I have a good experience with The Bazaar By Jose Andres DC.
Food was good, server super nice and knowledgeable, décor is warm and welcoming. Love this place
Be the first to ReplyWe had the lunch tasting menu.
We did NOT have the mussels, Waldorf Salad, or the Pisto Manchego. See attached menu. The food was excellent, IMHO. We gobbled down everything and wished for more of most dishes. For dessert, we should have ordered 2 Key Lime pies instead of 1custard and 1 pie because neither of us are fond of custard. That's on us not them. The service was flawless from one course to the next one. Everyone was on point and we appreciate it. (Kudos to our server William and the team). To drink, I had 2 very delicious Sangria de Cava and my mate a beer (Estrella Damm). Our lunch bill with tax was about $175. There's lots of eye candy for your entertainment. There is the decor; sensory overload. People watching (the sashaying back & forth in the adjacent lobby area) and ease dropping on other table conversations. So there was plenty to do while waiting for the food. Shuck, it felt pre-COVID like. We paid for out-front valet parking, to much but it is DC and the day was a scorcher. Bring some cash for that. We paid $40 on a Friday.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent tapas in the Waldorf Astoria.
Definitely get the coconut rice, beef cheeks, and Spanish octopus. Every dish was beautifully presented with the perfect blend of textures and flavors. The patio seating looking out on the lobby is great as well. Definitely worth a visit!
Be the first to ReplyAwesome experience!!! Les the server did a fantastic job
Awesome experience!!! Les the server did a fantastic job and helped us feel super comfortable. My friends and I got a huge variety and most everything was fabulous. Some of our favorites were the steak & piquillo, crab fritters, Philly cheesesteak, jamon, cafecito, bao, and patatas. They were great with my friends nut allergy and it's truly beautiful inside. Definitely pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for!

I have to move The Bazaar up to my top 5 favorite fine dinning restaurant in DC, Our server Nick was very knowledgeable of the menu, the food was amazing, my favorite our. 1. WAGYU PHILLY CHEESESTEAK. 2. BAO CON LECHON. 3. PATATAS BRAVAS. Please don't leave with trying one of there dessert, exspecially the POLVORON!
Be the first to ReplyThe place was bright and fun.
Our server was lovely. The drinks were delish. The food was beautifully plated and very salty. Every single dish. Not sure it was worth the amount of money we spent...
Be the first to ReplyIt's important to me that the quality and value of the food
It's important to me that the quality and value of the food match the price. I was a bit disappointed on that front here. Pros: absolutely beautiful atmosphere, service was great, presentation of the dishes were very unique. Cons: portion sizes are small compared to the price, and generally I found the dishes wanting in taste. That said, I did really enjoy the mini lobster roll and the patatas bravas. Regarding the portion sizes comment, please note this is a tapas style place so small dishes were expected but the quantity/quality for the price was somewhat disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyVery poor customer service.
I simply asked for a copy of a receipt for a nearly $700 dinner and was completely ignored. This place does not deserve your money!
