt. it was 60% more than the wine we ordered. We had a long conversation with the som. We showed him a handful of wines in the $60-65 price point. When we asked our server about the $96 we were charged for the wine, her response was "that was the wine that was presented to the table". Unreal! Why wasn't the wine "that was presented" the bottle we discussed in the price point we discussed! I gave 3 stars but I don't plan to come back. What happened was not right & our server's response was not cool.
We stayed at the hotel here so we tried this place for
We stayed at the hotel here so we tried this place for breakfast. It was delicious! The waitress was nice and attentive. The eggs Benedict was really good and the PLT sandwich. I really liked the hash browns and the hollandaise. Everything was cooked perfectly. My only issue was the restaurant was really dark for breakfast. I think the style of the restaurant was more suited for dinner and hopefully we will be back one day to try it!
Make sure you all the way to the back.
Ambiance is wonderful although it's oddly very dark here you may need your phone's flashlight to read the menu. Drinks were wonderfully crafted. Food is phenomenal. Ribs had great flavor and the salad/slaw that came with it the flavors were so on point ! Great combinations The wild game burger was really good..once again spot on flavors. The fries were outstanding!!!! Will also add that the online menu needs to be updated went on 3-14 and the online menu listed a larger plate chicken option that our waiter told us is no longer available. But in spite of that slight disappointment everything else was fantastic. And extra to the bar..our drinks hit the spot ! Definitely a place i would highly recommend in Chicago.
Humdrum
It was meh. We really looked forward to it, we’d been a year earlier and had reason to anticipate a great meal. First the positives. Excellent slaw with the ribs, imaginative and light; steak was perfectly done, MR. The accompanying bordelaise was nondescript. And pretty much average across the board. The fries we fine, but we’d also had them at the Game room and in room dining and they were better! The steak was… just not tasty. I’ve had better at 1/2 dozen places off the top of my head, and for much less. Wine was good choice, a decent Serbian cab. I also had a mocktail, the Barnes, again imaginative take on a bloody. The staff were affable and attentive. We will be exploring other options on our next Chicago visit.
Lovely Anniversary dinner here at the Cherry Circle Room.
Made reservations in advance for two to this beautifully decorated, nostalgic bar. Instantly upon walking in the dark wood, unique lighting, and warm atmosphere is noticed. We were greeted immediately by the host and sat within seconds. The booths seem very intimate and not stuffy. The music and lighting make for a relaxing environment. Our server was friendly, attentive, and had impeccable timing with our drinks and decision making for our meal. We opted for Homemade Milk Bread, Thai Style Mussels, and Endive and Radicchio Caesar salad for starters. The milk bread was so delicious. Buttery and pillow soft. I loved the Thai Mussels. They were cooked perfectly and had the savory slightly sweet sauce that was so flavorful. The salad was a refreshing twist on a traditional Caesar. The Radicchio gave it a peppery crunch which I loved. For our entree decided on the Braised Lamb Shank and honestly it was one of the best lamb shanks I've had in a restaurant. The meat was melting off the bone and the vegetables were still bite tender which I loved. The portion was enough for two. We loved the wine selection as well. Overall, the entire feel and quality of this restaurant was impressive. It felt every bit of a fine dining restaurant without being pretentious.

I work in wine, and I always check out the wine lists of restaurants I visit especially on vacation. I stopped into the cherry circle room for breakfast while staying at the CAA and peeked at the spectacular bottle list, and decided to come back later to investigate further. Preston, the sommelier, was delightful and knowledgeable and gave fantastic and unforgettable service when I returned that night, and although we only had salad, wine, and dessert, it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in recent memory. I'd give six stars if I could.
One of my favorite restaurants in America.
From the exceptional service and hospitality to the gorgeous design and ambiance this is a dream location. Within moments of being here it becomes very clear why it has earned such accolades for some time now. I came to speak to you, and be it on an absolutely flawless waffle, followed by a variety of exceptional pastries. My colleague had a marvelous Benedict and everything down to the hot tea and drip coffee, could not have been executed any better. Bravo and thank you for being you.
Delicious food and some of the best service I've received
Delicious food and some of the best service I've received in a long time. Special thank you to Christiaan!
Christmas Dinner Disappointment - lovely service, great room
Christmas Dinner - hugely disappointing food. Probably the worst meal I’ve had in a long time. Service lovely and tbh we weren’t expecting the best, and even though the room is amazing food was way below par for $140 pp. Onion soup was the best bit, bread was stale (listed as artisan 🙄) - overcooked steak and lobster of which mine didn’t have any meat in the tail… covered with chip-sticks and served with a depressing baked potato all of which tasted and looked as though it had been sitting around for a while. Final bill of over €400 - we had a nice evening but wouldn’t recommend anyone eat there for Christmas. Should have stuck with Rosebud - at least the steak would have been freshly cooked. Should have known it wouldn’t be good as we weren’t even asked how we wanted our steak…
All hash browns are not created equally.
The Cherry Circle Room in Chicago is part of the historic Chicago Athletic Association. The breakfasts, especially the hash browns, a heavenly experience reminiscent of giant tater tots. The restaurant's reinvention beautifully blends its iconic history with modern design says the James Beard Awards in 2016. This spot won Outstanding Restaurant Design. Highly recommended breakfast. Open for Breakfast and Dinner Daily Sunday - Tuesday Dinner: 5p - 9p Wednesday - Saturday Dinner 5p - 11p Sat & Sunday Brunch 7a - 2p Weekday Breakfast 7a - 11a
Nice atmosphere, good food
The food was very good and the restaurant was decorated tastefully for the holidays. We enjoyed all of our dishes. Service was ok orders taken and food served (by food runners) in good time but the waitress struggled with getting drinks and refills in between despite the restaurant not being full. One note for anyone seeking a meal here-check on reservations no matter what time of day it is. This hotel runs lots of events throughout the week so that even if the hotel is not full, there may not be tables available for your meal.
Amazing service by JJ ..!!
The room is so Charming and Cosy. The Service by JJ was professional and so friendly He is definitely a great asset for your restaurant . The food was so fresh and tasty. The juicy burger was amazing, the sea bass lightly crisp was delicious and the truffle pasta was perfect. The wine list offers a large selection of international and California wines at a very good price The cocktails are very sophisticated using some fine craft spirits. Do not mis the old fashion bourbon option. Do not miss the dessert, a warm lava cake with delicious chocolate and a vanilla scoop with butterscotch caramel.. divine. Because this place is very popular …do not hesitate to book in advance. A Gem ❤️
Good food, excellent service and a great atmosphere
We went with friends and were all very impressed with the service. The food was good. I especially enjoyed the pasta and American Beauty cocktail. Our friend said the burger had a sauce on it that made it a little soggy but that the flavor was good. My husband said his filet mignon was fine. We enjoyed the experience although it is pricey. The restaurant itself is a little hard to find inside the Athletic club.
