I wish I could give 2.
5 stars but there were a few things that were good about this spot - the host was kind enough to accommodate our party of 8 very quickly on a nice Saturday afternoon. The cocktails were also delicious and there was great variety, I got the hibiscus margarita but definitely think the others were better. The chips they had were AMAZING and the guacamole paired so well with it. The entrees however and service that followed was not great. We ordered enchiladas, chilaquiles and the Benedict. This took almost an hour to come out and when it was served to us, the server gave us enchiladas stating they were chilaquiles and that we had ordered in fact the enchiladas. It continued to get messed up and after a few minutes the server who took our order came to apologize. Even then the food quality wasn't anything special and the prices were rather expensive.

I highly recommend this restaurant, the food it's beyond amazing and I fell in love with the place it's small, cozy you feel at home, it's very clean and staff are very welcoming and attentive, I came here in January for my birthday with a friend and we had a pleasant time and we enjoyed every bite of the food we ordered

Long overdue review, a classic place for great Mexican food, opinion from a Mexican gal. Didn't have a wait this Sunday afternoon so that was even better. Nomz: Had the chilaquiles and added steak. Pro tip: ordered the eggs scrambled and mixed in and damn every bit was packed with flavor, spice and deliciousness. It was the perfect amount of saucy and the steak was delicious - although pricey I was pretty full for most of the day. Drinks: Had the strawberry margarita, came with house made Tajín on the rim and chunky pieces of strawberry in the drink, good flavor. Service: We had some miscommunications on the order but they were able to remedy. Ambiance: Cute, cozy, cool with outdoor seating available. Nope or Dope: Dope, it's hard to find good authentic classic Mexican food in Manhattan and this is one of the ones that keeps giving!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service, food with flavor and tasty drinks.
I love Barrio Chino and am so glad it has survived the pandemic. It's a cozy spot in LES, very warm and inviting. The service is wonderful. Personable and accommodating. I love their drinks. They have a nice happy hour M-Th, from 4 to 6pm. I ordered the tamarind margarita with mezcal. DIVINE!!! Food is tasty and so well flavored. I highly recommend and can't wait to come back!!!

Great food from such a small spot! We started with drinks - two of us got the hibiscus margarita which was so damn good! The guacamole is also a great appetizer option as it comes with chips and salsa too. For our entrees, we went with the Ensalada Cesar de Tijuana, Enchiladas de Mole (contains peanuts), and the Camarones Borrachos. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals! I only gave it four stars because I really wanted to try the Tuna Tostada and they ran out on the day we visited.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently good tacos, reasonable prices, fantastic margs.
And if you get here before noon on a Sunday, it's a great place to beat the brunch crowd. Service is always laid back, but on top of it. My go to on the LES when I want great, but easy. This time I had the cauliflower tacos, light but spicy! Please see all my other reviews for this awesome spot.

I frequent this place for their fantastic margaritas with a ton of house made flavors to try. While the food is a bit pricey, I often just order a small bite or guacamole. It's a cozy spot, perfect for a date or a relaxed time at the bar with a friend. The servers are nice and drinks come fast.
Be the first to ReplyI found myself at Barrio Chino for my work holiday dinner.
As the resident Yelp Elite in my department, I was asked to find a place for us to celebrate the season - my only limitations being that it wasn't Italian (since we had that last year), and it wasn't a place I had been to before. Taking those factors into consideration and the fact that we were a party of 10, I did some exploring and found BC. The menu, good reviews, and the fact that they could accommodate our party size sold it for me - so off we went. Located in the Lower East Side, Barrio Chino primarily serves up Mexican fare. Like many restaurants in the area, it's not large - the bar in the back serves as a focal point with a few tables scattered throughout the space. We were seated at a long high top table in the middle of the dining room which I figure allows them to easily take reservations for large groups. The aesthetics are super casual - exposed brick, worn accents, and casual music playing in the background. The menu has a good selection of apps, tacos, soups, salads, entrees, and drinks. We decided to start with drinks - I had one of their tequila-based craft cocktails which was quite good, strong but tasty. For round 2 I had a watermelon margarita which was tasty as well. For food, we started with some apps to share - chips with salsa and guac, tuna tartare, cauliflower tacos, and two types of quesadillas - cheese and chorizo. Everything was tasty - the real standout for me was the chips as they were kinda thick and really crispy mmmm. For my main I decided on the enchiladas mole which were stuffed with shredded chicken, queso fresco, crema Mexicana, onions, and lettuce. I thought it was really good - I could tell the ingredients were fresh and it had great flavor. The dish was a little sauce heavy, but I didn't mind too much since it had great flavor. Black beans were served on the side but they were atypical in the fact that they were pureed - an interesting take, not sure how I felt about that but I ate them so there's that. Service was great - everyone was super friendly, the food came out at a good pace (and each course all at once which I appreciated), and overall I really felt we were taken care of. I had a great first experience at Barrio Chino, and would definitely return for another meal.

It's a great place, great atmosphere and definitely a twist to traditional Mexican food in many ways. This time around I ordered the tortilla soup and it was a delight of different flavors, and in a way I had never tasted before. The texture was more like a cream, with a dark color, and smoky flavor. The margaritas were good and strong. Our server was extremely kind, and I appreciate that they are constantly taking plates away since the tables are very small. There was one instance in which they took my corn away before I finish eating, but it's okay I understand it looked like done and the server just grabbed the plate and left without asking. I laughed about it. If you are in the area, definitely stop by! Beware It gets quite noisy since it's a very small space.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good but pricey for the portion side.
We mainly drank and had a few bites to share. Atmosphere is nice and place is always jam pscked. Worth trying but not itching to go back immediately. Solid vibes overall, and drinks were also bettrr than average.