Be the first to ReplyWe've eaten at several Jose Andres restaurants here in DC
We've eaten at several Jose Andres restaurants here in DC and enjoyed them all. Only wish we could say the same for The Bazaar. Bazaar is by and large a hotel restaurant, albeit in a luxury hotel. The atmosphere was loud and pretentious. We booked an early dinner for our wedding anniversary-- indicating the special occasion on the reservation system. Upon arrival the restaurant was completely empty-- no kidding, completely. Even with the special occasion noted, the hostess tried twice to seat us in completely unacceptable seats. One by a service area and the second in a tight squeeze adjacent to the bar pick-up area. We've become accustomed to restaurants trying to stuff tables for two wherever they can be fit, but didn't expect this within such a fine dining establishment. We watched from afar as couple after couple arrived to also reject these same tables-- again with a largely empty restaurant. Food was underwhelming in general and especially in comparison to other Jose restaurants. The highlight was the brussel sprouts. The lemon pith purée is a very unique take on a popular vegetable dish. The Rossejat Negra was average. But the most disappointing was the Jamon Iberico de Bellota. I love cured meats--- and because of the occasion splurged. The table side server seemed either incredibly inexperienced or just disinterested. Again, at $45 oz. each slice should balance meat with fat. Unfortunately after watching him cut ounces of fat with not a hint of meat, I had to guide him to produce a serving that could be edible. The good-- Our (main) server. She made the evening enjoyable. She was attentive and engaging. I would recommend all other Jose Andres restaurant in DC but suggest avoiding Bazaar. If you want the experience, maybe get a drink at the bar and a small appetizer.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite part of staying at the Waldorf Astoria was
My favorite part of staying at the Waldorf Astoria was eating dinner at this restaurant! The ambiance was dark, upscale & glamorous. Our server was amazing & provided a ton of information about everything we had which I appreciated. I'm so thankful I was able to get a last minute reservation with my capitalone card! Since I booked through their website, we each got a complimentary glass of Cava & Sweet Chips to start - what a welcome! We also had these items: CAVIAR CONE - wish I had 10 more because I LOVE Ossetra caviar CRAB LOUIE CONE - amazing how packed with flavor & how fresh the crab was in this little cone NITRO CAIPIRINHA - got a table side show & it was the perfect sorbet-like palate cleanser & cocktail in one! BAO CON LECHON - best Chinese pork belly bun I've ever had OYSTER PO-BOY - oysters & caviar are my kinda food SIMPLE TOMATO SALAD - my tastebuds didn't think this dish was simple whatsoever! NEPTUNE'S PILLOWS - just wow! Spicy tuna inside & tuna sashimi on top with a crispy pillow in between was truly incredible. One of my favorites of the night! ORA KING "EN PAPILLOTE" - the bag this dish is steamed in is cut tableside & topped with a crunchy quinoa that makes for an awesome dish full of different textures! CARROT CAKE - deconstructed & so perfectly done without being overly sweet! Everything was so inventive & done with outstanding cooking techniques. It's no wonder Jose Andres is a Michelin starred chef with so many restaurants worldwide! It was a splurge, but it's so worth the experience & I would definitely go back!
Be the first to ReplyWent for lunch.
Very creative and tasty! Had the smash burger, endive salad, Brussels sprouts, a ham and cheese croquette and key lime pie. I'm usually a very fast eater but I had to eat slowly and savor every bite. The flavors and textures were quite a delightful dining experience. The hamburger and croquettes were delicious
Be the first to ReplyJust beautiful! The service was amazing.
The waiter was fun and friendly. Always served with a smile. From pulling up to the hotel to leaving everything was phenomenal. From Restaurant staff to the hotel staff everyone was amazing. I will definitely be going back for dinner next time I visit Washington DC though for dinner this time because during this visit I went for lunch.
Be the first to ReplyI was SO excited to dine here.
I did the hard sell, over months, to my parents - to get them to ok dining here. I'd been to Bazaar Meat in Vegas. Different. But also many similar dishes. That Vegas meal was one of the best I ever had! So I was selling Bazaar DC pretty hard. We arrived early for my bday reservation. Perfect, no problem, we'll sit at the bar. And we had a lovely time at the bar! The salt air margarita is to die for. Literally. I first discovered it back when the Cosmo in Vegas opened when I dined at China Poblano. It's exquisite! It's so simple, yet also complex. It tastes like drinking a fancy margarita while floating in the ocean. Absolutely divine! Dangerously delicious. You won't even realize how any you've had. Best cocktail ever, IMHO. So eventually the hostess comes over to find us and seats us. It was significantly past our reservation time, which was for the time they opened. But all ok as we were perfectly content at the bar. Truly, not complaining about that. But a note for those thinking they'll be seated right away. Jose Andres is that chef who delivers EVERY TIME. Kudos to his entire team here. They were all incredible. No dish was anything less than perfect. So why just 3 stars? Oof. While our server was so lovely and friendly - we were oversold. "Ok, so I'd recommend at least three more dishes." It was that kind of service. Hint: We did not need more dishes. We felt pushed to order more. We felt shamed when we said "We'll share." We even got told, "That's not something you can share." Hint: You CAN share those things. They may not recommend you cut whatever menu item in half, but you can. And it's still so good! There were many things we wanted to order just two of and told we couldn't. Well, "couldn't" meant not recommended. Not that they actually couldn't. And yeah, spoiler, you can cut all those items in half and they're just as delicious. (We ordered just one of an item and easily divided it into four, despite our server telling us it wasn't possible.) Atmosphere and ambiance is outstanding. Really beautiful and unique. Just watch out for a server trying to make you order more than you want. (This especially irritated me as I'd had a couple of the same menu items in Vegas and encountered zero issues with sharing.) In sum, it's delicious! It's also expensive. (Which, if you're coming here, you know.) Don't let the staff force you to order more than you want. And if they say you can't share it, you can ignore them.
Be the first to ReplyWe have no issue with the food, we very much enjoy the
We have no issue with the food, we very much enjoy the adventure of getting to try many dishes by ordering small plates. Their pacing was perfect since they suggested we order a few dishes at a time and generally the waiters were knowledgable, cheery and helpful. Our disappointment lies entirely with the fact that we were seated in the bar area despite having reservations made weeks in advance. We arrived on time, dressed up and excited to celebrate my husband's birthday, noted in the reservation. It seems to me the restaurant should ask the diner if they are offering bar area seating rather than within the main restaurant. But we were sat in the main atrium at a table set for 4 (we were a party of 2.) We didn't even realize this was the bar area right away but felt disassociated from the whole experience. When we asked the manager what was upstairs and then why we were sat downstairs in the bar area he did not offer any explanation other than it was the discretion of the hostesses. Perhaps they were trying to give the bar area waiters some business?? Regardless, it left us feeling awkward and not a place to celebrate. We will not return despite the food experience being right up our alley. We will save our money for other ways to support Jose Andres and his mission.
Be the first to ReplyWithout a doubt, Bazaar is one of the most-romantic special
Without a doubt, Bazaar is one of the most-romantic special occasion spots in DC. The elegant but understated architecture, the muted lighting, the persuasive but not overwhelming beat of the music, not to mention the attentive personal service, all make it so. But in some ways, the restaurant is a flawed concept. It attempts to offer "elevated tapas," that is somewhere between Jaleo and Minibar - Jose Andres' other outstanding restaurants. But the offerings at Jaleo are already wonderful, and the incremental upgrades here are not worth the elevated prices. On the other hand, Minibar for the masses just doesn't work. Trying to churn out the exquisite Minibar creations for a full dining room was always bound to fail, and I don't recommend them even if they are more accessible here. Rather save up for the real thing (currently $325 per person) or just have fun at Jaleo. Having said that, we did enjoy the cosseted pampering at Bazaar, and perhaps it is worth that special feeling. Just know that that is really what you are paying for.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife selected The Bazaar for our Valentine's Day dinner
My wife selected The Bazaar for our Valentine's Day dinner because we love Jose Andres and everything he stands for. That aside, this was possibly the BEST meal we've had in YEARS! And given how often we go out to eat, that says a lot! We started with the Crab Louie cones--- SOOOO good! 2 for $12 would have been more reasonable, but it's the Waldorf Astoria so (shrug). The crab "salad" in the shell was ridiculously good, as was the beef tartare! But the "live" scallops were out of this world!!!!! My GOD!!! We also had the Neptune's pillows, which were delish! The stuffed peppers, potatoes Pau Gasol, and oxtail croquettes were decent..but we wouldn't order them again, just bc there are far more delicious items on the menu. I think the drink menu needs rethinking so it matches the caliber of the food. We had the milk punch (meh), the cacacha sorbet (yum), and an Old Fashioned (I've had better). But that's fine. We went for food, not drinks, and we were blown away by the offerings! We will DEFINITELY be back! Thanks so much Erin and Les!! You were fantastic!!
Be the first to ReplyPurchased the tasting menu.
Big fan of Jose Andre's' other restaurants, but this was objectively bad. One of every five dishes was edible, the rest were awful. Not sure how you can ruin a perfectly good oyster but their mignonette foam managed to do so impressively well. I rarely leave bad reviews even for mediocre restaurants - but this was the worst meal I've had in 12 months, and the worst~ $1,000 meal I've had in decades.
Be the first to ReplyVery delicious and excellent service.