Overall this place is solid and the three times I have been I've never been disappointed. The staff is so nice and attentive, and the restaurant is really aesthetically pleasing. It's especially nice in the warmer months when they open all the windows. It's open but still feels comfortable and intimate. The vibe gets a 10/10 from me. For me the food is good but not spectacular, and sadly I think the price point is a little bit high. But overall it's a good choice especially for brunch or a later dinner and I do keep coming back. No complaints and would recommend.
Be the first to ReplyService was okay had to wait long.
. the place is too loud. Drinks were not worth the price! Had chicken and fish tacos both were meh to me .. the food was not flavourful
Be the first to ReplyIt actually hurts me to see so many great reviews for
It actually hurts me to see so many great reviews for Barrio Chino. Perhaps things have changed over the years, but I found this place to be incredibly mid and their prices to be unbearable. I came on a Tuesday night and it was moderately busy, but we didn't need a reservation. We were seated at a high top table which I never really like when you have to share it with multiple parties. The waitress here was incredibly nice, I wish I remembered her name!I got a spicy watermelon margarita which tasted fine. It wasn't groundbreaking but was up to the standard I'd expect. I also left fairly tipsy off one drink so they are generous in that sense! Unfortunately, my margarita and 2 tacos were the same price. $8 per taco !!!! These are not full tacos, they are not big, they are incredibly normal in size. I have been ruminating over this for two weeks since I visited. How can a taco be $8 USD? On top of that, how does it taste so incredibly below average? There are a plethora of incredible taco spots in NYC. I simply could not in good faith recommend this to a friend or family member visiting. Maybe I'm just not in the right tax bracket to enjoy it, but I'd rather go to a cheaper place with better quality even if the lighting isn't as vibey, every single time.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome taco spot tucked away in a small, light filled
Awesome taco spot tucked away in a small, light filled space on the lower east side. They have several types of tacos. You should know: the tacos are small, you can buy them in sets of two or three, and you cannot mix and match. They have cauliflower, pollo, Al pastor, lamb, steak, pescado, and more. I had the pescado, which was great. I highly recommend using the sauces they provide. The margaritas and mezcal drinks were the winner here. I'm not usually a fan of fruit based margaritas, but the strawberry and grapefruit margarita were amazing! Everything made with fresh fruit (I watched the bartender cut and muddle it myself). The cucumber mezcal was also out of this world. Service was awesome. They also have a few other basic Mexican dishes. Can't wait to get back for some more margs!

So, we arrived for brunch on a Saturday just as we had 67 times before (we live in the neighborhood, and this has always been one of our favorites). Unfortunately, things went south from the moment we sat down. We sat outside and asked for the heat lamps to be turned on. Did not happen for 20 minutes until the next group sat outside and made the same request. It took more than 20 minutes more to get our first drink (great margaritas here always, but what was going on??). Our server routinely disappeared for 20 minutes at a time. Then when our starter salad came, our drinks were long empty and we finished that course without a new round. Almost two hours later, our entrees showed up - but only after I went into the restaurant to try to find them. My wife's chile relleno was fine. My enchiladas verdes were, however, a disgrace - and this has always been my favorite dish here! Completely cold, no cheese whatsoever, one "chicken" enchilada was completely empty, everything was coated in a gross verde sauce nothing like what I have had many times before, no black beans. When we wanted to leave, we had to ask for our check 3 times, and even then the server was reluctant to give it to us. On the positive side, she offered us churros and a shot as compensation, but we just wanted to leave at that point, we had had enough. Somehow, half of orders were taken by the wife of the owner or bartender (not sure which), who left her own brunch table to try to help out, but unfortunately bailed before our own brunch was over. Not sure what is going on - new management? no real chef in the kitchen? no experienced servers? not enough help at the bar? I understand the problems restaurants have with staffing, but when it takes 30 minutes between drink orders, when I have to go inside to find our food, when the food is truly horrible and a shadow of what it used to be, it is no longer fun. It's going to be a long time before we come back.
Be the first to ReplyMy go to spot for decades.
Well kept secret. Sincronizadas and margaritas. The vibe is very sexy and well lit with candles. The service is like a neighborhood hangout.

Killing food, prime time music and the bar tenders are old school. A dope spot!

Tables inside are very close to each other so there's not much privacy. We had this lady at the bar in our convo most of the night. Only had the steak tacos they were alright. Churros we're cool. Waitress included her gratuity on the bill, there were only 2 of us. *I was a waitress 10yrs ago in my early 20's so I always tip generously but that was rude. I left only what she gave herself.

Food Was really really delicious drinks were on point, we ordered margaritas quesadillas, tacos and steak really really fresh and tasty. service was amazing, the bartender was super nice and cool. very recommended
Be the first to ReplyVery cool concept but ultimately the execution was lacking.
I had chicken enchiladas, good but chicken was kinda dry and dish overall under seasoned. It was a basic dish that you could find anywhere, I've had much better versions. My friend had a carnitas special, it tasted really gamey and was very greasy. Overall, we decided it was not worth a second visit, especially considering the area. The drinks were really good but expensive. The host/waiter had a really cheap club promoter vibe with an outfit from 2010. Most Mexican cuisine in New York tries really hard to standout but is underwhelming at best. This place is the epitome of that, avoid and enjoy the many options the LES has to offer.
Be the first to ReplyGood taco, well balanced flavor.
We booked for 6 people but we were given the table for 4 people. Given in nyc, it wasn't surprising however it wasn't busy and there were extra space that could be offered so I wish the host suggested something else to accommodate.