This was one of the best deals we got for restaurant week. Located inside the hotel which is absolutely beautiful.
Be the first to ReplyGood for the most part was very good .
Service was impeccable. Would avoid the octopus at all costs which is disappointing because I always enjoy the octopus at José Andres restaurants. This one was truly awful. Chewy and tasted like a hash brown. Really not the best of Jose at all.

Gorgeous new restaurant located inside of the Waldorf Astoria. Washington DC! Parking is valet only, perfect for a date night or a special occasion! Service is wonderful and very welcoming. Their ham is fantastic, their drinks are delicious too. Great spot for drinks or dinner in the area!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I had a pretty disappointing date night at
My husband and I had a pretty disappointing date night at the Bazaar. We were excited to try it out, considering the hype and Jose Andres' history in DC. We ordered a cocktail from our waiter when we sat down at our table. It arrived about 40 minutes later during which time we heard nothing from our waiter. When we were finally able to order food, we asked for some recommendations, considering the menu is pretty large and all tapas style. The waiter seemed caught off guard and recommended "Neptune's Pillows" (which to be fair, were tasty). At this kind of place I would expect to be walked through the menu to ensure we're getting a good variety of items that complement each other. Whatever, not a big deal. Half of the items we wanted to order were unavailable - something our waiter neglected to tell us when we sat down. The food came out as it was ready, but our waiter clearly forgot about one of our items - a very bland take on a Cesar salad that came out about 30 minutes after everything else. The food was fine, but not what I'd expect at this price point. The $10/piece bao bun was more of a slider, served on a dry hamburger bun, but the pork belly was cooked well. The crab croquettes were good but lacking in complexity. The Neptune's Pillows were nice, but very mayo heavy. The patatas bravas were unremarkable. We would have ordered more but weren't feeling like it was worth the wait or the price, so we left early and hungry. They could tell were weren't too happy with our meal so they comped our drinks, which was nice. Maybe after a few months the service will improve and they'll refine the menu, but I can't see myself coming back again. Overall it felt more Las Vegas-celebrity chef, glitz and glamor but lacking in substance. Probably a fun place for tourists looking for fancy small bites but there are plenty of other really amazing restaurants in DC I'd try first.
Be the first to ReplyThe service at Bazaar DC is good.
Everyone- maitre d, waitstaff, and the food and beverage manager were warm and welcoming. The ambiance is relaxing and even romantic depending on where you're sitting. Where the concept falls short for me is the menu options. I wanted Bazaar to offer exciting new choices rather than a regurgitation of the old. With millions of tapas options in Spain, I think they could have tried harder.
Be the first to ReplyThe Bazaar was amazing!!!! My friend loves José Andrés so
The Bazaar was amazing!!!! My friend loves José Andrés so it was a must. Travis took great care of us. The ambiance was sexy-- dimmed lights, closely seated, the view of the chandelier. The Bazaar is an experience. Depending on your drink/food order, it comes with a show. I will say that nothing came as one would imagine. The flavors are there, but the presentation is a twist. We ordered a good amount of food. I did not have any room for dessert, but this just means we have to go back!I enjoyed most of the food we got. I left comments next to items that stood out. Dragon fruit ceviche (This is my absolute favorite! It is so fresh. I ordered a second one.)"The classic" beef tartare (This came in 2nd for me. I love that they mix it at the table. You can also have them make it spicy if you like.) Jose's taco (I really enjoyed this spin on a taco. My 3rd favorite.)California funnel cake "Philly cheesesteak"Jose's favorite Waldorf saladShe-crab soup (This was too salty for me. I had to send it back.)Truffle rabbit roulade (My friend liked it. I was not bold enough to try it.)Cotton candy foie Gras Jamon iberico Ferran Adria modern olivesNeptunes pillows Salt air margaritas, magic mojito, continental sour (Loved every drink. The mojito comes with a show.)
Be the first to ReplyWe just ate at The Bazaar and it was fabulous.
The ambiance is beautiful, the food was unique and delicious , the food presentation was incredible, and the service was impeccable. Our waiters, Luis and Brian, were attentive, provided detailed recommendations, and made the whole experience feel special. We love Jose and will definitely be coming back with friends and family.
